Have Democrats actually come up with some good legislation?

It appears they have! While I will (of course) reserve judgement for when I can actually read the text of the law (I can't find it, is this another 'you have to pass it to see whats in it'?), on the surface it looks entirely reasonable and even beneficial. The sort of choke hold used on Floyd was banned everywhere in the nation except Minneapolis, and while banning it 'nationally' will only effectively ban it there, I think this is one of those rare 'good' cases of feds regulating state. Banning no-knock raids is a gimme imo. Its dangerous to cops, dangerous to citizens and undermines the spirit of due process imo. I'm not sure how tracking LE's use of force is going to help, but I don't see any problem with it either, so OK.

Like I said, I still want to read the law (because theres too often something bad hidden in them that the media forgets to mention in their synopsis), but so far I'm thinking the Dems have done a pretty good job here. Here's to hoping its not too early to :applause:

I'm hearing rumors that the 'anti-lynching bill' is being rammed through in it. I wonder if this is the same one that makes it extra-illegal to lynch certain ethnicities because it wasn't already illegal enough to simply lynch (read: abduct and murder) people of any ethnicity...

There has to be a provision in the bill for abortion funding somewhere.

Seems like it always starts as a decent idea, then the complications and surreptitious infusions are sprinkled in, then things totally unrelated to the original decent idea are added on and on and on.

    Congress is NFG.

Why are religious groups opposed to including LBGTQ people as victims in the legislation?

    Apparently being illegal isn't enough.

Something a wise voter should always beware of when a bill that's sure to pass comes up. There will be a ton of pork and privilege packed on it that would never stand on it's own....
The thing in this country that needs ethics reform more than anything else- is congress.

It also is apparently restricting the transfer of military-grade equipment to police departments. Ultimately I think that is a good thing as well.

Because it's symbolic, and symbolism within the law just undermines the credibility of the government. Believe it or not, government as a whole is not meant to be a symbolic gesture. It's meant to be looked on as serious business. Or at least it used to.

    Oh B Effin S

If punishment for crime is supposed to be a deterrent then all punishment for crimes is symbolic and, by your argument, the only valid response to crime is mob violence because any governmental response "just undermines the credibility of the government."

Lynching someone is a crime. Lynching them because they're Black or LBG... is called an aggravating circumstance and aggravating circumstances are used all the time to elevate the seriousness of a crime.

    Welcome to Law 101.

Probably. The beauty of congressional gridlock is that only non partisan legislation is passed. Thankfully we have gridlock currently.

Exactamundo. Pelosi tries that garbage every bill they puke out for Senate approval. Recently, they had a 75-page section they snuck into a totally unrelated bill, without even putting an index entry to find it. Transparency is for the birds with these people.

Too late. Equipment has already been apportioned to police units in Michigan among other states. This includes seized vehicles, such as the black Dodge Charger now radar-equipped and a ticket-issue moneymaker for the county. Or the pickup truck from the construction company owner caught up in tax troubles. Sorry. No nukes, bazookas, tanks or even a fashionable camo ballistics vest.

It's tokenism meant to co opt the protest movement. They know it won't pass and laws are useless if they're not enforced. It was Joe Biden's crime bill and cuts to social services that created the system of exploitation and oppression. It was Obama who militarized the police. Police repression of Standing Rock protesters and Occupy Wall Street happened during the Obama years.

Gridlock is good, no leftist ever said. It is the brakes on irrational emotional legislation for which our spendaholic left has excelled these last six decades or so.

The fewer pieces of legislation this Congress passes, the better. The ones that they do? They should be no more than 10 pages in length and in plain unambiguous language which spawns entire new government agencies and featherbed-jobs for all the wrong people.

You have a clear headed understanding of reality. Bravo. However I would suggest that the Repulicans are just as good at spending other peoples' money.

You should catch me in my Bob Barr kilt with bagpipes. ;-)

    Fixed it for ya.

I agree. Defense, and other enumerated functions of government from which little is being done to drown programs in small bathtubs. Say --- how much did Mueller spend for absolutely no results? How's that war on poverty-pimping going? Oh wait. No war, just the pimping.

Gimme money or I'll burn down my city. Support public schools while we still haven't burned them!
