Another person posted this in another political forum:

I've gotta rant about this virus madness. I know many are happy to wear masks because it makes them feel safe, but I'm not one of them, and I'm disgusted that the masks and social distancing nonsense are still going on here in Tennessee. We were told that everything would open up last Friday, but the nonsense is continuing at some businesses, and I refuse to go along with it anymore.

My dental office called today to remind me of tomorrow's appointment. I was told I couldn't just walk in like usual, that I'd have to park my car, stay in my car and call them, and then someone would walk out my paperwork to me. I said I wanted to reschedule my appointment for after all the nonsense stops and asked when that would be. She said she didn't know and that they were going week by week. I canceled the appointment and she will call me when regular business activities resume. This is NOT Tennessee reopening and should NOT be what people are touting as "the new normal" since stupidity isn't normal for some of us!

The virus has been hyped all out of proportion for political reasons, there is no reason for healthy people to walk around with masks like so many still are, and no reason not to be able to walk into the dentist's office for my appointment. I will no longer comply with what I see as colossal stupidity and will not frequent any business that insists on it. So there!

I might have been just a little less strident; but I basically agree.

Why didnt you just tweet the user that you are quoting?

No, I vehemently disagree with the notion that this virus was overhyped or that continued encouragement and enforcement of pandemic control measures are a bad thing.

    Spot on.
The regular seasonal flu kills about the same number EVERY YEAR the covid-19 has, and likely more.....but you never hear a peep from them about that.
It's nothing more than another "Russian collusion" / "Impeach NOW" hoax designed to get the orange man and destroy capitalism.
We are fools to allow them to continuously snow us like they do.

To me they are no longer Americans, but some foreign enemy we invited into our beds.

I stopped wearing the stupid things last week.

You realize that Covid-19 killed more in 2 months than the seasonal flu kills in a year, right?

With winter still to come. But, no, they don't realize that. Or they appeal to tinfoil conspiracy theories instead.

How can you possibly be this willingly ill-informed? This is, objectively, a false statement. Please do homework. At least a little.

If the violence gripping the united states in various states is not going to be quelled, and instead left to play out, there is no justification for maintaining current coronavirus policies, as the protestors and rioters are not observing social distancing guidelines.

Why do you vehemently disagree? Is it because you have some vested interest in seeing the shut-down continue?

We now live in a world where we seem to be regulating the general public worse than we do the the rioters?

    Tell you what.
YOU do some research and I will too.

They tell you the world is ending and you just can't help but take the bait hook line and sinker.

Let me guess.....you also believed Al Gore's predictions 20 years ago that human life would be extinct by now due to "global warming"

So obviously you bought into every line of BS they offered you.
I can't count the number of times I've seen people make uninformed statements, only to never learn and repeat when they feed them their next line of garbage.

I don't think rioters, by definition, are going to subject to "regulation."

And my "vested interest" in seeing people act responsibly by recognizing the threat of this virus is the safety and well being of myself and my loved ones.

If the virus is as deadly as many say it is, couple that with all the protesting, rioting and looting going on, then I would expect the infection and death counts to skyrocket in the upcoming weeks. Wouldn't that then make the protestors and rioters/looters guilty of attempted murder?

    ~34,150 in the 2018-19 year.

    ~61,000 in the 2017-2018 year.

Do you know the count of the deadliest year from the flu, if you counted flu deaths in the same way that covid-19 deaths are counted?

    (You have no clue)

Your post implies that we should regulate only those who "subject" to regulation, and for those who don't we should just let destroy our cities.

I do have a clue because I've posted about it before. Use the forum search feature. Around 61,000, preliminary numbers. Plus, you initially said "every year," not just last year. Why are you abandoning that claim?

The rioters, like the open-up now movements, are a very tiny minority of the American population.

Using their actions as the guideposts of whether you should maintain social distancing policies is illogica.

Your ability to read my post is incredibly suspect because I make no suggestion or implication that we should let cities be destroyed by illegal behavior.

No one said that covid-19 would end the world nor did Al Gore ever predict that human life would be extinct from global warming.

It begs the question of why you feel the need to fabricate the positions of those with whom you disagree instead of just reacting to the actual claims.

"These statistics on counted deaths suggest that the number of COVID-19 deaths for the week ending April 21 was 9.5-fold to 44.1-fold greater than the peak week of counted influenza deaths during the past 7 influenza seasons in the US, with a 20.5-fold mean increase (95% CI, 16.3-27.7).5,6

The CDC also publishes provisional counts of COVID-19 deaths but acknowledges that its reporting lags behind other public data sources.7 For the week ending April 11, 2020, data indicate that the number of provisionally reported COVID-19 deaths was 14.4-fold greater than influenza deaths during the apparent peak week of the current season (week ending February 29, 2020), consistent with the ranges based on CDC statistics.6 As the CDC continues to revise its COVID-19 counts to account for delays in reporting, the ratio of counted COVID-19 deaths to influenza deaths is likely to increase.

Directly comparing data for 2 different diseases when mortality statistics are obtained by different methods provides inaccurate information. Moreover, the repeated failure of government officials and others in society to consider these statistical distinctions threatens public health. Government officials may rely on such comparisons, thus misinterpreting the CDC’s data, when they seek to reopen the economy and de-escalate mitigation strategies. Although officials may say that SARS-CoV-2 is “just another flu,” this is not true."
