Because a 7th century murdering, raping, pedophile, caravan robber told them to? I forget that some people are allowed all sorts of name-calling on this forum.
I honestly do not believe these people even understand they have no more rights to this country than anybody else. They want to invade countries, force their ideals on people that didn't ask for our help, leave them in tatters and walk away. It's brutal. And, I strongly believe that an Afghani person that helped our side over there is more deserving to live here than the malignant cancer we just fired. He is the epitome of Anti-American and he'd rather burn it to the ground than do what is best for all of us. He's a traitor. No better than Benedict Arnold.
Trump is a traitor. He didn't deserve to be CIC of our military. He thinks they are suckers and losers. That tells you exactly what he thinks of our brave soldiers. All he does is create chaos and destruction. I never, ever, ever thought I'd live to see the day that an American would choose a man(child) over their own country. It disgusts me.
Their service to America has put their lives in danger. So we owe it to them to resettle them to any nation that will welcome them, here or elsewhere. If they favor Democracy and a representative government like America, then bring them here. What else can we do for honors sake.
The whole Afghanistan thing was a total mess and a total failure. If we hadn't turned tail and ran, we wouldn't have to accept ANY Afghan refugees. Now we are on the financial hook for them. These people would have rather lived in Afghanistan if we hadn't handed over the keys to the country to thugs.
“We need to take ALL of them from there who want to come here. If it's millions we'll just have to deport some Trumpers to make room. These people fought FOR this country rather than tried to overthrow it and they risked their lives to help us right a grievous wrong. We OWE them” When all reason, and logic completely fail, post nonsense like this.
We absolutely need to take in everyone who has helped us over the years, as well as their families, and anyone else who may be in danger. I really see no reason why we shouldn't accept anyone who wants to come here. Just process them like any other refugees. The vast vast majority of people there are good people, just like any country on earth.
So to be clear, this isn't really about Afghan refugees to you, you believe in open borders and everyone who wants to come to the US to live should be able to, correct?
As long as they intend to live here peaceably, with good intentions, I don't have any issue with it. But I definitely believe we should make every effort to facilitate those who put their life on the line to help us to come here. They have done more for this country than 90% of Americans will ever do. I wish my old interpreter in Iraq had lived long enough to get to America. Insurgents discovered he was helping us and discovered where he lived. He was found with his throat slashed. That man helped us track down many insurgents, including a bombmaker that killed a good friend of mine. Those interpreters are ****ing heroes, risking more than even us soldiers were for our country.
Your statement isn't about interpreters though, it's about anyone being able to come here. Interesting. Just wanted a confirmation that you really meant what it sounded like you meant.
I have mixed feelings. The big reason I don’t want more people coming here is overpopulation. But that is more of a planetary issue than a US-centric issue. Other than that, I obviously don’t want terrorists or violent criminals getting in. Other than that I don’t have any issue with anyone else coming here. Who would you want to exclude?
That's an issue outside of the scope of this thread, which is about accepting Afghan refugees. Since you want everyone to come, whether they are interpreters or not, that's not really part of this thread. If you think it's odd that there should be exclusions, that's a subject better left to a thread on immigration, but a short answer to your question is: almost everyone.
Yeah, I have no problem with it as long as they don't have ill will towards the US. But, as this thread is about accepting Afghan refugees, we should absolutely accept them. Would you want to live under Taliban rule, just due to an accident of place of birth? or would you want to live in a place where you can be free to live how you want to? What is your opinion on the matter? I think we should facilitate taking anyone who wants to come here, but make special effort to get out the interpreters and their families, because we owe them big time.
This is why I suggested that you start a thread if you want to follow up on your Oprah like view of immigration ("And you get a visa! And you get a visa!"). As far as Afghans go, we have obligations to a very limited number of Afghans, mainly interpreters and their families, not every guy who set up a shop on our outside an American base selling junk. So the number of actual Afghans we owe anything to are probably just a few thousand. Not the million or more the Biden administration will probably allow in.
that clown isn’t even letting in our American citizens stranded there, let alone interpreters and their families still stranded there. Your point of view sounds far more like a Biden supporter than mine does. The administration is probably not trying to bring them in because Afghanis have a far more conservative outlook than immigrants coming in the southern border. So, no extra votes from bringing them in, which is all politicians care about.
The U.S. ? This was the Biden Administration's fault. Now America must pay the bill. One wonders whether this might have even been an actual consideration in favor of abandoning Afghanistan. Certainly many in the Administration must have been giggling in glee at the prospect of so many refugees. Of course America has already betrayed its allies. But they would be betraying them even more of some of those people were not allowed to flee. The Taliban seems to have a long kill list. Anyone who had sided with the Americans is being hunted down. Of course hundreds of terrorists are probably going to sneak in with the refugees.
I think we need to accept those Afghans that aided our military directly and their immediate family ie spouse and children. I am not sure where the 150,000 number comes from but that seems extremely high. I would like to see examples of the people that qualify in that 150,000. Parents, cousins etc... should not count and they can go through the regular process to apply for their entry.
I would give it up in a heartbeat, if it would help end the curse of globalism. In fact I did give it up.
As long as they are not terrorists and don’t seek to harm the country, why not? They are trying to escape a barbaric and violent regime that we allowed to take over, a regime that is totally against the freedoms that we have promoted in the afghan population for the last 20 years. The least we can do is give them the chance to continue to experience those freedoms. What is it you fear so much about them? Do you think that they are all just suicide bombers at heart?
Your POV isn't even a Biden supporter. It's Taliban, and in fact worse even than them. Turning on people that helped you out of nothing but pure and naked bigotry is disgusting.
