New Ivanka Trump initiative tells out-of-work Americans to 'find something new'

(CNN)Four months before the presidential election, Ivanka Trump, adviser to her father President Donald Trump, is promoting a new ad campaign dubbed, "Find Something New."

Aimed at helping unemployed Americans find new careers, the initiative launched Tuesday with a virtual roundtable hosted at the White House featuring Ivanka Trump and business leaders, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, and a reveal of one of the ads, a 30-second spot with a handful of people telling their employment stories.

"Find Something New" was swiftly criticized on social media, most vociferously for its title, which can be interpreted as too simplistic a catchphrase to describe the unemployment meltdown happening for millions of Americans as a global pandemic continues to ravage physical and financial health.

I took a look at the site. It's a sad lickle joke. The "intensive programs" consist purely of a handful of programming-related programs with links to various online academies, it's essentially just a place to steer people to existing online schools. Far from any kind of useful government program or initiative.

Great advice don't you think? Never been a better time with more opportunities. Maybe some can get into the construction field and rebuild the parts of Minneapolis and St. Paul that were destroyed over what you think were peaceful protests.
As for triggering lefties over anything that Ivanka says, that's a given. Many cannot deal with the sun coming up let alone someone telling them to get a job.

This does fly in the face of Trump's message that all of those jobs are going to come roaring back better than ever, no? Basically she is telling everyone to just "move on."

 

Y'know, I'm pretty sure we've heard this story before, last year, maybe the year before that - I know there was a thread about it. Except it was a democrat saying that being unemployed is a great thing because you get to read or go back to school. Something like that.

 

She should have just said "learn to code" so as not to "offend" the left.

 

She should have set up something worthwhile instead of insulting those who are struggling

There are plenty of these job opportunity site and services. A cursory look at the jobs, all need some type of education. These sites and services are helpful for the early career changes or the ones beginning the workforce.

 

Yeah I don’t get this. Education is great but maybe don’t focus so much on jobs? There are lots of things that we can be doing, not just jobs that are important. Or change the title to something focuses specifically on jobs. I’m sorry but I’m on the side of it’s a bad title. I like the idea, but it’s not being communicated properly.

As a father to a daughter, only one of those photos seems even a little strange... bottom middle even then from my perspective its grabbing straws. I hug my daughter and she from time to time gives me kisses on the cheek is that bad?

Everyone should actually visit the website. It gives a variety of suggestions and information, from online learning to technical trades to "intensive programs" to certifications, and gives information about in-demand jobs in a variety of fields from aerospace engineer to electrician to wind turbine technician. It has information for new job seekers, and for those looking to switch fields.

Anyone triggered by this website ---- that's more of a reflection on how politicized and negative you are, than on this initiative. Get over yourself.

 

Soooooooo . . . about six months ago Biden should not have laughed at out of work coal miners and told them to learn how to code? Asking for a bunch of friends.

 

if you got a degree in womens and gender studies and lost your job at the yoga studio because of covid maybe its time to find something new to do. maybe something useful.

 

I find it funny how libs look down on blue collar jobs. My AC guy owns his own small business and makes an absolute killing. Hell one of my other friends has become a millionaire washing cars, boats, planes, etc... Dude used to be a waiter!
