Well, now that the democrat convention has concluded exactly what is their platform. Here's just a number of planks in the over 90 page platform. And just how do they plan on ending poverty you ask. Well they can't let go of the never-ending "war on poverty" started by President Johnson back in the '60's. Their step-by-step solution is listed in detail.

    Ending poverty

Guaranteeing a secure and dignified retirement

Eliminating racial, gender, and geographic health inequities

Protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning, health

    Ending violence against women

Ending the epidemic of gun violence

    Climate change

    .

    Ending Poverty

--Democrats remain committed to ending poverty and enabling all Americans to live up to their God-given potential. We recognize that the official poverty rate, as measured and communicated by the federal government, fails to capture critical needs like housing, education, health care, transportation, energy, and other necessities, and therefore understates the true share of Americans living in poverty. We will support the 10-20-30 funding approach, to direct at least 10 23 percent of federal funding to communities where 20 percent or more of the population has been living below the poverty line for 30 years or longer. Directing more federal investment to the communities most in need will help create jobs; improve and expand housing; modernize and expand transportation, clean water, wastewater, energy, and broadband infrastructure; and promote shared prosperity.

--We will raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and guarantee equal pay for women, two measures that in combination will pull millions of families out of poverty. We will make it easier for working families to benefit from targeted tax breaks, including the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit, which too often go unclaimed by the lowest-income tax filers. We will significantly expand affordable housing and build new public housing for the first time since the 1990s, and guarantee Section 8 benefits to all who qualify—all of which will help reduce housing costs and increase housing availability for low-income families.

--Democrats believe health care is a human right. We will incentivize states to expand Medicaid and enroll low-income people who do not otherwise have health insurance in a new, high-quality public option without premiums. We will double investments in community health centers and rural health centers, and expand mobile health units, to make it easier for low-income people to access health care.

--In the wealthiest country on earth, it is a moral abomination that any child could ever go to bed hungry. Democrats will increase funding for food assistance programs, including SNAP, WIC, and school meals. We will also remove barriers that keep the formerly incarcerated from accessing food assistance. ---Cuts to the Legal Services Corporation have imperiled access to justice in civil court for low-income defendants and litigants alike in matters concerning access to public benefits and housing, eviction proceedings, and custodial cases. Democrats will significantly increase investment in the Legal Services Corporation to ensure those who cannot afford private representation can nevertheless equitably access the civil justice system and have their day in court.

--Democrats will provide substantially higher levels of support for programs and institutions that boost economic development in America’s most impoverished communities, including by doubling funding for CDFIs, expanding the Community Development Block Grant, increasing the number of Rural Business Investment Companies, and expanding and making permanent the New Markets Tax Credit.

--One in four American households are either unbanked or underbanked, putting them at risk of losing money due to exorbitant fees or usurious interest rates. Democrats will support and encourage efforts in Congress to guarantee affordable, transparent, and trustworthy banking services that are language-accessible for low- and middle-income families, including bank accounts and real-time payment systems through the Federal Reserve and easily accessible service locations, like postal banking.

Health care isn't a right. It cannot possibly be a right. The government cannot provide that right in principle to everyone. You cannot guarantee the "right" to a good or service, without forcing someone to provide it, and we outlawed slavery a long time ago.

It will be interesting to contrast this with... whatever comes out of the "Republican Convention".

My bet is a lot of racist rhetoric, much of it by indicted criminals (and non-indicted co-conspirators), and nothing that would address the real problems in this country. Except denying that they exist, of course.

Boatloads of racism for sure. But only because the word has been redefined by the left.

OT: Dare I say many of the country's problems would solve themselves if the government would get out of the way of the people who can solve them.

How else do you expect them to justify their jobs and salaries and votes on pay raises? /sarcasm

Nobody. That's the point. As we saw when Obamacare rolled out, and adjustments were made to cut Medicare reimbursement to health care providers to help pay for it, doctors stopped taking medicare. In fact, my wife's doctor simply shut down his practice to medicare recipients, with a sign on his door that said "We cannot operate this office at a loss. As such, we will no longer accept Medicare."

So, if all the doctors quit, because they can't make a living, how is the government going to then provide and guarantee this "right", lol?

    Ergo, it's NOT a right.

Where have you been? Trump's mishandling of the virus and economy already makes that a reality.

The last Republican president that left the economy in good shape was Reagan in 1988. It's beyond hypocritical for any Trumpist to criticize Democrats on the economy.

    That makes no sense.

The basic rights outlined in the Constitution are negative rights - in other words, they restrict the government. The GOVERNMENT cannot take away your life.
You don't have a right to treatment because of an illness the government didn't cause.

Let me see if I understand you are opposed to government healthcare because you feel it will reduce your government healthcare?

Yes it can, if you don't have the right to things that are nessary to live then the "right to life" is meaningless.

No, it's not meaningless. It means that the GOVERNMENT cannot take away your life without due process.
It has nothing to do with guaranteeing someone lives without food or air.

If the democrats during their convention mentioned the riots, burning, and looting in major cities I missed it. Seems they ignored it. I would rather see them support law and order than climate change. And their plank to end "the epidemic of gun violence" means they want to outlaw guns. And most sane people know who will have guns when guns are outlawed.

Still peddling the fear of Zimbabwe and Venezuela? When Trump is done, the king of debt will have blown everyone else out of the water with respect to the deficit. And then, he'll pay creditors cents to the dollar of debt, as he has proposed. And where is the Tea party now? Nowhere to be sees. Hypocrites, all of them.

And Republicans blew a hole in the deficit with the tax cuts.

Democrats are known for big spending. The issue is that the Republicans have been doing the same or worse for decades. Where are the fiscal conservatives?

I'm planning a game for the RNC convention. Every time Hunter Biden is mentioned, I'll take a hit off the vape. The first time Kamala Harris' citizenship is questioned, I'll chug whatever is still left in my beer bottle.

    Anyone else in?

Tax revenue went up with the tax cuts. We don't have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem.
