This is going to become more and more of an issue, as the supply of white students in urban areas drop, there is going to be more of a tussle for the remainder of them for purposes of "integration."

In Minneapolis Schools, White Families Are Asked to Help Do the Integrating

MINNEAPOLIS — When Mauri Friestleben learned that Minneapolis was rolling out a new school integration plan — and that the school she led, a predominantly Black, low-income high school, would soon include white students from some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in town — she looked around and proudly considered all that her school had to offer.

But in some phone conversations with potential new families, Ms. Friestleben, the principal, sensed deep skepticism.

Parents peppered her with questions. Exactly how many A.P. courses did her school offer? Was Spanish the only language option? Would their children be safe walking from the bus? Some even wondered how she had gotten their number and asked her not to call again.

If white families don't enthusiastically grasp the opportunity to send their kids to urban minority schools, are they racist?

For white and more affluent parents, the new school plan also landed with a thud.

In southern neighborhoods newly rezoned to North, real estate agents began to hear from families selling their homes. At one point, images circulated on social media of a sign outside a coveted elementary school, where the students, 60 percent white, would eventually be assigned to North.

The sign depicted a tombstone. “R.I.P.,” it read. “This will destroy our community.”

One big challenge for the district was that families could still choose charter or suburban schools. In one part of the new zone, which includes some of the more affluent neighborhoods, just 15 percent of new families assigned to North decided to attend, according to district figures.

    Just 15%? Could it be...racism?

    And now for the chaser:

So when it comes to their own children, "life long Democrats" might as well be in the Klan.

You don't mess with rich, white parents and their children. They don't play games when it comes to their own children. The parents will take their children out of that school and put them in private school if necessary. Those who stay will want to whip that school into shape! This desegregation plan might be the best thing to happen to that school. It will force the school to address its weaknesses.

    This is a legit problem.

Whatever genius decided that the best way to lift people up, is to tear others down, needs to be fired.

I don't have the answers, but I do know for sure that forcing kids into lessor schools is wrong. To my thinking, this is the biggest problem with socialism; dragging everyone to an equal mediocrity.

All things stems from education, though. There is overwhelming evidence that educated people make better decisions. Haiti has the poorest educated people on earth. It shows.

We fix a ton of crime and poverty, if we fix education.

Although generally I agree with that, in practice, we've been trying to "fix" education for decades. We've spent trillions, tried multiple plans, and are not much further along than we've ever been.

This may shock you, but the only way to fix it is to get the fed out of it. They have no constitutional obligation to control education, and they can **** off. Teachers unions should not be legal, and put it all in local control.

the rich can only benefit by helping to get their poorest neighbors an education.

School choice is the logical alternative. If parents don't like the performance of a school, they will move them to a better performing school. Blacks and whites will both benefit from that because the school system will have to perform to attract students.

We’d be better off if we did follow the Constitution.

Agreed - forcing children into lesser schools because of their curriculum is a really bad idea. I'm hoping, as you've suggested, that it will bring up the standards in those schools so that ALL children can get a good education.

I'm sure, somewhere in the mix of people, there are racists. But I think that many of those people are concerned about the quality of education their children will receive.

Well that has the advantage of being a lot cheaper, but I don't know if it will bring any better educational results.

this stuff is never going to stop unless people start asking themselves who cares?

These people think by white people existing they are racist so you're already racist embrace it and don't care.

If people called me racist for wanting the best for my children I wouldn't care. If people called me racist or not disadvantaging my children for the sake of other people I wouldn't care.

If that's what racist was I'd wear the moniker with Honor. That's the only way you defeat this nonsense.
so if this indicates anything it's that forcing people to go to a school based on where they live is a problem. First and foremost they can just move. More affluent people can do it a lot easier cuz they can just go buy another house.

The sign depicted a tombstone. “R.I.P.,” it read. “This will destroy our community.”[/QUOTE] I don't think it will end the community it will just move it. It will end the location
in my state and I figure this is how it works and most places schools are funded by property taxes.

If living in this neighborhood means your kids have to go to a **** School, the property value will decrease and since taxes are set by property value they're not going to get that money if they do it won't be for long because those houses in that neighborhood will go down in value. So it's really just about spreading blight. Or a better way to put that is making people equal by cutting them down. People who can afford to buy out will.

It's evident to everybody that Democrats are the issue. Look at San Francisco. People are living cars because the constituency doesn't want affordable housing built anywhere near them. We see the same thing in Portland, Seattle, Washington DC, new York City.

When people actively protest affordable housing they are directly starting the people that can't afford it are not equal to them.
