"My view is that permanent change can not come through political laws and
through the “political process." It is impossible to solve human problems apart
from the supernatural power of God Almighty, and His Son the Lord Jesus,
and the power of the Holy Spirit."

That's an odd view in light of the fact that we solve our problems by means entirely other than an imaginary god and its imaginary demigod son.

    "we solve our problems"___Durandal
    That is not entirely true.
First thank you for reading my article.
    And thanks for your comment.
    Back to "our problems" , , ,
The main problem we all have is looming Death.

You're not going to solve that one.

If you die a natural Death and live to be 90
and if you are now age 60, then you have a mere
360 months left to live. If age 70 then you have only
    240 months left to live.

Science, Empiricism, and Rationalism are not going
to "be there for you" when you lay dying on your
Death Bed and your Doctor shakes his head and
walks away. What are you going to do then? To solve
your problem of Death? Don't you want to keep on living?
Does not the thoughts of never being able to use your
mind again, make you sad? Never being able to enjoy
food, sunsets, warm beaches, books, movies, restaurants?
Doesn't that make you sad and unhappy to believe that all
that you love will end forever?

If anything will solve the "problem" of mortality, it will be science. Wishful thinking about an afterlife isn't changing anything objectively. Whether you lie dying with thoughts of going to an afterlife or acknowledging that you are entering the unknown, it's going to be the same thing either way - you will die. The end.

It will not be the end.
    * See "The Solution To The Problem Of Death" Bolded red.
    * It requires supernatural power to defeat Death.
*Science does not, and cannot, deal in the supernatural.
    * A shortie below , , , interesting.
    ____________

    The Death Of Lazarus:
"On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been
in the tomb for four days.

Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem,
and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort
them in the loss of their brother.

When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out
to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.

“Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my
    brother would not have died.

But I know that even now God will give you whatever
    you ask.”

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the
    resurrection at the last day.”

    {The Solution To The Problem Of Death}
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.
The one who believes in me will live, even though
they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will
    never die.

    Do you believe this?”

“Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the
Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the
    world.” John 11: 17-27

    * I'm glad you have an amazing life.
    * It doesn't have to ever come to an End.
    * There is supernatural power available.
    to give you Eternal Life.

Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead
"Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb.

It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.
“Take away the stone, ”he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man,
“by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there
    four days.”

Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe,
you will see the glory of God?”

So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and
said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew
that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of
the people standing here, that they may believe that you
    sent me.”

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice,
“Lazarus, come out!”The dead man came out, his hands
and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around
    his face.

Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him
    go.” John 11:38- 43

    * Death is not the End.

    * Here is a magnificent quote from
    The Lord Of The Rings. { J.R.R. Tolkien }

    * It is Gandalf's short speech to Pippin.

    * They were under attack and it looked like they
would be killed at any moment -- they were
facing Death, and Pippin said , , ,

“PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.

GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here.
Death is just another path, one that we all must take.
The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all
turns to silver glass, and then you see it.

    PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?

GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green
    country under a swift sunrise.

PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.

    GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.”

If only you could prove it! Unfortunately for you there are many people who have offered eternal life and not one, anywhere, ever has been able to show it.They are all liars, snake oil salesmen, ignorant or fools If you think you can be the first person in history to show there is eternal life be my guest.

    * Christianity is a Faith.
    * It advances in the world supernaturally.
    * The supernatural cannot be measured with Empiricism.
    * Hebrews 11:6 below is the path to Faith, which will then
lead to John 3:16 and Eternal Life.
    ______

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because
anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists
and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
    Hebrews 11:6

Bible stories have no authoritative quality. They're stories. You might as well cite Lord of the Rings. All this stuff about Lazarus and Jesus demonstrates is my point about wishful thinking, i.e. Christians wishfully thinking that there will be a "supernatural" resurrection of the dead because they were promised it in a book written by people who also condoned slavery and thought the earth was flat and was created in six days.

    * I understand your position.
*Thanks for reading my stuff. I appreciate that.

    * Explanations:

    ■ Many Christians post what they post because we
believe that the Holy Spirit works through the truths
of what you call "stories" to reach the hearts and
    minds of readers.

    ■ The stories are at least to some extent interesting.
You can give them your own interpretation.

    ■ Many people have been converted to Christianity
    by reading such "stories."

    ■ The purpose of a Forum is to keep the conversation
going. Atheists don't seem to spend much time talking
to one another in the Religion Forum ,like they do in
the Political Forum --- so you can at least make your
points against what I post that you don't agree with.
You probably enjoy doing that, don't you?

    __________

    Regarding slavery:

It was the Christian North that fought a bloody Civil War,
in part, to end slavery in the United States -- ie. part of
their motive for fighting that war was to end slavery
in America. Lincoln wanted to keep the Union together
AND end slavery. And he did both.

It was the Non-Christian African chefs that rounded
up their own people {mostly enemy tribes} and sold
them to the slave traders waiting to $$ purchase $$
them on the coasts of Africa.

By the way, the New Testament condemns slavery.
    Consider this passage:

"We know that the law is good if one uses it properly.
We also know that the law is made not for the righteous
but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful,
the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers
or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral,
for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and
liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary
to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel
concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he
    entrusted to m"___1 Timothy 1: 8-11

Note that "slave traders" are listed in with the following:
    a} lawbreakers
    b} rebels
    c} the ungodly
    d} sinful
    e} the unholy
    f} the irreligious
g} those who kill their fathers
h} those who kill their mothers
    i} for murderers
    j} those practicing homosexuality
    k} for slave traders
    l] liars
    m] perjuries
n} whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine

    So?

So the New Testament list "slave traders" in with
some of the worst sins known to mankind.

The oversoul is immortal. Reincarnation as an earthly being addresses the problems cited above. The present individual aka avatar is a relatively ephemeral one-time phenomenon. The oversoul is a composite of the essences of lifetimes. Contemplation of such concepts tends to be suppressed by confinement to the beliefs and scriptural sources of orthodox Western religions. IAW the mind gets trapped.

And there is the deceit, you offer eternal life and the TRUTH is you do not have a clue whether such a thing exists at all, it really is too funny how you think people will be fooled by your offers of goods you do not have or even know if they can be obtained. This is why so many are called snake oil salesmen.

Faith. Religious faith is an unsupported assertion of an impossible conclusion assumed with unreasonable conviction. Aron Ra

    Here is a heart-warming sinner's prayer:

"God our Father, I believe that out of Your infinite love You have
created me. In a thousand ways I have shunned Your love.

I repent of each and every one of my sins.

    Please forgive me.

Thank You for sending Your Son to die for me, to save me from
    eternal death.

I choose this day to place the Lord Jesus at the center of my heart.
I surrender to Him as Lord over my whole life.

.I ask You now to flood my soul with the gift of the Holy Spirit so
that my life may be transformed. Give me the grace and courage
to live as a disciple in Your Church for the rest of my days. In
    Jesus name I pray Amen."
