There have been more COVID 19 deaths in the United Stares than there are electrical engineers.

Something like 85% of deaths have been of people over 65. Most the rest over 55. Most with other underlying health problems. Epidemics are nature’s way of culling the herds.

We did not have modernity for a millennia. Modernity is a rather recent development. Before electricity, during the long dark winter nights people huddled around the warmth and dim light of the fireplace and read by candle light. News and messages traveled no faster than a horse could carry a man. Electrical engineering is the fulfillment of the liberal ideal. The using of a deep understanding of the workings of nature and harnessing it in a way that has improved the human condition, allowed us to live longer, healthier, more productive lives. Electrical Engineers have given us electrical lighting, telephone communications, the radio and television, recorded music, the computer, the internet, 3D computer generated graphics, video games, provided the equipment that has made modern medicine possible, robotics and AI. The electric motor has relieved man of all manner of manual labors, from washing machines, to cutting tools in construction and factories, to food processing machines. Makes possible HVAC, especially air conditioning. Electric motors are the engines that power the conveyer belts that tie workers to the assembly line. Imagine your automobile without electricity. No starter motor, no headlights, no radio. We know how clean the water we drink is, and how clean the air we breathe, because of electronic devices that have been designed to measure such things. Without the efforts of electrical engineers and their technicians, we would not be having this conversation.

Electric power is the ultimate in freedom. No one can hold it in monopoly. It is everywhere, freely available to those who know how to harness it.

What you say is true I believe for physics majors as well I had someone with a PHD in physics working for me as a contractor when I was a mid level manager in a Federal agency. He had taught physics and was intelligent, but had very poor written communication skills. I once assigned him to do a PowerPoint presentation. What he gave me was simplistic and poor quality -- unacceptable in an environment where slick PowerPoint presentations were the norm. I asked him how someone with a PHD in physics could produce a product of such poor quality and he explained that at the University where he came from presentations involved chalk and a blackboard. After I retired and felt like working, I used to get paid a lot of money for technical writing, mainly writing technical proposals for bidding on Federal contracts. Yet I got an F in High School Physics. I guess it all comes down to supply and demand.

It's all out there. Many deaths were falsified and nurses have admitted to it.

A infant in CT was accidentally suffocated by its caretakers. Ted Lamont the govenor put down covid 19 and said the first infant had died from covid. Candace Owens proved he was lying and the baby was suffocated and he went on tv to say he did not actually know how the baby died. I follow Candace and saw this myself. After that backfired for Ted multiple news articles came out of different states apologizing for blaming covid for multiple kids deaths.

Open your eyes and see the truth.

So you pick and choose who you care most about.

Cancer kills over 600,000 people every year. Covid is almost 2 years old and has not killed that many yet..

Of course you know that’s a false statement. And I don’t “think” things, I post verifiable facts.

You once made the claim Portland taxes subsidized rural Oregon. I pointed out using US census data that per capita, rural Oregon residents pay more taxes than Portland residents. In fact, the Portland metro area contains 60% of Oregon’s population, but only generates 55% of state income tax revenue. So in reality, Portland is being subsidized by the rest of the state.

Since you brought it up again it’s a pleasure to again show most everything you post is factually incorrect. And facts don’t care about your feelings. :)

He missed an opportunity to make it really impactful. 325 thousand engineers is really peanuts compared to the fact that there are trillions of galaxies in the universe. I believe we call that a red herring.

How is it a false statement? Did I not say that you think rural America subsidizes the cities? Is that not what you then went on to claim, once again? Obviously you think that rural Oregon subsidizes Portland.

Most of America’s fruits and vegetables come from California, on farms worked by migrant farm workers who are mostly Mexicans and Mexican-Americans.

Rural Oregon does subsidize Portland. LOL. I just posted the statistics that prove it.

I have often found technical writers annoying because they tend to not be all that technical. That their knowledge only goes so deep. So there is a trade off. A technical person who isn’t all that articulate or an articulate writer who isn’t all that technical. As I tend to model things on the computer as part of the design process, it makes it relatively easy to then create IKEA like assembly drawings, which factory workers tend to prefer over tortured written instructions.

Says that I'm willing to be rational on the subject. Try these numbers 500k out of 340milion. Or 5 in 3400 or a little more than 1 in 700. For that we destroyed the economy ruined peoples lives and killed more than a few we did manage to make a few corporate oligarchs enormously more wealthy including the sellers of antidepressants.

The primary contributing factor is old age. The older one is, the more likely one is to become infected and die.

So show me data that disputes my US census data! It would be cool if just once you offered something besides your easily disproved opinions. You won’t though. It’s the progressive way—feelings trump facts with you every time. :)

I have concluded that we could use fewer electrical engineers and more technicians to repair the monstrosities they create.

Of course you are spreading more misinformation.
California is the biggest domestic producer, but doesn’t come close to producing most of our fruits and vegetables. LOL. You guys....

They tried that in a lawsuit a few years back. They being the mostly impotent Republican operatives in Oregon. They argued that Oregon state financial resources should be split evenly between the counties, arguing, among other things, that rural folk have a higher average income and pay more in taxes, and thus subsidize Portland and Salem. It seems to me that the judge laughed them out of court.

Simple math shows it to be as silly as it is. Even assuming what 557 says is true, then, for instance there are 100 people, each paying a $100 tax, which comes up to $10,000 for a rural county. Say the city folks only pay $80 in taxes. But there are 100,000 of them. Thus the total tax for the city is $8,000,000. Surely that $10,000 doesn’t mean squat compared to $8,000,000.

In Oregon the highest incomes are in Washington and Multnohma counties. It is also where the most profitable businesses are. A lot of big finance flows through Portland. Take a tour of the Nike or Intel campus and then tell me a rag tag collection of farmers, loggers, and truck drivers subsidize anything. It is rather funny to think about it.
