SNIP More than 20 House Republican lawmakers and four constituents filed a lawsuit against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Tuesday, in an effort to block proxy voting in the chamber. The House voted earlier this month to temporarily allow remote voting because of the coronavirus pandemic. Under those new rules, a member can vote on behalf of up to 10 of their colleagues who aren't able to make it to Washington, D.C. for floor votes. No Republican voted in favor of the change. At least 63 House Democrats have notified the House Clerk that they plan to vote by proxy while it's allowed. ENDSNIP https://www.aol.com/house-republicans-sue-block-proxy-120600065.html Well, this seems like the dumbest thing R's have done since.... the 9am hour... Almost a lock the House will be back in regular business by the time any court gathers to laugh this one out... So..... Why?? Also, I'm curious how these 'four constituents' play into the lawsuit... Somebody needs to explain to me how Congressperson A asking Congressperson B to vote Yea on Bill X is somehow against the Constitution? If this was made permanent, this could also solve a problem if a sick or disabled Congressperson cannot make it to chambers for a vote... And I don't want to hear 'that's the norm' because there aren't any 'norms' anymore. Thoughts? On the process or this "lawsuit"?
Hey, will you let me fill in your ballot in November? We all know what the left is up to. They need to push the fear and misery of the china virus for as long as they can so Biden will have an excuse not to leave his basement and debate Trump.
1) What happens if a person changes their mind and wants to vote a different way at the 11th hour 2) According the article, Proxy voting is unconstitutional because a majority has to be physically present. If theyr'e trying this because of C-19, I am sure they have access to a phone and can vote that way.
Seems Zoom or Microsoft Teams would be sufficient. Actually **** Washington. They should stay with their constituents anyways and only vote through electronic means.
1. As you say in #2, pick up the phone and update your proxy person.... Not like you have to have something notarized or anything. 2. Of course they're trying this because of C-19. Feel free to post that section of the Constitution... Life would be a LOT easier if you guys didn't suspect every common sense move had some nefarious aspect to it..
If you change your mind at the 11th hour. As far s the constitution goes that was acceding the article
Don’t worry Steve. I have a feeling that sometime in mid September we’re going to see a headline similar to this. Breaking News Postmaster General Suspicious Of Mail Fraud; DOJ Uses Warrants to Seize All Early Mail-in Ballots Amid Concerns Of Election Tampering. Full story on FOX.
That's something you never see...... Full story on Fox.. You do have a vivid imagination however.... gotta give you that...
The Constitution requires that there be a quorum in Congress to conduct business. It also requires the Congress to enter their own votes. Nothing in the constitution allows another Congressman to enter the vote for someone else. Under the rules that the Democrats pushed through, a quorum is not required, and someone can enter the votes for us to 10 Congressmen. This is a clear violation of the Constitution which is not a laughing matter. With the current make up of Congress the Democrats could end up with only 24 Democrat Congressmen present. If you assume that all the GOP shows up then there will be 221 Congressmen present. But if three or more GOP does not show up for a vote, then a quorum would not be achieved, and the vote would be illegal. Additionally, if the GOP were to adopt this rule, then there definately would not be a quorum. You would end up with 44 Congressmen voting in person on any issue. This would not allow the missing Congressmen to hear the testimony that are made on the house floor, and the votes are made based on assumption instead of facts. This decision made by the DNC is completely illegal and a clear violation of the Constitution. It will definately be blocked by the SCOTUS.
You quote the Constitution, yet you do not POST the parts you are quoting... Nancy says she's on firm legal ground here... On your quorum question, if they don't have a quorum, they don't get to vote on anything..... easy peasy.... I read 71 D's are asking for upcoming proxies, meaning @ 160 D's are likely to be there... If R's don't show up, well, that's on them... The SCOTUS will never get involved with another branches procedural rules...
A. They aren't peons.. B. Millions and millions of people are currently working from home, many likely for good. Here are your options 1. House doesn't come back (until OK'd by medical experts) - Nothing will get done, but not much is getting done now anyway. 2. Remote Voting (as Republican darling Liz Cheney is suggesting??) - Actually, I would like that better, but I think that's a tougher hill to climb 3 This https://thehill.com/homenews/house/...n-to-remote-voting-blasts-proxy-voting-system It just boggles my mind why this is a partisan issue... it's not like this changes the balance of power or anything. My guess is it's simply a clever solution, which confuses the crap out of most on the right.
Remote voting seems fine only if they cant handle the travel, but they shouldn't have that hard of a time, planes trains and automobiles are still working last I checked. That's how I get to work. Just shuffle out the door and go to work, 10's of millions did that today, and they will again tomorrow. If that's so tricky then maybe it's time to quit.
If you pay attention to FOX for the next two months then you’ll see the full story of how the Dems, the deep state and the liberal media colluded, lied and committed felonious crimes to try and take down a presidency. But I’m sure like many you’ll be watching The View and Masked Singer. On a side note what the hell ever happened to Micheal Avenatti? Wasn’t he the left’s darling that was going to take on Trump in the 2020 election. or what about that “full” story the left media ran about the Covington High kids. I hear that CNN, MSNBC and other liberal news media outlets settled for undisclosed amounts. Sure wish we could have known the outcome of those payouts.
If they don’t show up to work, they should be recalled. Funny grocery cashiers can show up for work, but the snowflake democrats feel they are exempt. Botox Pelosi should be heading back to Chinatown to show people how safe it is.
Avanatti went to jail, something about defrauding or extorting Nike. Of course he was released because corona.
Sounds to me like a ploy to confuse, delay and obstuct. What happens when senator A and senator B both proxy vote for senator C? Most likely it results in a huge scandal and expensive belabored and time consuming investigation during which nothing is accomplished only to eventually find out it was an honest miscomunication. A situation that no doubt will benefit 'the resistance' bent on sabotaging anything associated with the bad orange man. Im not opposed to senators voting by phone or video conference, so long as its recorded and available for public viewing.
Trump said he wanted vote by Proxy in times of National Emergency, why are these republicans turning against Trump
A waste of an effort, my friend. I’d rather have a Corona and watch Ralph and Ed reruns. I wonder if Ralph was a Conservative?
I had to post this follow up to this story because it made me laugh... hope you do too... SNIP A day after filing a federal lawsuit to overturn rules allowing proxy voting, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy said any bills approved under the new system may be unconstitutional and could be ignored by the Republican-led U.S. Senate. ENDSNIP https://news.yahoo.com/republicans-cast-doubt-future-u-171124095.html So, in other words, status quo....
Well, they went and did it yesterday anyway.... First ever proxy votes (I think) in the US House... https://news.yahoo.com/u-bill-pressure-china-over-064542338.html 413-1 - Interesting pickle for Trump... Does he sign the bill, even though it was voted by proxy votes, which R's don't support?? Nancy is a smart one... The first proxy vote is for a bill almost all of Congress supports. This puts the ball clearly in Trump's court, where he normally kicks it back in the fairway (mixing a sports metaphor there) (Also, wonder who the 1 no vote was??)
I love how these dems don’t mind requiring Grocery store clerks, nurses, doctors, police officers, etc to risk their lives as essential employees but they don’t think they are essential enough to get to work on running the govt.
