that was a huge mistake on Trump's part, he invited them there, he incited them right before they marched over and during

had he kept this at arms length, he could have got away with it

regardless what the Senate does, this will go in the history books

....but just noticed, were getting off topic

Im not defending Trump. He caused less damage than the opposition. Not a high bar to clear!

Incorrect, he never incited anything. They acted according to their anger, that has nothing to do witth Trump. It is irrational to suggest otherwise.

History will definitely remember this, but it wont be favorable for democrats as history is also recording the actual trial in detail. The defense has laid out an amazing defense that beyond any reasonable doubt disproves the narratives you choose to portray. History will see that and it will not remember dems fondly here.

Trump failed and really did not even try very hard to handle the COVID pandemic, I don't think he cared except for a short time while he had it

Trump performed very well as President, outperforming Obama by a long shot in half the time.
Dems failed during the pandemic, and have blood on their hands. YOu had dems like Cuomo literally murder people.
Dem areas have been hit hte hardest, even in red states. Complete disgrace.

Obama passed Trump a growing economy, Trump left with millions fewer jobs and an economy ready to crash.... lucky Biden

Trump failed to handle covid, this was Trump's only crisis of his Presidency, Trump failed to rise to the occasion

Trump had a better economy while spending less prior to the pandemic. Trump found the magic wand that obama said couldn't be found.

Once all the lockdowns are completely lifted, Biden will ride Trumps wave of progress. It will be a smaller wave as he has taken action to hinder that already but nonetheless still remains true.

Crazy he was that bad and still didn't give a ****.

A 75 year old fat man crushed Covid with zero concern.

    Like a boss.

Not at all. The market lost points in Obamas last 18 months.

The economy was growing at a record pace, and would have continued, had Democrat governors not been allowed to ban their constituents from working. As if we needed more evidence that Covid was political, look how quickly we are opening up to try and pump up those economic numbers under Bidens tenure.

But always worth a repeat when you're trying to make a point.

I guess it even better to be close to god or simply not being a frightened propaganda believer ;)

A president lied about a medical condition?

Pfft. He wasn't the first and he won't be the last.

Sure, when he/she is President(and I know McConnell did a piss off move because he didn't want his party to be in charge of the trial.). But if private citizens can still be impeachable, why haven't democrats impeached G.W.B for Iraq and weapons of mass destruction? Is that something we should let 'slide'?(This isn't a Trump defense, this is a question.)

He was impeached while president. The constitution doesn't say the Senate shouldn't try impeachments due to good timing on the president's part.

Perhaps living in the Dems petri dish makes my experience a bit different. I am not a fan of either party. FL has had schools, restaurants, and bars open for some time now.

I don't expect the government to handle things well or in our best interest. The first day of our "stay at home" order, parking enforcement was out in full force towing the cars of those staying home in what we call "anti gridlock zones" Our mayor threatened to cut water and power to any business now shutting down.

Bottom line is that L.A. was one of the worst hit metros in spite of strict shutdowns and mandates imposed by politicians, which by the way, exempted themselves and their families. Based on results, the dem approach turned out to be worse.

If a politicians tells me I should inject bleach, I can choose not to listen. The power to demand it is my main issue.

And still had better results than those who "tried hard"

It would be foolish to believe either party cares.

Nope, I call it “drivel” because that best explains the slobber-slinging nonsense you dispense.

Trump is not being tried by the Senate for his actions as a Private citizen, he is being tried for his actions as President

Trump was impeached while he was still President

You misjudge Trump I believe - pretty sure he'd take a bath in embryonic stem cells if he had the chance. Especially if it could regrow his hair.

I feel like it's a gimmick. It's trying an entity(President 'Trump') that no longer applies. And if one could separate disqualification from removal, the text would imply that, but it doesn't. The Senate does get to make its own rules, but it feels like if the House/Senate get to make their own rules then impeachment by definition has no rules.

I was not a big fan of strict lock downs.
But we had to NOT overload the healthcare system and workers.

It was flatten the curve. Not stop the curve.

So, any sitting POTUS can do whatever they want, however they want, irrespective of the laws as long as it's close enough to the end of their elected term?

He was impeached before he left office.
The trial is taking place after his term was up.

I don't know - did the American people have a right to know why Hillary kept collapsing in 2016?

Meantime, from a purely medical perspective, it would have been very unusual if someone as generally unfit as Trump - at age 74 - recovered rapidly and easily. Having said that, if he was as sick as they're suggesting he'd have been out of sight in full care for much longer than he was. The evidence suggests that he had a severe case, but actually recovered within a couple of weeks as do the majority.

Not what I said at all. But rather, that the political system couldn't try an entity that no longer existed. It would be like suing me for malicious wrongdoing at a job that I'm no longer employed in. If you wanted to sue me for my bad behavior, you should've done so when I was employed.

I think there's a statue of limitations that's inherently connected with the political term(but keep in mind, this is only for the duration of a "President's" term), in the private sphere where Trump now resides, the DOJ should be able to utilize its tools to bring a case if there's a case to be brought.
