I don't think he has the media pull(especially from MSNBC) to try to garner sympathy. I do however think, that it puts things in context. Trump *may* yes want to get back into political life but between what he did, the coronavirus and how overweight he is, I want everyone to put their logical thinking caps on: It's over.

And this is why I've been saying to everyone: Trump doesn't matter. It's why I'm more concerned about the future health of the Senate. If political trials are the new norm, then we've lost touch with what made America exceptional. That's not going to go away even with a conviction.

 

So, we should let bygones be bygones? What prevents current or future presidents from abusing their power if we turn a blind eye to what Trump has done to cause division and chaos within the country?

 

It's not necessarily letting bygones be bygones, if we're sure he's committed a crime. If he's committed a crime then the justice system is more than up to the task of charging him, proving it and incarcerating him like damn near any other criminal.

It's less about letting bygones be bygones, then it is about a private citizen being tried in the Senate(sure, McConnell could have complied and we'd have an impeachment of President Trump but that sadly didn't happen.). But the reality and the optics, is what we have now.

The Senate as a form of political theater happened once before(Brett Kavanaugh) with minor fanfare. I firmly believe this event, will by historians be noted as the moment where the Senate as an institution degraded itself to being a mob-centric institution as well.

It's defenders say that It did not explicitly say " go and commit homicide, go and render Officer Sicknick dead, go and hang Pence, render Nancy dead, gomand commit insurrection" that It is innocent. No It is not innocent but it matters not because It will not be voted guilty as It should be because there are too many Eunachs among those who so falsely claim to be Republicans and patriots serving in the Senate

Trumps opposition. Trump had a rose colored view of Covid while Democrats took the opposite approach and imposed strict shutdowns and mandates. Now we have the benefit of hindsight, we can discuss results. I live in Los Angeles, so lets use my city for an example.
