    It's Black History Month again.

    Time to watch Roots marathons
and be reminded of your personal culpability

    unless you are Black
for the conditions of Black People today
and forever in history. :tears:

Let's hear it for Black History month. :woot:

One of my personal favs learned from a Larry Gonick
Cartoon History of the Universe, vol. 2 I think

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mansa_Musa
    Enjoy or not.

Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.

I've never had a problem with the idea of black history month. It has, however, been done so poorly that it is almost a joke. Pick some black person from the approved list of worthwhile black people. Write a report. Save that report on that same person on the hard drive and update it every year and turn it in again to a new teacher and the box is checked time and time and time again.

    Meanwhile,
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/parents-allowed-remove-students-black-215225651.html
    Parents allowed to remove students
    from Black History Month lessons

And it is only 1/4th the way through
    Black History Month 2021

Taxpayer support of race sensitizing activities should end.

Those children might truly mature color blind if not for . . . being reminded of them & those.

That's just wishful thinking. While racial awareness classes may not be a panacea by any means, it's better than turning a blind eye.

I think I like Farid Zacharias' solution of requiring students to serve a year with students from other parts to participate in civil service projects. The only way to eliminate fear of the other is to know who that other is as a person.

There is a reason why those who have attended universities tend to favor equality because they have met and become friends with people that they normally would not have met in their home towns.

I identify as black in February of every year. So my wife and kids don't see me for a month but they get over it.

    What's there to "spell out"?

Being exposed to people from other races and cultures generally builds experiences that they are not nameless "others". At the very least, it creates tolerance.

STOP GOV"T APPROVED COLOR & ANCESTRY CODING.
    Pity the multi racial folks

And stop teaching the coding system as gospel in
tax payer supported institutions such as public schools
The alternative is to foster racism!

Yep, the more the blacks seek to point out their skin color the more they segregate themselves. I can hear the NAACP now, "Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever." George Wallace must be cheering from the grave.

It’s the white mans fault black fathers run out on their kids!!!! Actually no. But just about every other issue in the black community can be tracked right back to this. Poverty. Violence. Gangs.

I'll preface my post with Im a caucasion male.

This categorizing is kind of a double edge sword. I see its importance BUT IMO its more important to stop such categorizing . We simply arent helping the cause

The day we no longer have to say "The 1st black swimmer with a Gold Medal" or the 1st Female astronaut is when we can say we have surpassed our issues with racism and prejudice etc

I remember we use to have a Miss Black America. Why was there such a need? Did someone think Black women couldnt compete with caucasion women in a beauty contest?

Heck i remember going gooo gagag Phyllis George who was on the NFL pre game on Sundays. Man, that woman was a knockout. Then one day I see Jane Kennedy - holy cow!

Skin Color, gender, ethnicity - none of that should matter. We need to ditch it

exactly... whites should all feel ashamed of what some whites did over 100 years ago as since color of skin was the same, just because of that

im all for being exposed to other cultures. Black history month isn’t that. It’s having one race and one narrative shoved down your throat, repeatedly talking about the same handful of people, and telling you you are racist.

no other race or group gets nearly the “exposure” that black people do.

I think all “races” would benefit by doing away with the racial identity crap. There are humans, and that is all. Call out racists and acknowledge they are *******s, but don’t make the divide between races deeper when there should not be any divide.
