Looks like they dropped a couple of kabooms on the Iranian backed militias.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States launched airstrikes in Syria on Thursday, targeting facilities near the Iraqi border used by Iranian-backed militia groups. The Pentagon said the strikes were retaliation for a rocket attack in Iraq earlier this month that killed one civilian contractor and wounded a U.S. service member and other coalition troops.

I really hope this proportional response alerts Iran that unlike the Trump admin where he cowardly allowed Russia to put bounties on our soldiers without response, Biden will protect our people and our assets in the region. The last thing either country needs is for this to continue and escalate.

So, Trump is worthy of scorn because he REFUSED to get us involved in another war? Maybe even a nuclear exchange with Vladimir Vladimirovich? P'raps you should ask Soleimani about Trump's cowardice? Oh wait, you can't ask him because Trump had him turned into something resembling cat food. I seem to recall a retaliatory strike by Iran that caused no deaths among U.S. troops in the region. Would you prefer it had Trump blustered and began attacking Iran continuously? You'll excuse me (or not) for saying your response to ANY ACTION by the BOM, would be scorn so your opinions tend to be diluted in effect.
Rest easy knowing Biden will dance to whatever tune the Tan Messiah plays.

Yet you ignore that Biden is too cowardly to attack Iran directly.

Face the facts: Russia put bounties on American soldiers and Trump did NOTHING. If a Democratic president did nothing, the right wing would call it treason and scream about "second amendment remedies." No one wants another war. That is why Biden decided on a proportional response and not an all out assault that would have forced Iran to respond to.

The fact is Biden has actual, competent people in his administration who are able to respond to an attack without sparking another Middle-Eastern war. It isn't cowardice, it is competence...something we didn't have for four years.

Trump attacked Iran in Syria too. So either Trump was equally competent or Biden is equally incompetent. Iran attacked Americans. Both coward away from retaliating against our enemy. As a result, Iran will keep attacking Americans with impunity. Biden backed down from Iran on the nuclear issue and now he is backing down from them again.

Biden is trying to re-enter the Iran nuke deal because that is the only way of preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power without starting a war. Again, it is the difference between competence and whatever the Trump administration was doing (you know, when they were all engaged in criminal activity).

Biden is failing in Iran the same way Trump did, but even worse. Trying to re-enter the Iran nuke deal on Iran's terms is absolute insanity.

I guess you consider Soleimani's killing as a non-proportional response? Biden is showing himself to be a senile, bumbling fool and even his own handlers understand that. Maybe that's why Pelosi and 30+ other Democrats are asking for alternate control over the nuke codes? As to your silly comment about "competence", Trump REFRAINED from taking strong action against Iran on more than one occasion. Hell, his generals even lied to his face when he asked about total troop levels in his quest to draw down and leave the M.E. when it became feasible. I wonder how you and your party would react if Biden or Heels Up was dismissed by generals and lied to them about strategies, troop levels, target packages, etc...? That was just a rhetorical... you and they would absolutely lose your minds and the propaganda arm of your regime would be sounding a call to arms or some such stupidity.

If you actually believe that appeasement is going to delay Iran's nuke program, I feel sorry for you. I saw a piece a few days ago where Netanyahu and his IDF chief, Aviv Kochavi, warned Biden in no uncertain terms that re-engaging Iran by dropping sanctions could well lead to Israel acting alone to remove the threat. I'd support nuclear bunker busters to neutralize the growing threat. Iran is undeniably the worst regional terror threat and as soon as their cash flow improves, they'll be funding all sorts of death and destruction, mostly against Israel. It's way past time to crush that evil regime.

Sorry, he didn't start any war. If you didn't notice, this cesspit of a place has been
at war for a long time. And as is shown on the Golan Heights, these Hezbollah,
ISIS, Iranian creeps want to push into new territories. War is all they know, war is
all they respect - bow to them, or fight them, what shall it be?

Fine, let Israel attack Iran and let them deal with the consequences. We have been supplying them with military aid and money for decades. If they go it alone, let them truly go it alone. Diplomacy is the only reasonable way to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. If I were Biden and Israel threatened to go it alone I would call their bluff. They will never do it if they know we aren't going to save them from the consequences.

I say leave them alone, as long as they don't touch Israel.

