Yes, and? If 50% of us are sick or dying at the same time, it won't matter what condition the economy is in.

    I'm not a leftwinger. Get a clue.

The very thing you don't want to happen is going to take place as a result of the lame Trump/Republican response to the pandemic. This will be like the 1930s all over again if you destroy the economy and then kill a lot of people at the same time.

A lot of the people who were cut loose by their employer also lost their health insurance. By not supporting business, especially small business, you're creating a public who will almost certainly opt for universal health care, and some form of job guarantee. The way frontline retail workers had to keep working without PPE shows how badly workers are treated in this country.

Instead of spending enough to support shut down businesses to keep their employees for when it comes time to reopen, then open up fully if we get a cure or vaccine, we're creating mass unemployment.
A lot of people have died already. We could have suppressed the virus as they have in other countries--South Korea, China, Canada, Australian, New Zealand, Taiwan.

Remember folks, the science and facts have changed as follows since the now known early date this virus began in the U.S.:

    1. Unknowns about COVID19 ("virus") have been resolved. Outbreak incidence affecting huge amounts of the U.S. is known. Grossly inaccurate initial models have changed. Grossly inaccurate initial estimates of when the virus actually began spreading in the U.S. are known and changed. Grossly inaccurate mortality, comorbidity data, infectiousness data have changed. Testing is far greater now in places like Iceland, California, other areas of the country and world. Needs for medical equipment, supplies, beds, are now known and were wildly overestimated. The whole purpose of the bureaucratic, unscientific "flattening the curve" was so that supplies, beds and equipment would not run out. They have not run out, quite the opposite. I just saw two tents in the three hospitals in my city of 3 medium hospitals dismantled today. Finally, we have reliable drugs, cheap, readily available ones, that we didn't have two months ago.

    2. OTOH, what is -not- known, is the scientific data behind draconian measures such as lockdowns, social distancing, mandatory masks. Comparing graphs of different areas doesn't cut it, those are rough correlations only, not remotely conclusive or even convincing. Even ridiculous, corrupt WHO has drastically CHANGED over to the Swedish "no lockdown" response just this week https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...-for-coronavirus-response-resisting-shutdowns

    3. CDC policies that have allowed a few "motivated" jurisdictions in the U.S. to overcount virus while other jurisdictions having far lower flu-like results, the other 46 states for instance, are ignored. I've posted them numerous times, not posting them again here for the fear-peddlers. We've all seen them already and fear merchants just slide on by without dealing with them. So how are 46 U.S. states suffering from ~25k deaths from corona while only the four corruptly governing states are claiming tens of thousands of cases? SOMEONE IS NOT COUNTING CORRECTLY... up to readers to decide whether it's 4 states or the other 46. I know what I believe. I've seen the Sopranos and lived in NYC for several years.

    4. So the fear-merchants in media, bureaucrats, forums like this have some SPLAINING TO DO. With -0- reliable science supporting draconian measures, and with so much emergent in unknowns two months ago that are now KNOWN, the burden of proof for ruining economies and the MASSIVE non-viral deaths that WILL follow has shifted drastically. As stated in another thread, there is now a pea on one side of the balancing test and a singularity on the other side. It's time for this politically motivated UNSCIENTIFIC SHAM to END... in most U.S. states and more to follow. Let them lock up NY, NJ. Conn, Mass, all the usual graft suspects forever if they want. Trying to make some one size fits all case for the other states? Well it's no longer just a difference of opinion, it's outright FELONIOUS.

So for anyone who wants to see the Real Clear Politics data all in one place and form their own opinions as to what is going on here in the U.S., here it is again. Make up your own minds:

Carefully, because BC is in North America. Americans driving to Alaska want to drive through BC. They get their farm workers from Mexico. There are Canadians working in the United States, and Americans working in Canada. Truckers, trains, planes ... a lot of trade is still going back and forth across the border. It's difficult to prevent cases coming in from the U.S.

So now BC is Sweden opening and relying on herd immunity.

They have closed the border for everyone but truckers, pilots, train crews, and people working in critical positions--there are, for example, some 300 medical staff working in Detroit and living in Canada. Farm workers from Mexico are allowed in, too.

It's not easy to disconnect the very integrated economies of Mexico, Canada, and the U.S.

QUESTION: Do lockdowns prevent/slow the spread of Covid19?

    Let's see.....

Nearly 900 employees, or 40% of workers, at Tyson pork plant in Indiana test positive for COVID-19 and more than 120 cases are confirmed at Missouri's Triumph Foods beef factory as outbreaks stoke fears of meat shortages.

ANSWER: If we were to assume that said workers were non-essential, then the answer is, Yes!

You want it to spread in those who are very young and healthy to achieve herd immunity. You do not want it to spread into the elderly nursing homes or to those with serious preconditions.

How many of those 900 have been hospitalized ??

