What of the numerous protests across various cities, where masks and social distancing guidelines were abandoned, and their activities actually encouraged to continue?

The OP explicitly referenced the "mass protest gatherings."

But both of you are wrong to suggest that the data supports those protests are to blame for the current spike because any impact that they may have had was countered by the fact that even more people stayed home to avoid the protest crowds.

I always tried to stay home before because it's such a severe punishment to drive on congested roads. Always tried to get at least five errands in one hop and designed my route to only turn right like the UPS folks do. That reduces your total punishment.

I'm still wearing a mask but it's getting close to the dog days, and I can't breathe but barely now and will have to rethink it and re-decide then.

Try again. You missed the "... and mass protest gatherings ..." in the OP.

    Here's another story, from Texas.
As North Texas watches COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations surge, one family is shouldering a health crisis that they never expected to face. That crisis, all began on May 30 when just a single relative, unknowingly infected with COVID-19, interacted with seven family members at a surprise birthday party. Those seven family members then contracted and spread the virus to 10 other relatives.

So, not enough people at the protests in cities all over the country to account for any of the rise in cases? Seriously?

Many were wearing masks in the BLM marches, but social distancing wasn't possible in many of the crowds. And then there are the counter-protesters who don't wear masks because their her, Trump, won't wear one, plus the throngs crowding state capitals like Lansing, all elbow to elbow with no masks.

Granted that the current numbers are more attributable to the masses returning to beaches, parks, bars and restaurants and so forth, but every time they showed a huge crowd shot of a protest gathering, I saw a target-rich environment for COVID-19.

Re-opening could have worked but too many American's chose to be selfish, stubborn, ignorant, arrogant, selfish selfish selfish disgusting punks and refused by refusing to wear a mask and keep distance - and of course the scores of loser protest mobs out there doing their part to ensure the second wave of COVID.

They concluded about a week or two too early. The hardest hit areas are cities that are under Liberal control(IE: The protesters land.)

I'm right there with you on that. Just got back from a three stop run: bank, dispensary, grocery store, in that order. And the warmer weather does make a mask less comfortable, but that's a small price to pay IMO.

ROFL at leftwing logic ---- since the civilized people stayed home to avoid the "protests", it's okay if the "protesting" thugs were spreading COVID, because at the end of the day it's a wash in terms of cases. ROFLMAO!

Two of the biggest are Florida and Texas. Try again.

Really? Because last time I looked, the states with the worst spikes include Arizona, Alabama, Texas ... yaeah, acalifirnia is getting slammed, but to claim it's only happening in blue states or cities is hogwash, and needlessly partisan.

The virus doesn't take sides, but in general, those who habitually wear masks in public are predlminantly liberal, while those who make it a politically based point to forego mask wearing, following Trump's example, are predominantly righties.

If you want to make this disastrous pandemic a political issue, I'm up for that, but be careful what you wish for.

Even in 'red' states. Florida(AKA: Miami county) is strictly BLUE. No one is going to argue otherwise. Texas? The biggest hit is Dallas. Let me give you an example where I live. We in Philadelphia had an UNOPPOSED Democratic mayor.

So even though these states may have Republican governors, as I said: It's Democratic cities leading the charge.

Looks like all the original shutdown did was delay the inevitable, so unless you had planned on staying shutdown till there was no more virus, this was going to happen. So now we let it runs it course and rather than flattening the curve and dragging it out, let it peak and fall quickly.

I think locking down and destroying people's livelihoods is much much worse. I think it will be a long time before we know just how much damage the lockdown has done,

Florida's hardest hit area was Miami / Dade County. It was one of the hardest hit areas in the country. Guess what ---- it's blue. So much for your politicized narrative.....

Which was my original strategy. The biggest issue is our nation's size, 330 million people. The peak will both be high and the fall will be very slow. Especially if they go back to lockdowns. Smaller nations will be able to attain immunity easier and will have less of a peak.

If we could easily identify all current covid holders at once, we could isolate them effectively and thereby contain the virus. Like if even asymptomatic bodies radiate heat differently from non-symptomatic and symptomatic bodies radiate differently from either of those two. If we could create something like that, it could change the game in our favor.

There were posters on PF who claimed as long as the lockdown saved one life that it would be worth it.

Well maybe, just maybe if the people protesting had believed that they were being listened to or that the protests were being taken seriously then it would not have been so widespread or so prolonged

I blame the media personally, stoking racial division at a time where we're dealing with a massive pandemic. I know that we in the US have a tradition, but I think we need to rethink the tradition to give them more skin in the game to report accurately.
