It has restarted. My Carolina Hurricanes won today their first game against the Rangers, 3-2. I am incredibly irritated with the fact that the broadcast was blacked out for North Carolina, which makes absolutely no sense.

Black-outs make sense in the local market to stimulate fans to buy tickets and attend the game in person... But the games are being played in Canada with no public, and are only on TV now, so what the hell is the point in blacking out the game exactly for the population that would be most interested in watching, that is, the home market for the teams???

I was frantically trying to find a way of streaming it, and after several unsuccessful attempts, found one (using a VPN to stream online, which didn't work from various serves but then finally worked for one of them)... right after the game ended, so I missed the whole thing.

I hope TV executives and NHL executives realize that blacking out these games for the local markets makes no sense whatsoever and will significantly decrease viewership and their profits. What a boneheaded move!!!

Anyway, at least we won. Any comments on how your teams are doing? Are you encountering the same black-out problem? If yes, what are the solutions you're finding?

Oh wow, seems like there is NOBODY here who follows the NHL, too bad. My team won the second game too (which again I couldn't see) but it seems like the third game tonight won't be blacked out after all, maybe they've finally woke up to how stupid a black out is when there is no public at the arena. If we win tonight this first series is over.

All play-in series ended in 3 or 4 games (my Hurricanes being the only team that eliminated the opponents in only 3 games), except one, Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Columbus Blue Jackets. Game four, Columbus leading 2 to 1 in the series so a victory would eliminate Toronto. 3 minutes and 57 seconds before the end the Blue Jackets were leading 3-0 so it looked like they had everything wrapped up, right? Think again. In less than 3 minutes Toronto scored 3 goals and sent the game to OT, and then won with an OT power-play goal.

So tomorrow at 8 PM these teams play game 5 for the last play-off spot. Exciting. I'll be rooting for Toronto just for the feel-good story of this coming-from-behind effort.

DIE HARD HURRICANES FAN HERE! Sorry had to scream that because there aren't much of us that live outside of the state (I lived in NC for a while but have since moved- originally from Massachusetts).

Our boy Sebs is on fire. Great coaching too in the Rangers series.

Oh and by the way, you can just stream the games and use your HDMI chord if you have one, plug it into your TV from your laptop, and boom- hurricanes games! That's what I do

Hi, fellow Hurricanes fan! Let's Go Canes!
Yes, Rod is a great coach. I attended in person the game when he lifted the Stanley Cup. I'm very happy to have him as our coach.
Yes, Sebs is on fire for sure! He can be rightfully called one of the best players in the entire league, now.
I was able to stream the game but after lots of attempts with a VPN until I was able to simulate my presence in another state that wasn't blacked out, because the games are being blacked out to the entire North Carolina (where I live) which makes no sense whatsoever since there are no ticket sales. I wonder if some broadcaster for some paid channel bought the rights but I don't even know which one, because all that I see in the press is that the games are supposed to air on NBC Sports which I do subscribe to, but it shows as Unavailable Programming Blacked Out For Your Area. Streaming is fine if I'm home to watch the game but if I'm at work I can record on DVR to watch later. Annoying.

Rod is my hero. I met him! My hockey team (it was a travel team in Raleigh) got invited to celebrate our state title at Arturs Irbe's house decades ago. I mimicked my jersey tuck from Roddy B!

Nice! I'd have liked to meet him. Great guy.
So next we'll get the loser of Washington vs. Boston. Washington currently leading 1-0. I hate Boston... annoying fans. I kind of hope we get them, and then beat them.
By the way I just realized that ESPN+ has all the games on replay, on demand, and I do subscribe to ESPN+, so, I guess the issue of recording and watching when I can't watch it live is solved.

I am originally from Massachusetts and i HATE the bruins. The only new england team I don't support. I love my CANES!

I would love to see us play them. My only issue is that Boston's coaching is great against top lines. It will be a chess match for sure. I think the Canes would match up better against Washington but I could be wrong.

Well I guess I'll root for the Bruins to come from behind and beat Washington so that we get them, instead, if they are a better match-up for us. It's weird to root for the Bruins, though, LOL.

Either one will be a tough test. The Canes and the 1st two lines need to play high speed against either team.

OK, we got the Bruins. I watched their game against the Capitals and they didn't play well. In their entire Round Robin they scored only 4 goals. So I'm feeling good about it, although one never knows. Remember how the Ranges got excited because they got us and thought they had our number, having won all 4 regular season games against us? Well, they got shellacked and humiliated as the only team in the qualifiers that got eliminated in a 3-game sweep.

Vegas Golden Knights are still alive for the Stanley Cup. I remember they got into the playoffs in their first year of existence. No other sports pro team ever did that, Were there any that did it?

No, there's been others. The Vegas Golden Knights of course did very well, reaching the Stanley Cup Finals in their first season, ultimately losing to the Capitals. But two other teams did it before them (that is, reaching the Finals): the Toronto Arenas in 1918 and the St. Louis Blues in 1968. The Golden Knights did beat the record of most post-season wins in their first expansion season, winning 13 games, and snatching the 12 games record held by the Florida Panthers since 1996.

That was incredible except that it made my team's game be postponed to a day and time when I wasn't able to watch. And we lost in 2OT. But tonight we won in regulation 3-2, so Carolina (my team) is tied 1-1 with Boston. Great game tonight in 2nd and 3rd periods, very intense and suspenseful.

Officiating has been suspiciously against the Canes, this series. Another disallowed goal today. And Boston scored out of a power play that was called for a very questionable penalty.

My Canes crashed out of the playoffs, losing the series to Boston 4-1. Sad.
I can't complain; the Bruins deserved it. They're just a better team than we are.

Thanks. I hope it won't say that I can't watch because I'm not in Europe. We'll see, next time that there is a blackout.