TODAY, the total number of Covid19 deaths will mostly likely equate to 2017-2018 estimated Common Flu deaths, WITHOUT vaccination.

Now, in an effort to prove a point, I often calculate a MINIMUM, and the main reason; To considerably reduce the "Yeah, but" responses.

    Let's begin.....

    1. 2017-2018 estimated Common Flu deaths WITHOUT vaccination

    VERSUS

    2. Trump's "HAD WE DONE NOTHING" Model, thus, maximum 2.2 million Covid19 deaths, minimum to prove a point; 550,000 deaths, 1/4th .

Also, to further reduce the "Yeah, but" responses, and considering the fact we had nearly 60,000 deaths within the last two months, my minimum calculator, (my head), extends 550,000 deaths over 90 days.

In addition, prior to Covid19, U.S. had approx. 22 ICU's with ventilators per 100,000 pop, and to furthermore reduce the "Yeah, but" responses, let's assume 25 ICU's with ventilators per 100,000 pop.

Last, according to several sources, a patient with COVID-19 will spend an average of 11 to 21 days on a ventilator, thus, in an effort to eliminate the remaining "Yeah, but" responses, let' assume an average of 8 days.

    So, what's the BIG QUESTION?

Would have 550,000 Covid19 deaths over 3 months collapsed our health care system?

    YES or NO, and why?

Attention common flu analogists, I'm giving you 1 hour to formulate a response.

No credible scientific evidence supports the efficacy of lockdowns. None. But do keep presenting shaky, anecdotal correlations as convincing or even informative. It's funny. It's no wonder you lot are such dupes for climate change scams, or any other "I LOVE SCIENCE!" unscience that fits your politics.

Not too sure, however, the healthy/skinny will most likely recover in their homes.

    1. Enabled by loosey goosey corrupt CDC counting directives, those deaths are wildly exaggerated/miscounted in "Sopranos" governed graft and corruption U.S. Blue cities in states including NY, NJ, Conn, Ill, Mass, Mi. While in the other 45 or so other states results and counts are far less. Who is lying, the big corrupt Democrat NE states? or the other 45 states? Decide for yourselves. I know what I think, it's obvious. My reasonable speculation without CDC and Soprano State ****ery are about ~20-30k REAL corona deaths.

    2. The initial models were grievously wrong in almost every possible way, including eventual death counts, everyone who is not Joe Biden asleep in a chair knows this full well, making appeals to initial absurdly bad models disingenuous or if not outright dishonest by the partisan fear peddlers.

    3. Any claims about medical equipment, ICU beds are so laughably absurd in hindsight as to appear to be trolling. Whole of above quote is pure GIGO. Not surprised.

Quote: "No credible scientific evidence supports the efficacy of lockdowns"

    Only premature claims, examples;

    1. “So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu,” Trump tweeted. “It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!”

    2. "There are only 15 cases of coronavirus in the US, and within a couple days, it is going to be down to close to zero".

In other words, YOU will be proven wrong.

Do the testing and act accordingly. Meanwhile restart the economy. The healthcare system is capable of treating the Corona virus cases. And people need their jobs back to support their families.

There is no correlation. Sweden got it right although they did not protect the nursing homes sufficiently as the admit. Thanks Ted China.

"The federal government is classifying the deaths of patients infected with the coronavirus as COVID-19 deaths, regardless of any underlying health issues that could have contributed to the loss of someone’s life.

"Dr. Deborah Birx, the response coordinator for the White House coronavirus task force, said the federal government is continuing to count the suspected COVID-19 deaths, despite other nations doing the opposite."

    https://nypost.com/2020/04/07/feds-classify-all-coronavirus-patient-deaths-as-covid-19-deaths/

This vindicates Dr. Dan Erickson who was mentioned in that Washington Times article:

"But ER doctors now say, you know, when we're writing the death report, we're being pressured to add covid - why is that? Why are we being pressured to add covid, to maybe increase the numbers? I think so ... my colleagues say we are being pressured to add covid to the diagnostic list when we think it has nothing to do with the actual cause of death. The actual cause of death was not covid."

Does the above ___ somehow address the fact that no credible science supports draconian virus mitigation methods including lockdown, social distancing, masks, etc.? Of course it doesn't. Thanks for wasting my time.

Science supports only the quarantine of the sick and the at-risk, if you don't learn anything else, learn that. Could there be some credible science supporting draconian mitigation methods? Of course, human knowledge is always expanding, such as science determining that COVID19 is a bad cold with serious danger for those who were just about to die anyway and no one else.

But for now, there is -0- credible scientific evidence that draconian mitigation methods do anything, more evidence in fact that they are COUNTERPRODUCTIVE.

Oh, and btw, I don't give a rat of what Trump tweets or doesn't, do you have no understanding of what scientific evidence, inquiry, data is and is not? Apparently you do not.
