Not enough room in title for whole headline:

Trump says he hopes George Floyd 'looking down' and seeing today’s jobs numbers as 'a great day for him'

    Oy. Sadly, not The Onion.

When it comes to this president, I do my best to not be petty. I dislike him strongly, but I don't think he's to blame for everything, like some do.

Some things, though, while meaningless, throwaway comments, deserve more than a face-palm.

WTF is wrong with this man? My husband believes he has some form of dementia. I'm really starting to believe that is the case.

Who says stuff like this? I look forward to the partisan spin.

This is why Biden’s gaffes won’t matter this election cycle. They won’t register as such because they both are simply prone to them.

Yes, he should have said, "Today Floyd looked up and cursed because the U.S. economy is recovering, and he missed out on the opportunity to loot a free television." It would at least have been more accurate considering that Floyd had a long record as a thug.

    What? Too soon?

Yes, he likely has a form of dementia known to the layperson as full blown dementia...

The man is the human personification of a facepalm.

And he has the cajones to go after Biden for gaffs?

Trumps problem is that no one would be surprised if he had said what was claimed by the OP.. His gaffes are stuff of legend from “Disinfectant inside” to nuking hurricanes to mistaking people’s names (Tim apple) to a sharpie outline on a map

This is why the Trump campaign to paint Joe Biden as having dementia is not gaining traction outside of Trumps base

    Talk about partisan spin.

“Equal justice under the law must mean that every American receives equal treatment in every encounter with law enforcement regardless of race, color, gender or creed. They have to receive fair treatment from law enforcement,” Trump said. “We can’t let that happen. Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying, ‘this is a great thing that’s happening for our country.’ This is a great day for him, it’s a great day for everybody. This is a great day for everybody, this is a great, great day in terms of equality.”

WTF is wrong with the people who twist his words and credulously believe everything the Fake News media feeds them?

And people wonder why he uses Twitter to communicate with people.

So Trump talks about the jobs numbers. Then he pivots to equal justice and says these words: "Equal justice under the law must mean that every American receives equal treatment in every encounter with law enforcement regardless of race, color, gender or creed. They have to receive fair treatment from law enforcement. We can’t let that happen. Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying, ‘this is a great thing that’s happening for our country.’ This is a great day for him, it’s a great day for everybody. This is a great day for everybody, this is a great, great day in terms of equality.”

What happened today that makes it a "great day for [Floyd], ... a great day for everybody?" Continued protests? Continued brutality in response to the protests? Or was Trump specifically having this press conference about the jobs numbers, so that's probably what he's talking about? Trump's speaking ability is like that of a drunk parrot, so I'm honestly asking. Is he saying the protests make today a great day for Floyd and for everybody?

According to the article in the OP:

Trump is certainly no Marcus Tullius Cicero, but it appears his remarks were deliberately and dishonestly twisted completely out of context.

I'll never waste my time reading the Independent again...

Perhaps you can explain in what way is today a great day for George Floyd? Because that’s literally what trump said.

A recovering America is good for everyone in the country, why would any American dead or alive not be happy that people are getting to work to support themselves?

As well he used his name to represent the country in that statement, how on Earth is that not a compliment? He could have pulled from the names of over 100,000 dead C19 victims and yet he did not.

Regardless it does not effect the stunning news of job gains that no one predicted :)

Well, his followers flip flop between, "Trump speaks his mind so you always know where he's coming from," and, "He didn't mean that! Let me explain what he actually meant."

    So, they don't know. LOL

What is "LOL" is watching liberal squirm trying to twist this into anything but great news.

And they are failing horribly at it...

This is the first time I ever see a reasonable excuse for him using Twitter and Facebook.
I follow him on Facebook and saw this post myself.
It’s like we can’t trust any mass media anymore!

And they’re flip flopping between saying that
    - he wasn’t talking about job numbers when he referred to Floyd, he was talking about justice and equality
    And saying that
    - he was obviously talking about job numbers and obviously every American, dead or alive, would be happy with good job numbers (ignoring that trump didn’t say Floyd would be happy, but said it was a great day FOR HIM)

No partisan spin here. He just say's stupid things sometimes. I saw about 3 other posts in here where other people put it into way better words. This is what happens when a president speaks for himself, as himself, without all of his words being scripted and written by someone else.

I agree with most of your post. I would just change one word:
This is what happens when a MORON speaks for himself, as himself, without all of his words being scripted and written by someone else.

Know what would’ve been a great day for George Floyd? If cop didn’t choke him with his knee for eight minutes.

This would’ve been just as inappropriate and tone deaf that’s what he did say. What’s wrong with you?
