So... I'm here, I am a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. I know, I know, how can that be when everything is black and white, all or nothing? Well my answer is; Though it seems like that's the way it is... perhaps people should stop using the internet to and cable news to give them an opinion and actually form an opinion of their of their own. Fake news is rampant on both 'sides of the line' but don't be manipulated by it. We are all better than that. I hope
Welcome to the boards. Happy to have you here. Please make sure you read over the Rules here: http://politicalforum.com/index.php?help/terms We try to keep things civil here, so we ask that you focus comments on topics and not on people who have different opinions. Enjoy!
Welcome. Lots of us here who don't look at the talking points memos. The partisans will be obvious after a bit. I'm libertarian light; also fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Max freedom for the maximum people.
Welcome to what I consider to be the best political discussion forum on the internet. Do you think that I am buying into a conspiracy theory to take the idea seriously that President Lincoln saved American taxpayers four billion dollars in interest payments? In my opinion.... if that idea is true.... that would have been one of the most fiscally conservative policies ever used in USA history? https://www.michaeljournal.org/articles/politics/item/abraham-lincoln-and-john-f-kennedy
That's not an odd combination at all; in fact numerous politicians have described themselves in similar terms. I think it came into vogue in the 1990s, w/ Clinton & crew (though I preferred Paul Tsongas). Of course, there can be a lot of play between different individuals' ideas of what socially liberal & fiscally conservative each mean. For starters, one could make the case that description would fit, "prudent," but kinder & gentler George H.W. Bush. Moving on to the other thing you spoke about, though I get no joy out of dashing hopes, I think you'll find we are not All better than believing, or even spreading, "fake news (another expression for which you're likely to see more than one definition, here at Political Forum). So, en garde!
Welcome! I quit the cable some years ago. FB too. Don't miss em even a little. Go find a topic ur interested in and jump into the ring
They are compatible. Being a Social Moderate and a fiscal conservative, the general idea from my perspective is that while there are social programs that are worthwhile, they need better direction and review to eliminate fraud. Most fiscal conservatives are willing to pay into programs that help those who truly need it. I've not watched TV for about 7 years, Weather Channel and the occasional HGTV binge aside. I read from various online newspapers as such, both leans, knowing the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Long gone are the days that news provided facts and let you decide. Now they feed you coloration of every event, and tell you what to think, sort of like most education models these days. I'm sure I will see you around the forum.
