US intelligence officials assessed that Russia's military intelligence agency offered bounties to kill NATO troops in Afghanistan — which include American forces, according to a New York Times report.

Interrogations of Afghan militants and criminals reportedly yielded the information indicating that Taliban-linked militants were offered bounties from Russian agents, specifically Unit 29155, a branch of Russia's GRU military intelligence agency.

President Donald Trump was reportedly briefed of the intelligence assessment but the White House had yet to respond to it, The Times's sources said.

Funny, all those Republicans always claim Democrats are weak militarily.

Unfortuately this is what happens when you are tough on Russia and not running a policy of being more "flexible." As the article highlights this was largely done in because Trump lead a massive defeat of Putin in a battle in Syria,

It certainly will be interesting to see how this plays out.....

This sounds like something Russia could do, but I highly doubt Putin would have let his country's intelligence agency do something like that which would have strongly risked drawing America's ire.

The only way Russia might have done this is if it was responding to something else similar the US had recently done, in a sort of passive aggressive tit-for-tat, with an intentional message to the US administration pointing out their hypocrisy. Meaning, if Russia paid bounties to terrorists then it is likely the US had done so too.

That being said, I think we can be very skeptical about this report. This could just be part of the Russian hoax thing from the election.
Some of these intelligence agencies create fake reports for fake news.

FYI, USA and NATO went into Afghanistan in 2003, Obama wasn't POTUS, but feel free to shamelessly keep up the false accusations. Trump isn't cleaning up anything, he is tucking tail, and Al Qaeda and ISIS are still a threat !!!!

Nah Obama called it his war of necessity :https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2009-aug-18-na-obama-vfw18-story.html

They are, and Trump keeps taking out their leaders one by one....

but we are talking about Afghan....and Obama has already wasted millions and given up all of what Bush had gained....Trump now has to deal with Tailban which he is.....they aren't the threat the other two you mentioned are...

"It is OK if Putin put a price on your head, we don't care".

Real great "Military Leadership" by Capt. Bonespurs...:smh:

Bush took the effort off of Afghanistan for Iraq, Trump paid the Taliban to have a meeting, now the deal is dead, and seriously WTF are you suggesting that they are not a threat.

I am sure bounties are prevalent with all countries at odds with each other.

It is hilarious how you would credit the war in Afghanistan to Obama.

@Andrew Jackson Why are you not rushing in to discredit the source and chastize this being in "current events"?
