I hope he has had a rethink on this. He’s probably sweating on all those millions lost to the unis if Chinese students don’t return.

The whole world have lost more money in a matter of weeks than most of us can comprehend, and much of that is not coming back.
Andrews needs to catch up and do it fast. The world have changed and he's still living in 2019. It is time for him to switch focus and take care of Victorians, the people who elected him.

Agree. He thinks this is the best way to keep Victoria prosperous but at what cost. The phrase “devil and long spoon” comes to mind.

Belt and Road is a debt trap & projects usually must use Chinese goods and Chinese labour. We already have massive problems with Chinese cladding in our skyscrapers (btw did you see the skyscraper in Dubai burn down because of Chinese cladding.) Now Andrews wants to continue down this road, he is shackling Victoria because he doesn't want to face change. Some people can't deal with change and they are the worst to have in a leadership role when big changes occur because they WILL make the wrong decisions.

I believe Scott Morrison is meeting with Modi in June, I believe the rest of Australia will pivot towards India while Victoria is stuck with China... Andrews in his hope of saving Victoria is simply going to cause us more damage.

'Get off the grass!' Australian PM
told to move on during stimulus announcement

SYDNEY (Reuters) - A media conference by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to announce a new stimulus package briefly turned comical on Thursday when he and reporters were told by a homeowner to get off a newly reseeded lawn.

Morrison travelled to a housing construction site in Googong, 28km (17 miles) south of Canberra to announce his government would spend nearly A$700 million ($480 million) to support an Australian construction sector hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

But as he spoke about the package supporting the "Australian dream" of home ownership, he was interrupted by a local resident.

"Can everyone get off the grass please," an unnamed local shouted at Morrison and the travelling press contingent. "Come on, I've just reseeded that." . . . . .

That Australian Dream is a bit of a delusion now.
A house is often beyond the reach of young homebuyers.
I fear we’ll become a nation of city flat dwellers.

kids need room to run around, for exposure to the sun and fresh air.

It’s a different world from when we grew up. Can’t wind the clock back to the fifties and would we want to.

    No we wouldnt.
So much sad stuff was tolerated. Blindness toward paedophile priests, entrenched corruption in Local government.
We now have no fault divorce, equal rights (theoretically), Many social welfare programs to help the disadvantaged.
The fifties was not like Leave it to Beaver.

Didn’t take long for Adem Somyurek to be sacked. Front page of the Age this morning and ex Cabinet member at 0900.

“Victorian government minister and factional powerbroker Adem Somyurek has been sacked from cabinet.

Mr Somyurek also apologised for his disparaging and misogynistic remarks against Minister for Women Gabrielle Williams and the LGBTI community, following an Age and 6o Minutes investigation on Sunday night.

"I will f---ing force her out of the ministry, that f---ing stupid bitch, when Andrews goes … She's a stupid, stupid moll," Mr Somyurek said of Ms Williams. "I’m going to f---ing knock her f---ing head off. She’s a f---ing psycho bitch."

Premier Daniel Andrews will hold a press conference at 10am.”

Didn't know about this, but the real reason for his sacking is corruption... not the rant

Well this labour crash turned into a pile-up

Clearly Somyurek have been collecting messages for a while... wonder how much dirt he has stashed in his safe on other Labor members... the guy is a huge threat to our democracy... he operates like a mafia boss.

Byrne should remain in his position as Deputy Chair position on the parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee. Corruption is the problem not his potty mouth

Watching a PBS, NOVA series about
    ancient Australia

I noticed some time ago, the only place I might survive is in
    the South East.

And similar to Moi's California and the rest of North America
the South East was the last chunk of land to attach to the rest of the land. Similarly most topographically diverse compared to . . .

Does that make Victoria more earthquake prone than the rest?

Our earthquakes aren’t up to much. Usually insignificant tremors.

No. But then did America get reparations for Pearl Harbor or the Philippines? Kind of hard to do when the offending nation has been reduced to rubble.
