It's wilful ignorance mostly. Almost all crappy food choices are predicated upon laziness - my own included.

we had other things as well. in new orleans we are accustomed to hurricanes and prepare accordingly.we also shared everything we had in the neighborhoodm which included frozen food that could not stay frozen and masses of vegetables. about a week in we had a national guard helicopter deliver a few boxes of mres and some bottled water. greatly appreciated, i assure you.

the mre s compare favorably with the c rations we carried in viet nam. lighter, tasty enough, and nutritious.

Yes, some, poor people cheat to survive.....the wealthy cheat to cheat some more....but they know that cowards will not challenge THEM !

:) I have no idea what your post has to do with the post of mine you quoted....except I know you like to argue over nothing..;)

I haven’t much interest in flying anymore, but I’d sure like to see your country for myself. I’ve always been interested in your landscape and biological diversity. But your culture is fascinating as well. I would have guessed school lunch would fall right in line with your healthcare system. (But I know your “free healthcare” isn’t what people here envision). From the perspective of a yank your country is a study in contradictions. At least we are consistently nuts here. :) You seem to have glaring flashes of sensibility still down there.

Help me understand the working class attending private school thing. Why don’t they attend public school?

Good point. Good food often involves hard work and mental engagement.

Don’t ya’ll keep a generator for the freezer? Sharing resources amongst the community? Are you some kind of socialist too? Kidding. LOL

It’s my experience there are just a lot of good people down there. We know some folks from around Grand Lake that are some of the most generous people I know. They just got their house rebuilt from a tornado during the last hurricane they had there. Can’t remember it’s name. Bonus, he’s a bonafide Cajun gator hunter and his stories keep this Midwesterner entertained.

Thanks for the info on MRE’s. I don’t store anything like that because we grow and preserve most of our own food. I have heard good things about this company from a podcast I listen to. Supposed to be more complete nutrition from a micronutrient standpoint than standard MRE’s.

here are 4 secrets about generators

    1. it is difficult to keep them dry in a flood, and they do not work wet.
    2. they require gasoline. lots of it.
    3. they require space and distance from a house. tough to fit in an urban environment.
    4. they make noise. lots of noise. enough to attract police ("i'm sorry sir, but we need that generator for the hospital." ) and worse.

since then i've added a few solar panels. still not enough to run major appliances, but i can run some lights and keep the telephones charged. limit here is south facing and unshaded roof space.

i am not a bona fide socialist, but do not tell that secret to our conservative friends. there are degrees of socialism. and to some degree i think that many services and utilities should be employee owned or consumer owned rather than left to the whims of wall st central planners.

Yes, they are. But that's not what happened this time. The republicans aren't great about this little "strategy" either, which is probably the primary reason we get these monster 5,000 page "we gotta pass it to see what's in it" bills in the first damn place. Though it does seem to happen more with the dems, and you've got people running around this very forum trying to JUSTIFY it because "Filibuster".

However, go back and read the original link I posted and you'll see this was done literally unilaterally, with no congressional games being played, by the Biden administration themselves. I'd bet a good portion of Congress members don't even know it happened, as seems to be the case with most forum members here. With the swipe of a presidential pen, boom, the program increased by 21% by saying these won't work for food bums (because we reward that behavior by giving it to them for free) actually need more calories, as if a lot of them aren't obese to begin with.

So what? In a country where the vast majority of any random group of people is going to be white, that just makes logical, mathematical sense. Leave it to the left to play the race card in a thread about a topic that has zero to do with race.

Wait, wut?? You flat up stole money from some random stranger and you do not feel bad about it? I'm guessing that makes you part of the problem, then, no? No conscious.

Is the 1.2 trillion dollars of government pork and freebies that was just passed the dem's fault, or not?

Will you take responsibility for that? You wanted that, right?

I work nights at a gas station of course I make too much money to qualify for food stamps.

But I do run people's EBT cards on the register and sometimes I see the receipts they left behind.

Some of them have well over a $2,000 balance.
How in the sam hell does anyone get that much in food stamps?

You really have to ask that? Because they can and should be paying their own damn bills. Dunno 'bout you, but I've spent 3 decades paying for other folks bills and I'm sick and tired of it. They can pay for their own food, they can pay for their own cell phones, they can pay for their own Internet, and yes, they can pay the tuition for their kids schooling. It's not my job, I don't know these people, and I SHOULD NOT be obligated to pay their bills. Yet I am. And the more time passes, the more of their bills I'm expected to pay, now we're looking at free pre-K AND free Community College. Oh, don't forget, free day care, and who knows WHAT else is buried in these 5,000 page monster bills they're trying to pass to make more and more and more people dependent on government while the rest of us pay more and more and more towards total strangers bills.

Frankly, even if they DON'T have jobs they should pay for their own damn food anyway. Starvation is a very powerful motivator to get able bodied people off their couches and working SOME job SOME where. Like those jobs that "American's won't do..."? If their choice is do those jobs or starve, you bet your bippy they'll be lining up to them.

No such bill was passed, we did pass one for much-needed repair of infrastructure and other things.

I’m usually the first PF member to become aware of information on Covid and pass it on to others in an attempt to get them to use lifestyle to prevent Covid. I started in April of 2020 by showing people they could protect themselves by exercising regularly. I also pointed out exercise and proper weight would lead to better immunity from eventual Covid vaccines eight months before they were available.

I was also the first person to inform PF obesity does in fact increase your chance of being infected in July of 2021. Of course this information was met with doubt and ridicule at the time just like you are using doubt and ridicule in your active denial of science here in our exchange.
I’m not the only one that knows how individuals can protect themselves and others from Covid through personal lifestyle choices on health. Those doing the research know. But public health officials and doctors are not doing their job of informing you. Proven by the fact you did not know about the higher transmission risk of obese persons.

It’s sad you don’t have the information necessary to protect yourself. It’s borderline criminal for public health officials to withhold the information from you.

It’s is a FACT soda and candy have contributed greatly to the severity of the Covid pandemic in the US. Just like it’s a fact obesity increases chance of infection and a fact exercise snd proper weight result in better immunity from vaccination. Your denial of science hurts you and others. What I post is based on science. It is not unsubstantiated opinions like you post. As always, you are more than welcome to provide evidence my posts on health and Covid are incorrect. Post any peer reviewed or pre-print study you want to counter my presented evidence. Go ahead. But you won’t because that evidence doesn’t exist. And deep down you know your denial of science is based on your feelings, not evidence.
