These lifelong Republicans may vote for Biden come November

    ...

"I think the last three to six weeks have been a turning point," says Tom Rawles, 70. "We can always fight over the issues. But we need to cut out the cancer that is infecting the body politic of America."

That cancer to their party, the couple says, is Trump.

"We'll support Biden not because we agree with him on issues," Linda Rawles says, "but he's a decent, kind, sane man. I've considered myself a Republican since I was 13. We're not at home in our party. We're not Democrats. We don't have anywhere to go."

As an independent myself, I am heartened to see these independents on the right side - of history as well as politics - in this electoral cycle. No matter how you feel about Trump's policies (I find most of them to be irresponsible and shameless pandering to the extreme right, personally), he is a sad, disgusting man who whose glaringly obvious personality disorder has made him grossly incompetent as president and one who is not even capable of adhering to the oath he swore to protect and uphold the Constitution and serve the country. I am heartened also by the polling that shows independents favoring Joe Biden by a good margin and can only hope this trend will continue.

Trump won several swing states by narrow margins against a very unpopular candidate (who was even sniped by the director of the FBI) and with record low voter turnout. November 2020 will be a very, very different story.

It is well known there are many Trump-haters in the Republican Party, especially in the higher levels.
Most of it is for the very reason Trump got elected, because of his positions on trade & immigration, and America's place with respect to the rest of the world.

Many people have accused them of being "moderates in Republican clothing", or "Republicans in name only". There may be a lot of truth to that, but the issue is not merely so simple as just that.

Does anyone really think that if Hillary was president the virus wouldn't have happened and there wouldn't be protests right now?

What in the world is Biden going to different?

Remember that he had his chance when they had their own virus and absolutely failed to react.

"So, I guess we will vote for a pedophile, I'm so old and wrinkly I'm not sure what a pedophile is, but democrats tell me its a good thing, summer of love and all that, I also decided that since the ladies on the view support rape now that I will ignore that charge as well." "Joe is such a decent man"

    yep!

Side-by-side on a human level Biden definitely registers as the decent one with emotional maturity.

Yes. You can pick a name out of hat and they’d all perform better on the health crisis and social unrest. Trump’s got an uncanny ability (disability) to make matters worse. His glaring lack of judgement is directly tied to his emotional immaturity.

Trump has been the wrong man (utilizing man loosely) at the wrong time.

    An unknown.

If Trump hadn't started a trade war with China, maybe, just maybe, the Chinese worker that traded in exotic bat parts might
have been working in another trade - one impacted by the trade war.

Maybe with better relations between China and the US, there might have been more cooperation and more transparency on the outbreak of the virus.

Maybe if Hillary were President, black Americans would have felt they were more part of the government, with more minority
Cabinet members and more minority representation.

Too many unknowns to claim it wouldn't be different.

There is zero enthusiasm for Biden. It's obvious. Trump has been driving massive turnouts in the primaries compared to Biden. It's not even close.

Biden is a placeholder for Hillary at best. Every vote for Biden increases the odds she could be appointed to the Supreme Court. Imagine the havoc she could cause in a lifelong position like that.

Our handling of the virus thus far is by far the WORST OF ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. We are 25% of the worlds cases and 25% of the deaths from Covid.

Both parties need to start actively recruiting YOUNGER candidates for all political offices. We have far too many people holding office who should be retired, and that's coming from a 79 year old. We have a LOWER age limit to hold office but no upper limit on age, it would be better if that were reversed

Who's going to be Biden's VP that's the determining factor no? I mean if he picks 'Boxcar' Stacey Abrams
the governor of Georgia that wasn't who want's to risk her becoming president? And you know he's going to pick black and female and he's not going to last 6 months in office.

Biden's VP needs to be a cardiologist who speaks mumble and has a degree in criminal law who specializes in sexual assault cases.

I have never been impressed with the scope or breadth of the 'never trumpers' as a political force. I saw it as wishful thinking that they would be influential. At long last, I have begun to pay attention to Republican opposition to the Scourge and I think it will be a major factor in swing states. I hear too many disparate voices of disenchanted republicans (some evangelical christians, some moderates, some conservative/ libertarians) with the guts to speak out and its snowballing on the internet. Those Never Trump republicans have been isolated and lonely wolves howling at the cold arctic winds for a long time. Now its quite a chorus and they can finally take some pride in sounds of the large and vocal pack.
There are a lot more men and women of integrity in the GOP out there this time but sadly none of them other than Romney, are in positions of power.

President Trump brought the reactionary wing of the GOP to the forefront.

The Republican Party of Lincoln, TRoosevelt, Eisenhower, and Goldwater has been destroyed...

That was done in the Bush years. Now there’s little difference between the Dems and the GOP in the larger scheme except the narrative of who is good and who is bad, depending on the day of the week.

20% of Dem Party voters are now admitting that Joe Biden is suffering from dementia. Will they still be voting for Dementia Joe anyway? As for RINOs, there just aren't enough of those to matter.

Perhaps the country just has to hide in the basement like creepy Joe until it's safe to come out again. Of course there won't be an economy to speak of, but lots of quality time in the basement seems to have done a lot for Joe..

Thats' how it works when someone else sits in that that Oval on the chair warming the fabric for over three years. We expect them to stop blaming the vice president from three years back and a man who was one of fifty senators over a decade ago.

Really? Why are you still peddling this obvious lie? It was the Obama CDC that got authorization to research in a non certified level IV research lab in China because no one in this country could validate that the SARs type research that the Obama folks wanted to try could be done anywhere else than in China. And once that leaked from the lab because they couldn't ever maintain their level four containment, it got out in the world. Funny theory though on your part. Nice to see you stepping up to the plate to defend your Chinese masters.
