Does TRUMP Impeachment accomplish anything???

If the senate were to vote to impeach Trump what would it actually accomplish once his term has completely expired. UNLESS it terminates all post presidential taxpayer funded financial benefits afforded to ex presidents, it is not worth the effort.

 

Just like the first impeachment attempt, it will accomplish nothing. Trump will go down in history as the first President to be impeached twice, and also still failed to be removed twice. Also as the first President in the past 40 years to not get the United States into a new war.

 

What war did Obama get us into?????

 

We were at war for Obama's entire eight year term. During which he ordered airstrikes against Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Libya, Somalia, and Iraq. And of course Benghazi which liberals would love to just sweep under the rug and forget about...

 

He never declared war on anyone . Didn't Trump order air strikes??? The Iranian comes to mind???

No sure what it accomplished but it did solidly one thing.

Here is one undeniable practical result.
Do you see Trump on TV pleading with his followers all across the country to be good? This trial and the threat of conviction is literally the only leverage we have, because Trump is fixated on not being seen as illegitimate. It is buying the FBI, state police, the Dept of Justice, the national guard time to investigate, to prepare and develop intelligence on these followers and their links to RW terror groups. It allows Biden some breathing room before and after inauguration to gain some idea who is loyal to the country and who is loyal to Trump.

The Senate trial prepares the case for that subsequent vote ( a separate one) barring him from running for public office. I sure see that as having benefit.

 

I just want to see all taxpayers funds cut off from the entire Trump clan on January 20.

 

That is exactly why congress needs to continue the entire process, even if they don't finish until after he's gone.

He won't be allowed to hold public office ever again. He won't get the pension (currently just over $219k). He won't get the annual travel allowance we provide to past presidents. And the only reason he would get a Secret Service detail is because if some nefarious foreign adversary should go after him, he knows things that could compromise national security.

 

Barring Trump from running for office is essential. As is removing the perks. But I think it's also important on principle alone. The American people are guaranteed the truth through the rule of law. Repairing the damage done to the nation's people must begin with the truth. This also is how we show the world we are a nation of laws, and that democracy in the US has survived. Also a beginning.

Trump has caused a lot of damage. I've heard comments that it will take years, maybe a decade to repair. I've thought this to be a bit exaggerated, but I'm now seeing how it could take many years to accomplish.

 

Just the worldwide damage to the USA as a stronghold of democracy is going to take a long time to cure.

 

Ironic you would mention saving tax payers money. Impeachment is a political distraction to keep people fighting among each other so that both sides can spend tax payers money like thieves with stolen credit cards. There is zero concern or respect for our hard-earned tax dollar regardless of the letter by their name.

 

The new Democratic-led Congress continues to focus on the Nations needs......

 

I don't see it as some political calculation or pragmatic timing issue.
It is sadly the necessary thing to do to record for history that trump's attempt to subvert the election and the sort of vicious insurrection assault on our country that he incited is not acceptable and has consequences.
It is bad timing for Biden, and likely to anger the cult, but those are not reasons to shirk from doing the right thing.

 

Being the ego maniac that he is, Dirty Donald may just see the distinction of being the only president impeached twice as a badge of honor????

 

If Trump is not impeached this time by the Senate, then the Democrats have utterly failed. Not only will he serve his full term without being removed by Congress, but will also still be eligible to run for office again.

That's just icing on the cake of the four year temper tantrum they've thrown for Trump being elected in the first place. Personally, I think its hilarious...

 

Between Dirty Donalds frequent golf trips to enrich himself and his large families very frequent trips they have cost taxpayers way more than any presidential family in our history, and Thank God it was all in one term.

 

It would now appear that the entire Trump clan is headed to Florida. Melania and Dirty Donald to Palm Beach, Ivanka and Jared bought a very expensive lot on an offshore island, Don Jr and Kimberly Guilfoyle headed there and now Tiffany and her boyfriend headed for South Beach.

 

But, more importantly, he won't be allowed to hold another office of public trust, ever again. And that is the reason we need to impeach him, post presidency.

Trump impeachment is a Signal that anyone who abuses the Presidency will be held to account

 

More than likely, it signals that future presidents who are from the opposite party from House control will be repetitively impeached. After 2022 mid-terms, Biden (or Harris) may become the first president to be impeached 3, 4, 5, or who knows? Maybe make it a baker's dozen.

In two short years, Democrats made a total mockery of impeachment. Now it's just a political tool to pull out whenever the House has 51%. No committees. No hearings. No deliberations. Just vote to impeach the president whenever the mood strikes.
