No, had he pointed it to the floor or ceiling that would have been fine, what's ridiculous about that? You did watch the footage, right?

Only the cover officer, you must only watch the footage from cover officer's point of view.

Maybe it is NOT the amount of training - But the direction and "Core Values" that
that schooling seeks to instill. Training that aims to inculcate a "Warrior Ethos", an
"us vs them" attitude that treats every encounter as a Life & Death confrontation.
A training that is specifically aimed to Physiologically separate the trainee from
the Citizenry he is supposedly designed to serve. Rather he is taught to treat them
as "a lesser Sheep humanity" that he is to herd and CONTROL at his WILL, and the
WILL of the people who tell him what to do. Thus laying the ground for the enforcement
................................................................................................................................................... of an Ugly Police State.

This being the Philosophy, aim and direction of the training, it can only encourage
the encouragement of any latent "Control Freak THUG Psychopathy" in the vetting
and acceptance any of the applicants.

Get a load to this Psycho PIG of a man, as he trains his new herd of Swine,
......... eg. "That Killing a person is NO big deal" -so just get use to the Idea.

The Police Trainer Who Teaches Cops to Kill
Look at this F#<k's Eyes and tell me that WE don't have a PROBLEM Houston
    .....

THIS IS THE ETHOS THAT IS BEING INSTILLED IN THE POLICE

He also had time and was close enough to use pepper spray and/or a taser. He could have even kicked (not ideal but better than emptying a weapon on the guy) the guy onto his stomach to handcuff him with his partner covering.

I cannot believe the number of cop killer apologists. EVERY person is not a criminal looking to kill police officers and every cop is not looking to kill civilians. However, WRONG IS WRONG regardless if the shooter is wearing a badge or not.

Lunatic criminal shoots up a school and kills kids? Thoughts and prayers.
Lunatic cop shoots someone for playing a game too loudly? Poor misunderstood cop.

The excuses for cops are sounding more and more plaintive now that we have bodycams to show what actually happens.

In my own town half the cops have Masters degrees in HR and when you think about it that makes a great deal of sense given that they deal with people's problems all day long. KNOWING how to handle a situation beforehand means less likelihood of having a tragic outcome and that is where the training comes in.

There is another aspect to this that I think is worth mentioning. After semi-retiring I was going through my files and came across the folder where I kept all the certificates from the various professional courses that I have taken over my working career of 45 years. I have 48 of them not counting my college degree which means that I averaged slightly over more than one professional course per year.

This is no uncommon and I do not see myself as the exception but rather the rule when it comes furthering one's education throughout your lifetime. I bring this up because I know my local cops all did the requisite FBI firearms courses and things like that but how many cops take advanced HR degrees and things of that nature to ensure that they can maintain control in all situations.

I am of the opinion that the cop who killed the victim lacked the necessary training to handle situations like those. That lack of training is LETHAL and needs to be addressed ASAP.

You bring up a very good point. The lack of training in various aspects of human psychology (part of HR training) has created an "us vs. them" mentality among LEOs. As they say "If you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.".

Studies - LEOs trained in mental health first aid...
It is clear that something needs to be done to...

    1. Train (or retrain) officers in the psychology (not just criminal psychology) with ongoing and regular re-certification,

    2. Develop a truly "blind" system for reporting inappropriate behavior, suspected substance abuse and other warning signs of officers teetering the line (The Blue Code of Silence needs to be broken without fear of reprisal).

    3. Have third-party investigations, assessments and intervention in cases of police brutality (instead of rubber stamping almost all cases of police misconduct).

I believe all of this can go a long way in putting LEOs in the position for which they were hired - to serve AND protect. A community cannot feel represented and/or safe when the possibility of being brutalized or even killed is a very real possibility. Of course, there are some cases in which lethal force is the ONLY option but to dismiss *all* cases of lethal force as justifiable is not only prejudicial (toward LEOs) but dangerous to society, as a whole.

This topic is near and dear to me. I have been on both sides. It's never easy to bury a fellow officer and it's not easy to be forced into silence when one is witness to police brutality. It's time to truly address the problem and not just give it lip service. The future of our society depends on it.

    :applause:

    I agree with you 100%.

In order to support our police we must ensure that they are fully trained to handle situations of all types. The use of lethal force must always be the LAST resort as opposed to the ONLY resort that is the current norm.

We should find ways to reward and recognize officers who engage with their communities to find peaceful resolutions to problems.

The current focus on guns and militarization is the wrong direction and unless we change it things are only going to deteriorate IMO.

Because it wasn't murder, these were all justified killings by the police. We ask them to do things we ask no one else to do so we must give them leeway we give no others.

I've heard his lectures and he is a great guys, saved countless lives. The BLM riots show exactly WHY you need warrior cops to hold the line.

No he didn't, don't be daft, if it had been a knife perhaps but not with guns, people with guns get lead. No one is an 'apologist', we just have empathy.

    Yeah, you're academic degrees are worthless. This is the real world, the officer acted correctly. If you had a 'street degree' you'd think differently;

    Some books for you;
