I believe in reincarnation, but I wouldn't bet my life on it ( there's a joke in there somewhere) My philosophy was posted elsewhere, these URLs These are philosophical, abstract, etc. http://www.politicalforum.com/index...igious-ideology.577824/page-3#post-1072044795 http://www.politicalforum.com/index...maker-argument.577800/page-14#post-1072043456 follow up on above http://www.politicalforum.com/index...maker-argument.577800/page-15#post-1072044686 This has to do with personal religious experience http://www.politicalforum.com/index...nying-us-eternal-life.575853/#post-1071896695
This is something I have deeply struggled with especially in the face of numerous personal tragedies and loss. I have bounced from Christian to atheist to anti-religion and have landed on agnostic somewhat. I believe humans could never comprehend a creator even in it’s simplest forums. I definitely believe something “created” us (life) but have no idea what that creator is or it’s reasoning. I believe organized religion is evil and corrupt. I believe people trying to force their religious beliefs on others are similarly evil and corrupt.
We A big fat amen that creationism must be banned from even being mentioned in ANY science class. US K-12 provides almost no science for most students. And, that shows up when we have an entire political party including a president that assault science on a daily basis. In the best of all possible worlds, it would be OK to have survey type courses where students could learn about the various religions of the world without there being ANY suggestion of whether any one of them is "true". BUT, it's been proven that can't be trusted. So, religion needs to be excluded from ALL official acts within schools that receive public funding.
BUT all too many 'official' acts are religious. Since you continually fail to make the distinction it looks to me like you only want to ban deity based religion and apologize and champion the use of nondeity based religions.
I cannot agree. Education into all religions, without preference, is the way to go. To keep children ignorant of the abuses that many religions do to their sheeple should be well documented and taught. Religions, the mainstream god religions based on imaginary supernatural entities in particular, should be discussed so as to show the utter idiocy of the theologies and the immorality of their homophobic and misogynous ways. Our duty to all children is to educate them of the vile religions and especially the ones who posit that a genocidal prick like Yahweh is a good god. To not educate them is like sending a soldier to war without telling him who the enemy is. Regards DL
I admit to demonizing the god based religions while advocating for the religions that promote the seeking of knowledge and wisdom and who put man above god, in recognition that all our gods are man made. I am with you on not liking the deity religions. Regards DL
but I am not 'against' deity based religions, I simply did not choose a deity based religion for my personal worldview.
How come you are always so surprised every time you comment have you forgotten all the previous comments you made on this and since you ask the same question each time you have obviously forgotten the previous answers too right! Is there a point to your exercise?
You keep going back and forth in your statements about whether you are agnostic and Muslim. So, yes, I find it very perplexing. Also, you say now that you don't choose a deity based religion, but the last thread we were in you said that everyone has a deity. Which is it? There is a point to the exercise: to try to coax out a straight answer and some consistency.
I think there are some fundamental problems with this. Our religions in the USA have learned to accommodate even the worst of what we are doing today - our failure to even consider what we stand for as a nation, our willingness to make money by arming the world, our refusal to recognize the humanitarian atrocities that WE support, our acceptance of those who work to deny our minority populations representation (through voting, census, etc.), our aility to ignore the treatment of minority populations by police forces that don't answer to the people, etc. Attempting to oppose that accommodation by teachiang religion in school is something I don't see as having a prayer. Schools don't own any of those religions and don't have any legitimate authority concerning what those of vaious religions might believe. Pointing to past atrocities in which religion played a central role is also useless, as those ARE mistakes made by human beings - including those who followed that flawed leadership. And, application of religious principles requires a belief in the rightness of that religion. For example, to a "New Age"" believer, the direction that might be found in the Bible is of academic interest only. Likewise, a black congregation can work on ways to apply their religion to the problems they face. But, in that case their religion is the fundamental, Public schools just don't have the religion of that congregation as a fundamental.
So are you a Muslim (as you've claimed) or are you agnostic (as you've also claimed)? Should be easy to answer. Why won't you answer?
To forget the past is to relive it. Why hide the truth? What other human history would you not teach? Regards DL
morals do not require religion, only a consciousness that learns from it's own experience and if it feels right to them, do the same to others - if it feels wrong to them, don't do to others
true if its merely a philosophical discussion in ethics, however there is no escaping the fact that your morals are/is 'your religion'.
We should teach MORE history, not less. However, pointing to things done in the name of Christianity or by Christians or by those of any other faith is really pretty meaningless, as everyone including Christians is perfectly aware that humans make mistakes, including grave sins. So, pointing to cases of atrocities caused by members of some faith group doesn't really mean anything. Instead, maybe there should be a class on foreign policy with a focus on how a perfect god might want the USA to approach foreign policy, equal rights in America, policy negotiations such as take place in all our congresses, representation, equity in compensation, poverty, or other problems we face today. Data show that pretty much all Americans claim some form of religious guidance. However, I see little effort to teach ways to apply that guidance toward the problems we face. Let's face it. Jesus was a consumate left winger. Yet, the popular views of the Christian right wing today are absolutely opposed to that direction. Why? Surely that is a monstrous gap that needs to be closed both by religious organizations and by our education system. And, public education wouldn't even have to address the differences between religions - questions of what the heck is a Holy Spirit or the importance of Muhammad's mother just don't really matter.
I have no idea why you keep pushing this nonsense. Religion has elements that philosophy does not have. But, I don't believe that's the real problem. The real problem has more to do with whether these valuse ever get applied to any important decision. For example, does your sense of religion condone the policy of permanently removing children from families who seek asylum by escaping to America, ensuring that they will never be reunited? If so, please cite something from a religion that would support that action, as I see this issue as demonstrating the kind of gap between claimed beliefs and actual actions being taken with consent of the people.
I say I have none. But if I did, it would be for Thor and Woden, the gods of my fathers, not the desert slave god Yahooey and his bastard son Jeebus.
But the idea of "right-wrong"...."good-bad"...."him or me" must first be introduced before that awareness is possible. Perhaps that is where humans got stuck and so remain and continue to their own destruction. They can't see anything beyond their foolish judgement of "this is good" and "this is bad"... therefore.."I am right" and "you are wrong".
You have to find a way to repeal the Noble Lie that governments have used to justify our suffering the vile mainstream religions. That lie being that our vile mainstream religions are good for us. Good luck, given the numbers of liars and hypocrites, both political and religious. Regards DL
