This one will be bad. The man was unarmed walking away from 3 officers. One grabbed him and shot him at least 6 times in the back.

The black mark on the ground in front of the door? It doesn't move and no one is paying it any attention before or after the shooting. What makes you think it looks like a gun?

I don't know what it is, so I'm asking. If it is a gun, then maybe that's why the cops shot him.

It's a tough time to be a cop. Many people, especially blacks, are openly hostile towards them and have even called for their deaths. The cops know this and they can also see what's happening around the country. So the police are wary for their safety and if they let the perp make the first move it could cost them their lives. If they make the left ruins them.

It's been said before, but if you want to eliminate the alleged racism in police shootings, then put black cops in black neighborhoods, white cops in white neighborhoods, and so on.

As for the shoot, he was fleeing at best, or reaching for a weapon at worst.

Once again, non compliance with police orders. That is why this guy is dead. Who knows what was in the car? It would have taken a split second for him to grab a gun and fire on the officers.

 

I think if the comments in this thread tell us anything, it is that there is an expectation in the US for the police to use lethal force when individuals do not obey orders. The culture of America doesn't see police officers as government employees whose job is to serve and protect the public, and to deescalate the situations they are called into, but instead the American culture sees the police as government employees who you are expected to obey or suffer the consequences. The consequences being full lethal force (although it does seem that this particular individual will survive

It's an authoritarian standard, the justification for lethal force shouldn't be a matter of whether or not the individual was complying to authority, it should be a matter of whether or not lethal force was used as a means of preventing an innocent person from being harmed. For this particular incident I'm going to hold off on giving any further opinion until I hear more information for why this individual was perceived as a threat by police. It seems the police were called in relation to a domestic incident, though it is unclear what exactly that incident was, or if the individual who was shot was involved in said incident
