Works best for my dog. Huge back yard, fenced in. Away from major cities. Finally some peace and quiet. Except when I have to log in for work online lol

I'm getting ripe tomatoes daily, now. Fresh salsa, tomato salad, real tomatoes on sandwiches! I love winter!

    Glad you are okay.

Put some tomato seeds in dirt today. Moved more plants into cold frame.

Not really you were right in the middle of the excitement. Who knew Texas might become the snow capitol?
Busted pipes can be terrifying especially if you have a water meter.

Cool. I've been thinking of planting our veggie seeds soon - time to get on the stick.

Last year I experimented with planting our seeds in the cheap little 8 oz. plastic cups you can buy at the grocery store and that worked like a champ. You just have to drill a hole in the bottom so the water will drain out.

These things are the bomb - I found out about them last year and by the time I was thinking of ordering the equipment they got locked down on account of the WuFlu:

    SOIL BLOCKING
    https://www.johnnyseeds.com/tools-supplies/seed-starting-supplies/soil-blocking/

When the seedlings are ready you just stick 'em in the ground.

This woman's got a nice 2-ingredient recipe that appears to work, but I haven't tried it myself:

Snow in Galveston is crazy. So is this video of this frozen bayou at Lake Fausse Pointe, Louisiana:

Yesterday the power company finally got us back on the grid after 9 1/2 days. Last night was the first time I got to sleep without the sound of. generator running since February 12. If I remember I'll post a few pics tomorrow - worst ice storm to hit Virginia in my lifetime.

This year I bought some Pro Mix and used it for seedlings. I also got some cheap stuff to compare. The soil in my garden has been built up over time and even rested. for a year. So I will dig a hole for a 4 inch pot and mulch with cardboard and hay. Adding coffee grounds as I go. Then see what happens.

I'd like to hear how your comparison works out.

Johnny's starts taking orders from home gardeners tomorrow so I think I'm going to finally purchase this guy - it makes blocks about the same size as the little pots you have your seedlings in:

    https://www.johnnyseeds.com/tools-s...cker-7862.html?cgid=soil-block-makers#start=1

Last year I filled the plastic cups with potting soil and then put a little indention in the top, filled it with Jiffy seed starter and then dropped a seed (or two) in that. I got great germination results using that. The only problem I had was that I planted too late for everything but our pumpkins. I was harvesting tomatoes all the way up till the first frost.

I've tried something similar, and virtually every other method of starting seeds.

Best I have found is old used three pack bedding plant packs, Jiffy sterile seed starting mix, a heat mat, a fish tank light fixture, and room temperature water.

And patience. The spouse starts asking if they plants are ready for harvest about two days after I've seeded, lol. Oh, and BTW, The beneficial moon phase to start above ground crops starts tonight, through Saturday.

I have heard of planting by the moon but never paid much attention. I have recycled window glass boxes put together with silicone. I have a heat mat and 20 gal aquarium to start seedlings. I also have a 3200 lumen 5000k light over the top.

It has to due with the moon making moisture rise, I believe. (think ocean tides) The better the moisture, the more like the germination.

If the moon can control something as large as the ocean it can control other things too. Some of the old timers would not plant or harvest if the signs weren’t right. Ecclesiastes 3 says there are times for everything.