Uh... it won't be Israel that needs saving. If there is any nation or people on the planet who understand an existential threat, it's the Jews of Israel. If the day comes that they unleash nuke-tipped Jericho missiles on Tehran, it will be the absolute, LAST possible move to save themselves. Islam is a death-cult and Israel is more about cherishing life.
I think it will be interesting to revisit this discussion when Iran one day announces they are a nuke weapons state. I predict that everyone who is in favor of appeasement will seamlessly transition to the stance that Iran had every right to build a nuke, totally ignoring their current position about Iran being delayed or stopped from assembling a nuke.

Killing him was akin to Iran murdering our Secretary of Defense. Killing him was the "extreme option" and we are lucky that it didn't spark a war we are not able to fight right now.

Yea, yea. Biden is senile. We get it. The right has nothing to hang on Biden since he is essentially an honest, decent person so they conflate his speech impediment with his age and call him "senile." I have a feeling this "senile" guy is going to have an extremely successful first term. And the Democrats started asking for alternative control over the nukes in 2017 because they thought (rightly) that Trump was too unhinged to have sole control over them.

Trump's cabinet and staff ignore him and lied to him because they knew he didn't have the competence and composure to properly handle the office of President. That won't happen to Biden because he knows what he is doing and isn't absolutely crazy like Trump.

It isn't "appeasement" it is diplomacy. At the time the Trump admin pulled out of the Iran agreement, Iran had been complying and the agreement change their timetable from almost imminent to ten years. Pulling out of the agreement was rash and against just about every legitimate expert's advice. If we want to stop Iran from getting the bomb we can use diplomacy or military force. The former is far better than the latter. Unlike Afghanistan and Iraq, Iran can actually defend itself and any way against Iran would surely spread among other Shia countries. We narrowly avoided that fate when Trump murdered Solamani. I am sure Biden will be far more careful.

When it comes to the Golan you can't 'leave them alone" - these various groups
don't want to perch on the Golan to admire the Sea of Galilee.

Actually, it 'benefits' the local non-elite too. It depends on the war.
War is complicated - sometimes it begins 'top down' like Hitler, and
sometimes it begins 'bottom up' like Pakistan against India.
Often the elite don't want war because it destroys economies and
    whole nations.

New war? We have been doing this in Iraq for 18 years now. Allowing Iran to attack our troops with impunity is unacceptable. Trump should be ashamed of himself for allowing Iran to injure 100 US troops.

    We agree on proportional response.
The last time I studied the bounty story, it was based on an old report stating the rumor was unconfirmed. Several things are missing from the wild media reports.
Name of a Russian paying bounty money.
Name of a Taliban accepting it.
Name of a Taliban killing an American he wouldn't have killed for free.
Name of an American killed for bounty.

Is there any new reporting on this story?

You don't need names to know its happening. People who hunt serial killers don't know their names either, they just know they are out there killing people. In this case the US intelligence says Russians have a bounty program so you can either believe it or not. To say that you don't believe it unless you have all the names involved sums up to you burying your head in the sand.

US intelligence said they briefed Trump about it, while Trump denies is and calls the whole thing hoax and fake news, which is what he called everything he found inconvenient, and by doing that he is saying the US intelligence is lying about it. And then again, Trump was known to ignore briefs, so its possible they sent him a briefing, which he tossed in the trash bin without even looking at it. I don't know which is worse, because the latter equates to utter incompetence.

And here's some news from the other side:

    Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov:

"Our military was warned four or five minutes ahead of time. Of course, even if we are talking about deconfliction, as is customary in ties between Russian and US military personnel, this is nothing. This was a kind of notification when the strike was already being carried out,"

"We have recently received different information from various sources. We cannot confirm it for now, and want to ask the Americans about this directly. Supposedly, they are making the decision to never leave Syria, even to the point of destroying this country," Lavrov said, speaking to reporters at a press conference alongside Afghani Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar on Friday.

"They continue to play the separatism* card. They continue to block, using their levers of pressure on other states, any supply even of humanitarian aid, not to mention equipment and materials necessary to restoring the economy in the territories controlled by the government, and in every way possible force their allies to invest in territories outside Damascus's control," he said. "At the same time, they illegally exploit Syria's hydrocarbon resources."
*Separatism - The American intent in Syria was never to overthrow ISIS. It was only an excuse to invade Syria. Washington's intent has always been to overthrow Assad and his secular government and to break up the country into religious and ethnic enclaves.

By doing this and helping some groups prosper, and keeping others on a lower economic level, will insure that they will never unite and can be more easily controlled by the US. This is how Britain retained its empire.

The Syrian army has been fighting heroically to retain their nation and Assad's secular and all inclusive society.
