I already have mine germinated. Should be ready while we still have cool weather. Seeing that cool weather slows down growth. It should be ready by April I reckon.

Will you be getting any snow or just icy weather?

I don't. Residual ice, lots of wet. High winds. No snow. My city has a protective dome over it that keeps snow away--well technically it is just a mountain that pushes it away from us usually

This happens a couple of times a year, and is the best reason to live in Florida. Summer is the best reason to not live in Florida.

Greetings, Smartie - it's been a while since I poked my head in.

We don't have any snow here in the remote hinterlands of Central Virginia but we got LOTS of ice last weekend and more on the way Thursday. I saw y'all got some out in the Lone Star State, too.

We're on Day 4 without power and no end in sight. I was just telling Chrizton we'd be in deep doo-doo if it weren't for our generators and fireplace...

    Ouch. That's hard. Stay warm!

We have to deal from time to time after a hurricane or TS. Extremely unpleasant in the summer, and makes for lots of grumpy people who are hot and sweaty under one roof.

That's no fun. We did the hot, sweaty and grumpy thing for 3 days after the 2012 Derecho (with generator) and 5 days after Hurricane Isabel (w/o generator). This hasn't been a lot of fun, either, and I'm afraid we're going to be living off the grid for another week.

I never thought I would need two generators but I'm finding out it's nice to be able to split the workload during a Winter outage when you might need 24 hours/day generator power to stay warm, keep the pipes from bursting, etc..

Yeah.. we'd stocked up on propane weeks before. However, we didn't lose electricty.. still good to have back up heat.
BnB guest got stuck on the other side of the Big Hill.. they stayed in a $260 a night motel room.. think I'll raise my BnB rates!

At least you can put your perishables outside if need be.

About 100 (40, really) years ago, I learned how to play backgammon during a major power outage. By day 2, I was kicking butt....

I could but God only knows what would show up in my backyard. I did leave my beer outside, though. That stayed nice and cold....while it lasted. :alcoholic:

    I can imagine.

We've been trying to get cozy with it. I'll get a big fire ragin' in the fireplace while my wife fills the house with candles. About the only TV I've watched lately are weather reports. It's nice to get away from all the noise once in a while, even under these circumstances.

20210216_101040.jpg Sun King seedlings. 20210216_101035.jpg Calabrese seedlings. I am trying both kinds. The goats got some seedlings earlier this month. Anyway, will try to plant the best of both kinds and follow with maybe Purple Hulls.

He installed it on Christmas, and it's been reporting no rain, until today. He's doing what I like to call, "Nerding it up!" There's more on there, but this is all I could capture in one shot. 1,088 lightening strikes in the last three hours!

The lightning factor alone is impressive. That is a very nice set up. He is going to love it during hurricane season and I shudder to think that is only less than 4 months away.

No snow-here and thank goodness it didn’t get as cold as their prediction. 30 this morning when I got up. The weather people said we would be in the 20’s.

I wouldn't complain about 19 if we got snow. No Texas size snow... We were in east Texas in 2015 when they had snow. It took us hours to go from Beaumont to Rayne, La. I-10 was like one big parking lot. When Texas gets snow they get snow.

Purple hulls are the very best. Speaking of Texas they grow the best purple hulls.

This past weekend when cleaning odds and ends I had old grape tomatoes to compost, dirt from a dead plant to toss out, and a Sam's club roasted chicken container to recycle, and their fates merged into:
