Hatred of Jews seems to be never ending, the Nazi spirit lives on. Often antisemitism is caricatured as a phenomenon of the right, but it's clear it lies firmly embedded in the black hearts of leftist global elites today.

    https://www.jns.org/opinion/the-hate-fest-that-is-durban-rears-its-ugly-head-again/

"At Durban, it violently erupted in the diseased body of “human rights” culture like a global cancer. Under the imprimatur of the United Nations, Durban embedded and normalized the demonizing of Israel and Jew-baiting—the apartheid libel, the insane claim that Israel was committing genocide and the grotesque equation of Israelis with the Nazis, which have now poisoned much of the Western “progressive” mind."

    Yeah, progressive, very progressive.

We equate way too many things with the Nazi's these days.

...but, is it possible to oppose the state of Israel's policy towards the Palestinians without being antiemetic?

I have worked in US Defense, in and out of uniform, for decades. The Israelis have been great partners in defense. From a Stinger Missile Training System they built for us, to their ARROW missile guidance system we now use on Patriot PAC-3, to their IRON DOME technology we now use under the name C-RAM (Counter-Rocket, Artillery Mortar) and more.... they are good friends and partners.

The left seem to love Jews when they’re being slaughtered, but despise them when they defend themselves.

Lots of places are great defense partners. That doesn't mean that we should support everything they do no matter what.

My point is that it isn't antiemetic to oppose certain policies of the Israeli government.

Along the way I had the opportunity to live in Tel Aviv and work in Holon for about four months. I found the Isreali people to be downright wonderful (With the exception of of one Hassidic cab driver that was unfriendly because I wasn't Jewish), the food fantastic (nothing like stateside Jewish food), and the country breathtakingly beautiful.

I do not doubt anything you said here.

Is it possible to disagree with the policies of their government without hating the people?

Nice to discuss without the normal insults. Thank you.

What specific Israeli policies do you not approve of?

I am not really trying to debate specific policies since the thread is mainly about antisemitism. I am trying to see where the line is between antisemitism and disagreement with the state of Israel?

I have seen people called antiemetic for something as benign referring to Gaza as occupied territory.

I also have more than one relative who supports the state of Israel, but he believes that the Jews in the US should go there and stay forever. So he supports israel, but IMO is anti-Semitic.

I can understand that. I grew up in a New York City suburb that was over 98% Jewish. Jeff Gifford (Frank's son) and I were the only Christians on the town's 8th grade football team. We routinely found our clothes in the toilet when practice finished. I have many similar stories. I never found Israeli Jews to ever act like that.

I think we can all agree that high school aged kids (of any group) can be terrible.

Not in my experience. I grew up in anotherwise very civilized town.

Want more example's? Ok. The only business in the town center that was not Jewish was a shoe repair shop owned by a nice guy name Vaccaro. There was a meeting at the Jewish Community Center and it was decided to boycott the shop to force it out of business so that there would be no non-Jewish shops in the area.

I was actually quite anti-Jewish as a result of lots of similar things that happened growing up in the NYC burbs. Then, years later, I found myself Commanding a Basic Training Company at Fort Leonard Wood. There was a Senior Drill Sergeant in my Company named Roger Caron. He was a true leader who inspired the young recruits in his charge in amazing ways. I had the honor of standing up with him as he was awarded "Drill Sergeant of the Year' at TRADOC Headquarters. That did a lot to change my attitude. It must be noted, however, that he was from Ohio, not NY.

I don't need more examples. I don't have a problem with Jewish people or any other group of people. Not sure if you concluded otherwise, but if you did, you don't need to worry about that.

Yes it is. Now if we could make it common to do the same with the Palestinians.....

There was a lot of friction between the Jews and Italians - especially in certain parts of New York City. A Jewish person told me that on an Italian holiday, the 'mafia' would force the Jewish business' to close. So the pressure on the poor Italian shoe repairman was probably retaliation. What a pity because I loved the Italian 'shoemakers' and really missed them. The companies that took over later on were never the same.

Then there was the denigrating of Italians in Hollywood, when we see in Ukraine that the Jewish mafias are just as bad. Jews then again
were not allowed in places like the Westchester country club or towns like Garden City. I recall when companies avoided hiring a Jewish person since the Jews themselves would only show preference to other Jews - so that the company would eventually become Jewish. This went on in Hollywood too, although the truth is that they are highly talented in the theater. (I used to watch Yiddish programs although I couldn't understand a word)

Some of the problems stem from cultural differences and some from political differences because Jews in Europe had different historical experiences. This is why the Jews tend to be liberal rather than conservative. There's also the social and business encounters since many Christian societies believe in being a 'good sport' when it comes to money. Jews in contrast are more cautious with their money.

This doesn't mean the Jews aren't highly charitable. I remember how the Catholic Father Benedict Groechel would praise them for their generosity. I also know that if someone helped save their lives in WWII, they would support them for the rest of their lives.

As for Israel, of course their actions are cruel but do they have an alternative? The fact that Islam believes Israel is a Muslim holyland and is willing to have the Palestinian people suffer and die to take it back, doesn't mean that it should be given back. Wouldn't that be unjust
to the millions of displaced people of the last century? Shouldn't those people be given their lands back as well? So how far back should we go in returning lands? Should we go back to the Roman Empire?

Indeed, so long as you equally oppose Palestinian policy towards Jews without being anti Muslim.

Let’s hear it against Palestinian policy of executing anyone who sells land to a Jew, or Palestinian policy of abducting and torturing any Jew wondering into any Palestinian town. Hey, how about opposing Palestinian policy of storing weapons in skruls and hospitals?

None of it will be mentioned in any UN conferences.

I think you're always going to have tension in the Middle East when there's people who want to kill the Jews and Jews who don't want to be killed and neither side is willing to compromise :D

I’m with ya. I fear Israel’s enemies there would be OK with a compromise that goes something like, “OK, we compromise, we kill half the Jews.”

Isn’t it ironic that more American Muslims voted for Trump than did Jews?

Why would not they? They are fed, employed, enjoy the freedom of religion and not being thrown off tall buildings for being gays, their kids are being educated and... They can vote for anyone they want to!

    Life is good!

As for Jews not voting for Trump - whenever one feels inclined to judge himself harshly because he feels stoopid, dumb, uneducated, or just generally unprepared for life, remember... There are literal Jewish antizionists out there :D

And they can’t do that under a Democrat president? One would assume they would get better perks under the latter. I wouldn’t be surprised though if the data showed that more Sunni Muslims voted for Trump than Shiites did. The former have always been historical allies with the Right-Wing West (the Nazi alliance with the Sunni Arabs and Ottomans for example).

Perhaps. My theory is that despite all that Trump did for the Jews, it just wasn’t enough for the latter. Their tribalistic mindset precludes them from trusting a strong white male personality like Trump, especially given their general miss-trust and arrogance towards the goy.
