https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.se...s-claims-as-coronavirus-crisis-lingers/?amp=1 Impostors have used the stolen information of tens of thousands of people in Washington state to fraudulently receive hundreds of millions of dollars in unemployment benefits, the head of the state's Employment Security Department said Thursday. Commissioner Suzi LeVine said the state is working with federal law enforcement, financial institutions and the U.S. Department of Labor to investigate the fraud and try to recover the money paid out during the huge spike in joblessness during the coronavirus crisis. LeVine said she can't release specific numbers or details of the ongoing investigation. But she said that counter-measures taken by the state have "prevented hundreds of millions of additional dollars from going out to criminals and have prevented thousands of fraudulent claims being filed." ****** Government work at its finest, again. Honestly if some of you all knew what went on at my workplace, you'd be shocked. I see this sort of incompetence often, and it makes me wonder how anyone would think government should run Healthcare. They think that because they just don't know, but believe me, if the true extent of how much money we waste was ever public, some of you all would vomit.
Whenever there is free money or free anything being passed out, it is guaranteed that the scammers and fraudsters will get their share. Happens every time.
This is a common scam. They usually file around Christmas hopping that the stolen person's current employer won't notice.
Not at all suprising, Washington is the best and most important state in the union. But it's government is completely trash leftists.
yeah, land lords and people abused the Stimulus status system too, to find out how much people made and when they got their check, sad world not to mention some got more than one stimulus check, or for their deceased partners as this was not cross-referenced when sending out checks, divorced people were finding their money deposited in a ex's account.... what a mess
course the rich probably scammed more than anyone members of congress and Trump telling people everything ok, stock market looking good, while selling and telling their rich buddies to sell Trump getting rid of oversight on handing out the stimulus for the rich sure is ripe with bad actors too
Hundreds of millions of dollars’ lost in Washington to unemployment fraud amid coronavirus joblessn Of course. It was a government program. The scary part is that the house democrats want another one.
Feel free to elaborate on govt waste, that would be a good thread actually. I know I've had s I'll me experience with FEMA in my career that are head spinners.
One of the biggest hurdles from the beginning was how to get the money out quickly, but prevent fraud. (And I don't have the answer, although I lean towards accepting delays in hopes of preventing fraud, rather than accepting fraud in order to expedite payments.)
The way to stop it is to catch some, put them in an unroofed cage, call them one by one, and provide them with a summary public execution by rifle squad (cheap, plenty of volunteers). Make them know that the cost is high, if they dare to try.
Never in my life have I heard the phrase "money is no object". We call it monopoly money. Right now we are paying to RENT two dozen forklifts for the past two years, which it would have been cheaper to buy the things and then own them. We rent the building. We rent the pallet racking. I've sent more stupid **** on overnight pallets costing 5 figures just because someone at HQ didn't want to wait until Monday to run to Office Max. I could write a book. I knew we were wasteful in the USMC when we had range days where we needed to expend our allocation of ammunition for the year, so at the end of the fiscal year, we used to load up every magazine we had full of ammunition and fire it off as fast as possible. If we didn't use those rounds, we couldn't have them the following year. I didn't realize then that that practice permeates all levels of government, but instead of ammunition, it's money. Its crazy.
