This is a poll to make you think about morality, I have shamelessly stolen it from Pinecreek on you tube.

This is set just before the biblical flood, God has decided that mankind must die, because god has decided it we must assume it is moral for this to happen. God wants your opinion, do you just poof mankind out of existence or do you drown mankind?

If you wish to give your reasons for your choice I will be most interested.

Given that drowning is a horrible way to die the most humane choice would be to just poof mankind out of existence.

Needless to say the cruel and inhumane choice was the option used by the imaginary sociopath in the sky.

Well that's is a different debate! I am interested in the response to this moral dilemma and if anyone can justify drowning over poof!

I think we will not get many responses to this poll for people choosing drown!

As predicted not a single christian wants to answer this, happy to attack atheists but not keen to try to defend or even think about the moral difficulties that their belief presents them!

Well since the flood will kill EVERYTHING, poof is the obvious choice so nothing else is harmed.

Yes, that appears obvious to me but not apparently to Christians who believe in a moral god.

Why not just make us be nice all the time?
Surely an all-powerful God could do that.
Doesn't want to take away our free will I hear you say.
Not so worried about taking away our lives and those of every living thing though was he?
    What a monster.

Oh an all powerful god can do that! In fact he does so in heaven according to christian fundamentalists.

No, your theory isn’t right, and the reason is because in heaven we will be in God’s presence forever — and no sin can exist in His presence. God is absolutely holy and pure; as the Bible says, “Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing” (Habakkuk 1:13).

Ah, so if we are nice here on Earth we will be rewarded in heaven by having our free will taken away from us.
    Sounds fair.

No, no no, we still have free will in heaven its just a different kind of free will!

In heaven, our free will is limited against choosing what is wrong. Our free will in heaven will supernaturally always choose what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (see Philippians 4:8).

Confusing I know but just give up logic and reason and believe and it will all become clear!

...but God is everywhere, all powerful and all knowing.
    Yet sin exists.
    I'm confused.

OK, no xstians, so here goes:
Men were naughty, so had to have a spanking, so most were killed but some survived and would be very good after that in case big G did it again.
    How's that?

Btw, poof is slang for a gay man....

Sometimes, it is super ironic that folks couch arguments this way. One could say this is a model for how belief in many areas plays out. Consider the belief in AGW. Anyone who doesn't appropriately believe is labeled a denier. Much like how you've describe atheism. And it seems, belief in leads to a righteousness that justifies the attack on those who don't believe. But it is the belief in the unprovable that seems to enrage folks who believe that folks aren't willing to believe with them.

The discussion about drowning vs "poofing" assumes there is a plausible argument to be made that not following the convention is justification for extermination. This always seems to be the critical component. Somehow, the response to massive immorality (not believing or following the belief) justifies extermination. But there is also a component of offloading the advocacy of said extermination onto the overarching belief, and not the individual. It's intellectually dishonest for sure. But, it's what folks who fervently believe are left with because of the transparency and the superficiality of their belief.

But if god works in ways that we do not understand how can we take him as a moral authority?

Is that not why it is always important to challenge your own beliefs as much if not more than the beliefs of others and to have those beliefs challenged?

""""" In heaven, our free will is limited against choosing what is wrong""""

...and why couldn't we have that on earth? Would it have cut down on the suffering so god didn't like it?

Science does not rely on beliefs only evidence.
Since there is zero evidence that there is a God religion relies on faith and belief.

Very good question, and of course it completely blows Plantinga's argument for free will out the water if you believe it as fundamentalist christians do.

I don't fully understand all the intricate science of climate change, this is why I take those who do as the authority. No belief required only logic.
The options are, accept the evidence of those who have made it their life's study or accept the beliefs of those with vested interests in denying the evidence.
    No contest.
Ps. The devil doesn't exist either.
