"President Trump edged out former President Barack Obama as Americans’ most admired man in 2020, according to Gallup polling released on Tuesday.

Eighteen percent of Americans named Mr. Trump. The president was followed by Mr. Obama (15%), President-elect Joseph R. Biden (6%) and Dr. Anthony Fauci (3%)."

I have a couple of thoughts....

First, I can't believe Obama is even in the running, that shows that his hateful influence is still being felt four years after we got rid of him.

Second, Trump may be leaving office, but I think he's going to remain influential, which is a good thing! He didn't just win an election in 2016, he started a movement, a movement to restore patriotism, take the country back, and rebuild our economy, among other things. His supporters aren't just going to sit down now and say "oh well".

    Thoughts?

Sadly, if there were a poll on the most hated man in America, Trump would almost certainly win that too. Such polarisation can't be good for the US. But how to wind it back and find more middle ground?

The Democrats let that genie out of the bottle with Obama, and I'm not sure if anyone can ever get it back in.

Repeat after me: "GALLUP POLL. It's a GALLUP POLL. It's an article about a GALLUP POLL."

Before you lefties attack the sources, maybe you should actually read the articles first. Or in this case, all you needed to do was read the TITLE

I honestly struggle to find anything at all to admire about him. Could he be worse? Yes, of course, but I can't really think of anything that remotely respectable about him. He's a con man, an absolutely hateful human being, emotionally and intellectually stunted beyond what we'd even expect from a healthy child, etc. I could at least say that I thought of Obama and Bush as a decent family men, but I can't say the same for Trump.

Which part of the poll is fake? That Michelle Obama is the most admired woman?
Or did Gallup get that right? ;-)

Why? I am very far from a Trump fan, but I find it quite plausible. Who else would win? He has a rock-solid base.

More blind partisan ad hominem nonsense.

LOL! The Moonies own CNN? :)

"It's the first time Trump has topped the list alone, ending a 12-year run by his predecessor, Barack Obama, with whom he tied for most admired in 2019. For Michelle Obama, it's her third straight year as the most admired woman in America."

I'll happily back up everything I've just said with intellect and reason.

And discussing someone's character when the TOPIC is the person's character is not an ad hominem fallacy.

The Moonies run Microsoft and CNN? I suppose we should have suspected that. ;-)

"Barack Obama came in second among men at 15%. President-elect Joe Biden came in third with 6% of and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, came in fourth with 3%. Pope Francis, Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Bill Gates were also among the most admired men on the list."

These polls are fake. I know someone who answered one of these surveys and said they were able to vote twice. Rigged polls.

Yeah, a black man became President of the United States, and all the bigot, racists, and flat earthers can’t stand that.

Donald Trump got as far as he did by peddling that ignorant white resentment right back at the target audience.

Yeah, there will almost certainly be another black President.

So, the “genie” is not going back in the bottle.

Oh I'm just poking fun at the same people who said that the polls showing Trump would lose and paint him in a negative light were fake.

In fact, ad hominem is always ad hominem. And it is always used in defiance of "intellect and reason".
Which does not mean that you are not free to use it against politicians. :)

I've tutored logic and debate classes for years. When the topic IS someone's character, it is not a fallacy to discuss their character. My opinions of Trump are based on observation and reason. I can provide numerous examples if you honestly want to discuss, but it appears you are simply attempting to dodge.

I am in agreement, but I still don't think for sure he is leaving office. If he does, I hope it is stated only for the good of the nation and we will never, ever have another fixed election! If he stays and fights, I am behind him with all I've got!

He lost. He needs to either grow up and admit it or seek psychological help. There is no evidence the election was "fixed." He's "fighting" reality. That's always a losing battle.

His promotion of lunatic conspiracy theories is just one of the reasons I disagree with the notion that he is "admirable."

"Eighteen percent of Americans named Mr. Trump"

    Great.

So, to put it ANOTHER Way:

    82% of Americans Think That:

Trump.is UNWORTHY of being called the "Most Admired"

    Sounds about right.
