What? Lawn bowls played at the top level is a great game to watch. Much better than skittles or ten pin bowling or whatever you call it.

Do you pass by hitting the ball with your hand? Can you pass forward?

Uh, no, that is entirely a British sport. Soccer/football all over the place, a tiny bit of basketball and less of other sports.

No wait! Playing hooky is quite popular! Not much of a spectator sport though.

Yes, forgot that one. You have to hit the ball with the hand to pass (or kick). You can't throw it.

Ha. Yes I did. But on reflection I thought it might be a bit rude to tell an Aussie how Aussie rules is played :aww:

I love the bit about being able to actually climb up an opponent to catch a pass.

Well, I'm not a REAL Aussie! So it would have been okay!

I liked the shape of the pitch. Can't think of another football derived sport that isn't played on a square pitch. Or any thing other than cricket really.

Yes, it makes for spectacular athletics. I'm probably a bit of a biased opinion, but it is a fun sport to watch.

May I ask where you are from? DRC = Congo?

Softball where you are required to chug a beer or your run doesn't count.

When I was younger we had a "league" that met at a park every Sunday during the summer. We threw bases on the ground, the keg in some ice and split up into teams. Number of players in the field determined by number of players present, often as many as 20 on the field at a time but no more than 5 in close when the ladies batted. Innings ended when there were three outs or a team drank all their beer and needed refills. Regulation was one keg but usually we went into extra innings and needed a 2nd one.

One time we were playing and a cop pulled up, just sat there 15 minutes before someone said they knew him. Beer was not exactly legal there. The guy went and chatted with him and came back and uncovered the keg. The cop said we were the best show in town and was just enjoying it.

Oh, by the way, while you had to chug a beer for a run to count is true nobody had any idea of what the score was.

I should note that the park was always cleaner than we found it when we left. We may have been, ahem, a bit tipsy, but we were good neighbors.

DRC does in fact = Democratic Republic of the Congo. Got a total of 20 years here and fully expect to be buried here. Originally lived near Chicago.

Isn't that played on a diamond which is just a slightly squashed square?
I don't really know much about softball or baseball, we played rounders.

Amazing. I bet you have some stories. Uganda and Ethiopia under my belt so far.

I would like to try next, the Gambia, Ghana, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Madagascar in any order.

Once I have my Africa legs I might try, SA, Nigeria or DRC et al. but too nervous thus far. I don't think my "danger, turn back" radar is well enough cultivated yet.

    Anyhow, off topic...

The bases are supposed to be square, not ours of course. The field itself can be pretty much any shape.

Off topic is fine in here.
Only rule is must be interesting or educational.
    Or funny.

So is the boundary for a home run circular or oval like it is in cricket?

Thanks, good to know. I know you're a bit of a stickler, and I actually like that. I like rules - or rather, don't like chaos.

No, I'm not a stickler, I just try not to upset those who are.
Off topic conversations are often the most interesting IMO.

You have to hit the ball between the lines from Home (where the batter is) to and through the first base and the third base. So the batter is actually near the crowd at one end. There is normally a fence designating home runs, in our case sobriety was a major factor in running a home run.

There' been a concerted effort by some to turn my hobby of juggling into a competitive sport. Particularly by an American juggler called Jason Garfield. He even argues that it should be an Olympic sport. His plan involved ''athletes'' competing in routines similar to gymnastics or figure skating where you were judged on a set of required moves or tricks and how you link them together.
This just started a huge debate in the juggling community over whether it was a sport or an art.
Other competitions such as endurance are played at conventions ie who can juggle 7 clubs without dropping for the longest. Trouble is these are not particularly interesting to watch. The record for juggling 5 balls for example is 2hrs 41 mins and 26 seconds.
Joggling has also been tried, running while juggling.
IMO the most successful is Combat or Gladiators, where players juggle three clubs and attempt to disrupt other people's juggling until they drop. This can be played in melees with massed jugglers or in one on one battles.

Another fun to watch game is volleyclub, based on the rules of volleyball.
