I’m curious about who still practices their faith.

SOme because that is what they are raised and they never bother to question. Others discover it over time and question until they have a relationship with their deity.

For me, while I had a base line growing up, I had a point where I lost my faith, another where I found it again, and then over time refined it beyond any given Church. I no longer claim any denomination. I am simply Christian, and my faith was developed and grown between God and I.

I believe that all or most faith and religion stem from one true source. However, I do not believe that there is any one true path there. A loving God provides for multiple paths for coming home. However, man has corrupted all teachings, and Guidance is needed to discern the message that remains, although less obvious.

My Catholic father told me that Jewish Rabbis would get a standing room only in heaven. Otherwise, Catholics only, I'm afraid.

    My skeptical started pretty young.

I grew up Baptist but was told Jewish people get a get into heaven free card cause they are God’s chosen people.

The Mormons ever faithful to as much bigotry as they can get away with told me that when Jesus said “Forgive them for they know not what they do” during His crucifixion, he was referring to the Romans and not the Jews because the Jews killed the Son of God!

Also the Nazi excuse (who were not even Christians) but that’s a whole other story.

Most Atheists will eventually admit, when pressed, to being technically agnostic, with a tacit admission that they find it (and I paraphrase a few of them) 'absurdly unlikely that a god exists, though it is technically a mathematically insignificant but still technically existant possibility. But only technically.'

Most of the rest will double down on how certain they are that science proves there is no god, while at the same time making it clear how much they hate this god that scientifically doesnt exist.

These are antitheists masquerading as atheists.

Atheists do spend a lot of energy fighting an entity that doesn’t exist to them.
They will say that it is because they are fighting institutional political structures that excuse religious overreach but I’ve never seen an atheist challenge any faith other than Christianity even in areas where Christianity is the minority held faith and the other faith is practicing their faith in public buildings.

For me agnosticism frees up a lot of time.
When approached by a religious person asking if I believe Jesus is the son of God or if I believe there is no God but Allah and Mohammed is his messenger, I can just shrug and say I don’t know. Then I can ask them who their favorite porn star is.

There used to be some here at PF that were 'equal opportunity god bashers' toward all religions. They were refreshing.

    ...dunno where they went.

Islam is specifically protected from denigration in many European countries. People are literally being arrested for this. Perhaps people on here feel that speaking badly of it will lead to at least bad social consequences.

I recomend introducing prosyltizers to the 'Ancient Aliens' theory that all the gods throughout history were actually highly advanced aliens that came to earth in the distant past.

In my experience they lose all interest in you.

When proselytized, I feel like I want to offer evangelical Christians a beer (this offends them to no end) and I want to offer Muslims a big chunk of pork. :)

LOL I offered some Mormons beers once. They paused, looking at eachother, and very depressedly said 'we can't.'

Good thing too, because it ocurred to me later that thats something they frequently do before they're old enough to legally drink...

With Mormons you have lots of choices to offend. Any caffeinated beverage or cigarettes or alcohol, swearing, suggesting they use even grape juice in their sacraments instead of water, talking to a female missionary who is unaccompanied. Those are just a few.

Have you ever gone to a Pagan Pride event? You'll find both fundies and atheists there telling the pagans they're wrong.

I'm Baptist, but the moniker can mean a liberal focus on "social justice" for one church with scant Biblical focus or another Bapist church whose world view is shaped through the understanding of the Bible as timeless truth. So the term "baptist" is rather fluid.

The Bible doesnt teach that Jews go to heaven because they are chosen. But that God is with them on this earth and they are a part of Gods plan.

Its fascinating that even when scattered across the world through thousands of years the jews have a strong, supernatural thread that keeps them together and cohesive as a people....whether they be atheist, practice Judaism, christian, ...or whatever. They are an ancient people that thrive, kept their heritage and have out lasted the much more technologically advanced peoples of the ancient world who have long ago disappeared as a distinct people and nation.

The Bible does not teach that Jews have a super highway to Heaven but my church did. The Baptists as you note are probably the most diverse of the Protestant denominations. MLK to southern baptist sects that to this day are supportive of Slavery. The Mormons are more uniform in their beliefs, still virtually worshiping Brigham Young who fought abolition tooth and nail and only relented on segregation in 1978 when their tax exempt status was challenged. Convenient revelation to the Prophet (what a coincidence).

I dont know much about Mormans but yeah term Baptists can mean anything. My Southern Baptist church is Bible believing so it's a good fit for me.

Back in the 40s-50s my mother was taken to a large Southern Baptist Church by her devout parents. What divides her from God now..is because of that church...which was very white and wouldn't allow blacks to attend. She distinctly remembers that a girl scout troop visiting from the north wanted to attend church while in the city. They did not allow them in because one of the girls was black.

That was terrible and not Godly. Billy Graham did so much to set people straight down south.

Southern Baptist Association officially apologized for their actions...for recent past and long past sins against God, but much damage was done.

    That’s good.
I grew up in the GARBC which was the most reasonable of the Baptist sub denominations.
The Mormons specifically refuse to apologize for Young’s support of the confederacy, for his stand on Slavery (blacks are marked by God to be the servant of servants) or for the mountain meadows massacre in which 130 men women and children were systematically murdered by the church during passage through Utah. The latter for fear of litigation that could impact church finances. LDS acts more like an international corporation than a church. To call it a cult is a libel on the word cult!

That hasn't happened to me in almost 20 years. I was not assaulted*, but something similar, on a Sunday, in a Target parking lot, because I was shopping, instead of at church.

*dude ran over to me as if he were going to attack me, so I had to run, and that's when he screamed at me. Very odd encounter.

    I’m sorry that happened.
I have never been proselytized by a Jew, Hindu or Buddhist so I think more of their faith.
I have been proselytized by Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons and wandering nutty Christians and Muslims so I think less of their faith.

Well, we do get the random 21 year old Mormon missionaries ringing the doorbell from time to time. Same with Christians and JW's. I guess I forget about those. They are less traumatic.

"Thanks, no, we're good here, have a nice day. Buh bye, now!"

Yes, those happen. About once/year or so. I doubt it will happen again, because Ring is awesome!

I had a friend who had JW people come to her door with their watchtower literature and she said she wouldn’t discuss it unless they came inside and they of course refused citing their safety and hers. She started screaming that she wanted them IN! That was the last time she was ever visited. :) I miss her. She was fun!

Yes sir! Proper investment was stated in one of Jesus parables if the talents. As we see now with this pandemic, the Church prepared itself for the loss of tithes and offerings from those now out of work and needing Church welfare assistance all around the world. Thank God for His true Prophets and Apostles.

The Bible itself plainly says that the Jews killed Jesus. Do you disagree with the biblical story? It is in all of the versions of the Bible.

Jesus was tried by the Romans and executed by the Romans.
