I’m curious about who still practices their faith.

According to the gospel accounts, Jewish authorities in Roman Judea charged Jesus with blasphemy and sought his execution, but lacked the authority to have Jesus put to death (John 18:31), so they brought Jesus to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of the province, who authorized Jesus' execution (John 19:16).

That sounds right and the Romans were very skittish about any type of insurrection at that time of the year so crucifixion was more common.

Still I would have thought that the Jewish leaders there could have stoned him.

Without the full backing of the Sanhedrin, a high priest (Caiaphas) did not have the power to single-handedly order a man’s death. His only other option was to refer the whole matter to the local Roman government.

I bow to what is clearly your better understanding of ancient Jewish law.
But in any case the Romans killed Him.
The Mormons claim that Jesus was asking for forgiveness for the Romans alone. But they tend to be a bit anti Semitic.

They paint with a broad brush.
    Collectively it wasn't the Jews.

The Roman soldiers were simply obeying orders. They did not have an emotional stake in the proceedings and the onlookers probably had no idea who Jesus was.

Did his forgiveness extend to the Temple aristocracy? Good question, they were the ones that persecuted him.

Do you think that the treatment of the Jews in Europe culminating in the Holocaust was divinely ordained? Was it God’s punishment?

I am unaware of any country, with the possible exception of North Korea, where Christians are executed. Even ISIS tolerated practicing Christians if they paid a tax.

I do not. If any Christians think that way they are a few isolated cranks. Jerry Falwell described Jews as "God's People."

I was raised as an Episcopalian. Now I am an Anglican. Anglicans are traditional Episcopalians who use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. I have never encountered bullying, or any kind of aggression among Episcopalians and Anglicans.

Don’t think much of Falwell but I was taught that Jewish people will go straight to heaven simply because they are Jewish. Nothing in the Bible to support this however although God did say whoever blesses the Jews He will bless.

It should be noted that the Vatican never criticized the fascists for their treatment of Jewish people or anything else they did for that matter.

I have never attended these churches but my especial dislike for the Baptists and Mormons stems from their support of the institution of slavery as God’s intended use of the black race as the curse of Ham or Cain respectively.

Hell, I had a Mormon Bishop justify not only this but even the Mountain Meadows massacre and these were all white people!

Blacks were not allowed in the priesthood until 1978 when there were worries that the federal government would remove their tax exempt status if they continued that practice.

Still it is America’s most respected cult.

one of the best things Jews could have done for themselves is take over what is now called Israel

this allowed them to get the protection from Christians, because they have a prophecy to fulfill

now if they ever fulfill that prophecy, then all bets are off, so they would be best served never to fulfill that prophecy

almost overnight perception changed from Jews killed Jesus, to Jews will fulfill the prophecy

I don’t know but the Mormons were adamant that the asking for forgiveness extended only to the Romans.
Come to think about it, I never met a single Jewish person in any Mormon meeting house.

Israel is the only place they felt safe. Unfortunately there were already people living there who lost their property. Would have been better to give them a strip of Germany through Austria as reparations for the Holocaust but that’s all too late now.

I would have preferred America took them in - but I agree the Jews living in Israel does come with risk too, they have to act like they are going to fulfill the prophecy, which makes Christians happy, but Muslims not happy - my guess is they will never fulfill it, but they can't say that publicly

By returning to Israel, I guess they fulfilled one prophecy. Rebuilding the Temple would be another but that would be a world shaker that would follow up with an invasion from the north that would require them burying the dead for 6 months according to the prophecies. Then Armageddon so the prophecies are all pretty bleak from here on out. I stopped thinking about it.

Define "take over", because Israel was (re)created and given to the Jews as compensation for their treatment during WWII by the UN.

I was brought out of Atheism by Evangelist Garner Ted Armstrong and I attended his dad's church, The Worldwide Church of God until 1991. Since I met my wife in 2001 I attend any church that she wants to go to..... I am not overly fussy since separating from the WWCG.

Once we move to near Toronto I may attempt to connect with a synagogue ....... but it will depend on if they want people around who take Messiah Yeshua - Jesus very, very seriously or not?

Although I am a Christian I believe that Jews are correct in their belief regarding the Gilgul cycle.

On the plus side.... whatever all is meant by Ezekiel chapter forty seven sounds like win, win , win , win , win , win for the Middle East... and the whole world.

    https://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/eze/47/1/s_849001

Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.

Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side.
    ......
    .......8
Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed.

And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.

    and on that note.....

Can Israel pull the entire world economy out of a possible Bear Market, another 1929?
