Rep. Tammy Duckworth is calling for a complete investigation into all both ex and current U.S. military who are identified as participating in the capitol buildings insurrection. She wants any that are currently active to be court martialed, and any who are retired receiving military pensions, to lose their benefits.

Gosh. So we should apply this liberally to folks like teachers, students participating in BLM or ANTIFA, right?

Oh, and public servants, elected officials, etc. What a great idea....

Did she say that? Military members have an oath to the constitution.

Do teachers or students take an oath to defend the constitution?

As far as I know they are?? Aren't those identified looting or destroying public or private property charged with their crimes tried fined and held financially responsible where appropriate. She is recommending a retired military veteran collecting a taxpayer funded pension lose it, if he is convicted of being a domestic terrorist.

Actually I believe military members, retired or active duty should be punished more severely as should anyone else who swore to protect and uphold the Constitution.

I am not referring to those who participated in a peaceful protest. Just those who entered the Capitol or otherwise committed violent or illegal acts.

No, she is talking about those who actually can be proven to have participated in the terrorism.

That issue is not as simple as at first thought. Depending on rank, years of service and their age, the loss of a military pension could potentially deprive them of a million or millions of dollars. Arbitrarily saying they should just be stopped would end up with inconsistent penalties. Millions for some, thousands for others and only jail time for others such as civilians. . In addition, most oft them have families who would also be deprived.

Then to further complicate it, most retirees have signed up for survivor benefits meaning they have been contributing a substantial portion of their retirement to provide for surviving spouses. Do they also intend to stop payment on purchased survivor benefits?

Any such proposal violates equal justice for all.

    No!

    This amounts to political persecution.
Too often I read an employer spotting an employee in a political activity unpopular with the employer who then fires the wrong thinking employee.

Political Persecution should not be tolerated on anyone!

Shouldn't they have thought about their families before participating in domestic terrorism???

I'm sure Duckworth, a disabled American veteran, gave it some thought before making her recommendation.

Regardless of how you try to spin it, it is unequal punishment for equal crimes.

By all means. Give it your best shot. Investigate and get your evidence, then charge and off to trial.
    Please.

Military active will be subject to court martial as well as possible civilian court punishment. I don't know who exactly would decide if retired military on a government military pension, which is far more generous than any private company offers, would lose it

Employees of private companies seldom sign a contract that might end up ending their life or severely wounding them, can be required to serve anywhere for any length of time based on the needs of the service or their employment could be terminated before reaching retirement because they were not promoted soon enough. It has always been my recommendation that anyone who desires such a pension should immediately sign up and hope for the best.

And they will be doing that for less pay than a civilian doing comparable work and most likely working longer hours and are subject to recall on a 24-7 basis.

Insurrection and sedition are not protected activities, FYI.

    Then get a "conviction"
    before the political persecution.

On January 6, when these "patriotic rioters" invaded the Capitol, how do you suppose they would go about getting a "conviction" on the spot? That is what it sounds like you are proposing.

Of the 100s of photos and video of what happened, do you mean to tell me that level of violence which killed 5 people, was not sedition? Was not an insurrection? Plenty of people who have been to war-torn nations sure described it as such.
