In case you did not realize, I was not proposing having a waiting period law.
I was proposing modifying ones that already exist. Because that would be politically easier than trying to get rid of them, and might actually have a realistic chance of getting passed into law.

In politics there's a difference between what you want and what you can get done.
Sometimes you have to settle for an alternative you don't like because it's better than the status quo.

Why would you ignore this? It's not logical. You're just being blockheaded.
Like a screaming little child. "No, I don't want the yellow lollypop, I want the blue one!"
"They're all out of blue ones today, you can't have it"
    "Waaaaa!"

Yes, but they exist in many states.
    This isn't all about you.

Sorry for taking a demeaning tone, but I'm just getting frustrated having to repeatedly explain this over and over again.

I didn't think you were, which is why I phrased my question the way I did. There isn't a national waiting and very few states have them. Those that do aren't likely to weaken them.

That may be true, but it's worth a try.

A much higher chance that they could be weakened than gotten rid of.

Why not push for something that is more realistic and has a better chance of working?

I don't see any possible rational logic that could be used against this idea.
What argument could they possibly use to argue against it?

Maybe at the very least, if they fight against it it will make them look blatantly illogical and unreasonable.

You attribute logic whereas all they use is emotion. We have no waiting period in Tx.

    No deal.

How would prolonged waiting periods help anything? I can get a background check to work in federal prisons within 30 min. I can get a gun background with the same accuracy in the same time because it’s the same background report. They get the same info so why have it take longer?

    Another person who didn't read?

    Get lost.

Go read the rest of this thread before you respond.

Never did I suggest the waiting period should be prolonged.

I replied to the OP, is that against the rules? Prolonged waiting periods will obtain no extra information on the purchaser than is already obtained now.

if that fact upsets you it’s because it’s a pisspoor idea

Why are you trying to compromise with people who are trying to actively confiscate weapons. The act of compromise is how rights corrode.

You mean like the bump stock ban? Did that stop them from demanding more? Your compromise is just a spineless way of standing up for your rights

Fair enough point. But pushing a compromise proposal is not the same thing as compromising.

You could still support this and continue to push just as hard as you always have for the total elimination of the law.
Is there something about that concept you do not understand?

Sorry, I just get very frustrated because there are multiple people who seem to be totally misunderstanding the OP.

Guess there's no point explaining it over and over again to all of you.

No I couldn’t. That’s giving them one more tool in the tool box to deny rights and I will never support that. People like you are the ones who will justify ownership by government permission rather than by constitutional decree. We inshrined that right into a constitution for a reason.

Which means nothing to the rest of us, why should we join them, they should join us and eliminate their deadly waiting periods .

Yeah, but those particular states happen to have more people than most other states.

Look, I actually did the math myself. Rough napkin paper calculations, but adding together those 10 states plus D.C. came out to a figure between about 31 to 32 percent of the country's population.

Believe it or not, it's still possible for activists to help push legislation in other states.
What goes on in other states will eventually affect you.
A lot of conservatives don't seem to get that.

I never suggested you should join them and implement the same laws they have.

The other day I bought two guns in a sporting goods store. No waiting period. No registration. No permit required. Next week, "constitutional carry" takes effect here. That means any legal gun owner can carry concealed or open, no permit required. Oh, by the way, we don't even pay deposit on bottles and cans here. We are FREE here in so many ways! As a recent "escapee" from the tyranny of California... I LOVE FREE TEXAS!

Best idea is to not have waiting periods. I walked into a sporting goods store and and walked out with two pistols twenty minutes later. NAC check by phone was that quick. WOW! How I love Texas!

We don't have a waiting period in my state. You can buy as many guns as you want at one time in my state. There is no registration of guns in my state. There is no open or concealed carry permit required in my state. There is no magazine size limitation in my state. There is no requirement in my state to follow federal laws regarding silencers in my state, for silencers manufactured in my state.

    YAY TEXAS!!!! WHERE FREEDOM REIGNS!

Keep in mind if you do purchase more than one gun in a single purchase you by regulation will be reported to BATF.

States that don't are safer for the law biding then states with waiting periods, people have been known to get killed waiting for permission from the government to buy a gun for self protection.
