None of this is helped by the face masks being worn now by the general public. Hard to separate the protesters from the rioters.

No they're not. All it would have took is one out of the 4 cops on that scene to says is " hey man, he can't breathe" and none of this would have happened. As simple as that!!! In everyone of these type situations if one cop would have the f**king balls enough to say to his partner " hey, that's unnecessary " this crap wouldn't happen as often.
There is a video of this exact thing happening, where a cop has his knee on a suspects neck and the other cop slap his leg and yells at the other officer. That's how it should always be done.

Yes, I did in the original post.
You're not so dense or gullible as to believe this has anything to do with Floyd George are you?

Not "Lit by". That was the excuse, not the reason. A few initial protests were based on that, but the thugs took advantage of that opportunity to use it for other reasons.

This is not a protest over Mr. Floyd's death anymore and it sure as hell isn't a bunch of Peter Pans who haven't grown up. This is an attack on the US government and it is organized, directed and it's effectiveness is growing every night. They are forcing a crisis of government to force negotiations and change to a more socialist nation. Changes they failed to accomplish through our election process. This is organized and well executed and the outcome is still in doubt.

Nobody endorses what the cop did- and I don't think you can find a single statement of support from law enforcement for it anywhere.
Cops take abuse every day- and tolerate it. The face the risk of being shot or ambushed by the trash roaming the streets of America just because they wear the uniform, everyday.
They are people- trained and re-trained, and constantly in the line of fire. But you think they should be perfect?

People don't get arrested without cause. George was passing counterfeit money- if he was not doing that, then he would not have met officer Chauvin, and things would be"how it should be done".
The basic trigger here was crime by Mr George. That is the first link in the chain of events. George was also a physically very big man, which could be difficult to control. Of course George was black.
So he should have had a pass in the first place, right?

We see all these thugs out there throwing bricks at cops, burning cars and buildings that belong to people who have nothing to do with this- demonstrating "How it should be done", but you don't seem to take offense at that.

I fully agree that this has roots in people and purposes beyond those of street protest. The street people are behaving like children, and they are the pawns of those behind the overall plan. However, if those street level protestors were responsible adults, they wouldn't allow themselves to be used, would they?

That's what comes from raising generations of people who can be herded like sheep, because there will always be others ready to use them.

Here's someone who took a positive step towards peace in the streets of his city:

Sheriff Christopher R. Swanson of Genesee County in Michigan stood before a crowd of protesters Saturday. They were outraged over the death last week of George Floyd in Minneapolis, police brutality and systemic racism.

“We want to be with you all for real,” Swanson said, addressing the demonstrators who had gathered in Flint, Michigan, according to footage from WEYI-TV.

He said he made it a point to take off his helmet and that officers had put down their batons. “I want to make this a parade, not a protest,” he said.

As the demonstrators applauded, he shook a protester’s hand and high-fived another. He then acknowledged the children in the crowd. Gesturing to the officers behind him, he asked the crowd what he and the other officers needed to do.

The crowd chanted: “Walk with us. Walk with us. Walk with us.”

    And so he did.

Hmm..Except the looters and the protesters are 2 completely different groups of people NOT standing for each others end goals.
Looters and rioters saw an opportunity, and took advantage. They have always been there in hiding, and waiting. And now here they are, and they are being weeded out.

I see you got distracted by the rioters, lets please face the reality of what started the protest. Even police sheriffs acknowledge the movement and what it signifies.

I saw that. I think that is viable with a crowd in a legitimate protest, and this obviously was. The officer was obviously pretty good as analyzing the situation, and made a good choice.
Not a smart thing to do when the crowd has stockpiled bricks in advance to throw at you, however- and that is happening in NYC.
I have no doubt some people are protesting honestly, but that has been hijacked by people with far more malicious motives.

No, this is what happens when people are raised by people that went through to same thing in the 50s and 60s. We never learn from history. So count on it happening again.

You are chasing the red herring. The George incident is hardly the motive for all this- it was reason for some initial protest, but is now only an excuse. The cops could not act instantly because the law had to be followed- but did act very fast. The bad cop is in jail, charged with murder- so justice in that case is in progress... So why haven't the protests calmed down? Why are people are committing arson on a wholesale level and throwing brick at cops that had nothing to do with the incident? IF consequences for the cop was the objective, why are they all becoming felons and destroying property of people who have nothing to do with the issue of Floyd George? WHY would anyone trying to make a legitimate statement of social protest stand in company with people openly looting, burning, throwing bricks at police? They wouldn't. Any such person would look at that and get the hell our of there fast- and that leaves thugs; terrorists, pawns being used without realizing it. People without moral values or self-control.

