In 2001 we had a new President who barely won. He was under pressure to make his cabinet half Democrat. We were coming off the first female Secretary of State and only a few critical aspects of national security were compromised. The new President's family is bigoted (denying their Native American and gypsy ancestry). He had to get a second term to outperform his father. He was dumb and didn't want to be overshadowed by the staff.
So Powell's appointment to that job is also tainted.

So the real test is whether he did a good job as Secretary of State.
    I'll start.
He did better than Thomas Jefferson and Timothy Pickering.

That's Kurds who died with the military help of the US, the US knowing this, and looking the other way because they were backing Saddam up to fight Iran. It took 30 years for the US to flip flop on that out of pure convenience, yet still ignore they got blood on their hands. And now the US got blood on their hands of 100,000's of Iraqi's who died because of lies. Lies told by Powell!

It's all rather colonialistic how the US and it's supporters do not care how many people died because of their lies, actions and policies.
A 9/11 attack is not worth mentioning compared to the legacy of Powell's lies.

They can't ignore the fact he would have been in jail for many years if he had refused to go to war to kill Asians. It's easy to find any excuse to look down on someone. Also how exactly can any black person follow in his footsteps. just joining the army and following orders for 40 years rarely works, even for white guys with prominent fathers.
