That is a call for continual investigation.

And, that is exactly what is being done. Evolution continues to be tested every day. In fact, every ancient piece of a life form is a test of evolution.

Let's remember that every important theory in science is one that is used, that has a record of pushing understanding forward, and is constatly tested as a result. We do that with the theory of relativity, too.

Also, let's remember that there IS no other competing scientific theory for the theory of evolution.

Finally, that list is short and not particularly oriented toward those who are experts in fields of biology.

And, it includes those working in "alternative medicine", "atmospheric sciences", computer science, electrical engineering, etc.

My bet is that they are more likely to share RELIGION than science.

In the highly educated crowd that translates to we know its bullshit.
Yes thats why it has been debunked.
    Or in this case backward.
Yes the bogus 'warped space that there are plenty of idiots out here that truly believe space 'physically' warps.
Not required for debunking sorry. Bogus science is an alternative theory.
I'd take that bet, but only regarding theists, because darwinism is a atheist religion.
This is not a court, expert witnesses are not required to have an opinion about evolution, look at you, the fact that you defend the now debunked theory speaks for itself.
Yes that list is very short more :icon_shithappens:

Thats your bogus requirement, (yourself excepted of course) all that is required in the real world is that one understand the material.

    A SCIENTIFIC DISSENT FROM DARWINISM“
We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged.”

Thank you so much for the 'honest' assessment Will :icon_shithappens:

I only had to break the list up into 7 parts to keep within the 16,000 character posting limit.

You have NO idea how many scientists there are who are actually working in fields of biology - let alone the body of science and technology from which you TINY list was sifted.

Plus, I don't believe you're really catching on to the variety of reasons a scientist would sign such a statement.

    A statement by a signee:
This pertains to my point concernig continued examination.

Without the freedom to address science with a totally open mind, mistakes and falsehoods will enter. Science depends on that freedom.

The statement by this individual does not suggest that her signature indicates she sees evolution theory as being on tenuous ground. She is stating something of overriding importance about how science works.

Another signee, Berlinski, is a member of the Discovery Institute (authors of the ID idea) who doesn't actually believve in ID at all. He has said,:
So, besides being TINY (due to scraping peopole from pretty much every arena of science and technology) and includes people who have agendas both positive for science and negative toward science in general - with those agendas appearing to dominate their reasons for signing.

Neither of these are at ALL unusual. In fact, this is an important part of what scientific method was created to address.

A primary principle is that EVERY scientist MUST remain skeptical. Without that skepticism, scientific method doesn't work. Science has to progress with the understanding that even mankind's most fundamental understandings can't be assumed without question.

How could we have achieved relativity theory if scientists had not been skeptical of the fundamentals of previous physics?

How could we have achieved evolution theory if science hadn't been skeptical of what came before?

And, I don't see ANY of these signees suggesting that science previous to evolution theory was somehow superior in any way - nor do they project some alternate scientific theory.

I’m not sure but I think this entire argument rings of some kind of fallacy. Like an illusion between two bad choices. also Darwin is being used as a straw man.
Of course non of these matters to theists because they’ve already shown their capacity to discard reason and logic in place of faith anyway.

Any atheist worth his own salt doesn’t worship any man. He uses his own mind as an independent being to draw his own conclusions.

Religion had to taught dogmatically. Taken on faith. It’s why it has to be done every Sunday in order to continually argue for something that isn’t there.
Although I have no problem with people going to church. It’s their right. I just refuse to live that way.

I find it pathetic that the Discovery Institute spends its time getting signatures on a petition when it should be getting empirical evidence for its... theory. After all, in 1998 the Wedge Document said that its 20 year goal was to see ID as the dominant paradigm in science. It's now 2020, and that hasn't happened. And so they engage in ludicrous activities like the petition.

I do agree that "Darwin" is sort of a straw dog in that it gets used as a name for something that has progressed beyond what Darwin imagined. At this point what Darwin actually thought is not a serious representation of what is known today.

Plus, I suspect there are those that think there is political benefit in tying evolution to the early ideas of one man.

True - I think they are gettig squeezed.

A significant percent of those who believe in a roughly Abrahamic god aren't interested in the idea of god actively working through evolution. That's not Genesis and it's not Theist. It's not Catholicism.

And, given that their ideas require active partiipation of a god, they can't claim it's science or use scientific method.

Once their audience accepts the evolution part, I dont see them as having much room left.

He was the first naturalist to try to integrate all living things. To put them in categories to further man’s understanding of nature. All naturalists today benefit from his work. The whole argument is completely out of context.
For people to pick it apart to further a religious argument today is asinine.
Newton still took us to the moon even though Einstein furthered his work, but when was the last time we’ve heard a Christian beat up on Newton even though evolution is tied directly in with gravity.

Good point. Many people get so caught up in religion, positions, opinions and the meaning of life, that they forget to just be themselves, to love their families, work and pursue happiness.

Much evil has also been done in the name of God. And if to do evil is a sin. Then to do it in Gods name is near to blasphemy.

    Great points.

Another is that Einstien's progress is required in makig GPS work.

Maybe the antiscience crowd should be happy that they aren't getting lost - at least in THAT sense!!

Intelligent Design was invented by a nut with a law degree. He was trying to sneak religion into public school curicula. He got laughed out of court.

ID can never be part of science. It's a sad joke for sad people.

Evolution is the only scientific theory for life that can explain how we get complexity from simplicity and diversity from uniformity.
ID offers nothing comparable. It begins with complexity, a Supreme Being, and also ends there. The explanations offered by ID are not really explanations at all, they're more like last resorts.