There is a lot of trash in the world- people who feel life hasn't been fair to them, and they want to get even for that. Has little to do with reality, but a lot with expectations, and with weakness. When politicians promote the idea that you are entitled to never be offended, that the only reason you are poor is that others are rich, they are pandering to human weakness to gain votes- and creating an army of fools. That is who is on the street in violence. The instigators of that crap, the people using those fools, aren't there- they are pulling the strings from behind.

When you have a segment of your population that lacks the ability to control their own emotions, that can be manipulated and used by others- it's going to happen, and it is.

They will get a lot of lip service to the supposed cause, but if you pay just a little bit of attention- you see that isn't getting any reception at all.
That's because the real motives have nothing to do with "justice for Floyd George".

That is why I feel strongly that people have to think of ways to defuse the situation not scream at it. Almost everyone is against destruction. I hope almost everyone supports peaceful protest if those are the nation's goals only the country at large through name calling, inaction and blame casting can keep that from happening. Lets think not scream.

COVID is over in the USA. You can crowd into any city and it's A-Okay. No reason to bother with face masks anymore.

It's riot-loot-burn. There are no peaceful protests. Where people appear to be peacefully protesting it's a diversion to help others riot-loot-burn.

In terms of restraint, I just saw an article where two officers used stun guns in making an arrest at Atlanta riots. They were fired for that as "excessive force".
The police have shown tremendous restraint everywhere- and suffered hundreds of injuries, some very serious, in return.

Almost everyone is against destruction obviously does not include the people present at these riots- anyone really not willing to be part of such a mob would get the hell out of there.

This continues because people behind it intend to provoke true violence in the reaction of the police, and are willing to sacrifice those street people to do that.

The problem of course is that you can't reason with people who don't want to be reasonable. Talking only works when they want to listen- or you are willing to capitulate.
I think this is an effort to force us to do just that, force society to surrender the nation.

What part of what I said is blaming blacks for anything? I was commenting on how the media frames the narrative and in this case that has already led to bloodshed. This is going to get a lot worse and probably end in a bloodbath and I wonder how we will live with that.

I didn't mean to 'blame you', I was saying, since news has gone full on commercial, since the advent of cable, publishers publish what sells. I mean 'blame the public'. ( for what sells, i.e., not you).

    Please reread what I said
I said goals should be peaceful protests and that I thought name calling, inaction, and blame casting were hurdles to achieving that. I want to defuse the situation too many people want to do things that will further violence. We have to get past division and anger.

The heck they dont. Why you so desperate to change the motive? Stop Murdering black people on the streets in front of the cameras and others in broad daylight, then refusing to serve justice to privileged whites..And this wont happen.

I take it from your post that you agree with me that this is not a protest, or a riot or even terrorism.

    This is an insurrection.

The cop involved was arrested and charged with murder within days, and is in prison. Is anyone in the street satisfied? No. They throw bricks at cops, and wonder why cops see them in a bad light. They loot and burn property of people who have nothing to do with the situation. And you actually think this is about George?

This is about insurrection, with a far wider purpose than Floyd George and one bad cop. IF you have a rational, logical mind, that is 100% obvious.

It's a matter of recognizing the real motive rather than chasing the red herring they want you to bite on- which you obviously have.

    Yes.
Put yourself in the position of a cop; see how easy it would be to become prejudiced against people throwing bricks at you. Ask yourself how you would react to being called a pig and regularly insulted by the trash you had to deal with; how that would alter your perspective of people.

Put yourself in the place of a person being arrested for an alleged crime, and see how cooperation usually gets you treated fairly but firmly; how resistance is met with force- usually by necessity.

Being a cop is a tough job, and often thankless- people don't want to see you until they need you. Both cops and those they deal with are people, there will be exceptions and bad conduct.
It cannot and never will be one-sided, nor make everyone happy. NONE of which authorizes arson, looting or throwing bricks- and NO honorable person, no matter how offended by a wrong doing, is going to participate in such things targeted against people in general- UNLESS they are the very kind of people that threaten all of us. You may think tolerating that is good policy and will improve their behavior...
    I don't.
