    Dam

That's a really great expanse of ocean, but it seems not to have counted for much

One question occurs though. If they were such great mariners why and how did they lose the skill so thoroughly that there is no trace of it in either people now? Admittedly 30,000 years is a long time indeed. (6x recorded history) but you'd think they'd still at least maybe live close to the seashore or something.

Blacks as great mariners or mariners at all period in prehistory is nowhere supported.

I've heard other grandiose notions come from the realm of geneticists. The problem is the science, I suppose. Scant evidence gives some new appearance, and geneticists rush to climb on board. Without any other evidence to support their notions, they declare game, set, match.

That's a pandora's box if ever there was one.

I was watching a video on this last week. They were trying to look at rock drawings and other things to discover whether this was a possibility. They found that it appeared that the ancient Aborigines had sea faring boats which would have allowed them to reach the Americas. They then found what I think they said was the earliest rock paintings in the world which were in South or central America which they believed came from the Aborigines. They were dated as considerably prior to the Indians arriving. Then of course they asked the question 'where are they now?'.

They believed that the Indians had arrived and had basically committed genocide on them. However they then made the proposition that generally when people feel in danger under a threat such as this they either mate with their conquerors for survival or find a safe place. They believed they moved to the Southern most Island (I think) as well as mating with some of the Indians - genetics supports that. Unfortunately these last people have been destroyed by the arrival of the white men giving them diseases and what not. It ended with the last 2 remaining women both in their seventies. From this and from the extra information they were able to gain, they looked at the rock paintings again and suggested they might have been describing the battles which happened after the Indians arrived. It was certainly convincing. I did a search and there are several accounts of this - I think the earliest I saw was from 2009. I suppose it is possible that some of them got on their boats and headed to Australia ;)

Here is the video. They idea of them having sea faring boats comes from a picture of one in their caves in Australia which is apparently the earliest picture of a sea faring boat in the world.

They didn't need to be 'great' mariners, just passably decent ones. Given that the first humans hit Australia 60,000+ years ago and the first humans hit the Americas between 20,000 & 40,000 years ago there is no reason why groups could not have diverged before they even got to Australia. One keeps heading down Indonesia toward Australia, the other works its way up through Asia & eventually across to the Americas.

That would have required some ability with boats, but not at the level needed to get across the Pacific. Of course, later maritime peoples did get from this side of the Pacific as far as Easter island & Hawaii (and possibly further in smaller numbers), so that is not impossible, just less likely.

As for losing maritime skills - perhaps they were no longer required once groups became settled on a land mass like Australia. Other skills may have been more important. It really is impossible to imagine how people might change over tens of thousands of years.

Kon-Tiki notwithstanding you don't just cling to some driftwood over 5000 miles of open ocean, they had to have some idea of what they were doing. Though I guess it was a VERY long time ago after all.

It always startles me how the most primitive peoples have the longest histories. Aborigines know they came to Australia from somewhere else and that's been 40 millennia gone.

Well they sure did a heck of a good job at travelling round the world before 'white people' managed to do anything - never mind the reality that the first homo sapiens in Europe were black. Why do you think colour of skin makes such a difference?

    This is fiction. ^^^

Baloney to the first 4 minutes, summed up contrarily (but truthfully) by the narrator with "Indians were the obvious ones (to have settled here)."

The rest is unsupported, fanciful reinvention of facts and events for the purpose of fabricating black history.

Any race mixing came after the Spanish arrived with black slaves, some of whom escaped and ended up living with Indian natives. No maybes about it. That's what happened.

The first inhabitants of Europe were black. However your position is clear. Race mixing such at Stormfront term.

Note how you are totally incapable of arguing anything. Just give insults. Soooo scary for you to believe that anyone coloured black would be capable of anything whereas go back not all that long, and that is almost certainly your ancestors.

So sad when people's self esteem is so low they make imaginings of being better than others just because of their colour but I never signed on at Stormfront so not much point in more discussion with you.

That notion is based on a few bones found in the african desert by the Leakeys. The first Europeans were not black except by fact that bones found in africa are far better preserved due to the dry African savanna than in the humid conditions of Europe.

I would point out that media sensationalism of that time is the main reason for the notion that man came out of africa. As with evolution, all evidence to the contrary was thereafter suppressed because it took away from a "great story", a terrible habit we see at play in the media today.

Are you calling me a racist? I am not, but I am honest.

Just because it (probably) happened doesn't mean it must have been easy or common, much like the Vikings who are believed to have reached North America.

You're assuming they didn't because the image you have of "Australian Aborigine" is the ones we all see depicted living in the bush-land of central Australia. The Australian Aborigines were (and are) much more diverse and widespread groups of people, including those living on coasts and islands. It's also worth noting that the research being referenced involved peoples from across the South Pacific, not just the Australian mainland (hint: don't rely on tabloid trash for scientific detail :) ).

There is plenty of maritime history of the peoples across the South Pacific, it just developed in a different direction to European maritime history due to different needs and motives and, in part because of that, doesn't get anything like as much attention in Western education or culture.

It was not uncommon for frontiersmen to walk thirty miles in a day over rough ground hunting their food and cooking en route, carrying a rifle, their shelter, bedroll, wool blankets and daily needs. Without rest days that'd be 11,000 miles a year. But nobody could hold that pace.

I can see you have done no higher study and do not understand the research which was done to come to this concusion as well as, from what you have said, not watching the video,
They most certainly were black. Again not keeping up. Just living by your imagination and prejudice gets you nowhere.

    https://www.ndtv.com/offbeat/this-is-how-europeans-looked-7-000-years-ago-548938

The first 'man' found in the UK was also as has recent research of the first people in Denmark. Research I listened to a few years ago suggested Europeans have only been white for around 5,000 years. I suspect you may have believed they got their colour from mating with Neanderthals.

But darling other people know how to study and get research. You only go by your prejudices.

Of course I am not calling you a racist. That is against forum rules. However I did some years ago spend a few years lurking on Stormfront, I would say your turn of phrase reminded me of there. I know at that time they were talking about infiltrating other sites.

I am sure you believe you are. However that you claim what you say is true just by bad naming academics and research suggest you could be deluded.

What pace? One millenium is 1,000 years. Millenia is some unspecified multiple of that.

True that, so I leave that nasty habit to you.
What greater proof than BLM do you need that black hubris must be eliminated. Period. That's not racism either. It's simple common sense.

I have actually visited that website once in the last 15 years. I couldn't see what all the fuss was about though. I think some snowflake simply saw the header and cried "Klan!", and it stuck. Stormfront is actually less racist than some black panther sites.

I remember a book I read, "The Birth of the Modern" where they said it was not uncommon for members of even the upper classes to walk 40 miles in a day, to see people they knew or sometimes just to appreciate nature, which they were just starting to see as a form of recreation at that time. We humans are very mobile creatures just by ourselves, it seems.
