DARPA Funded Researchers Accidentally Create The World's First Warp Bubble - The Debrief
Wow! From this day forward the creation of a Warp Bubble is no longer science fiction but a physical reality. It's no longer against the laws of physics to travel faster than the speed of light. :)

Warp bubbles are Star Trek science fiction. At that speed your insides would turn to mush unless you had the mitigating energy fields to prevent that, which also don't exist...

Isn't the space around you moving in a warp field? You would essentially be sitting still.

That's what I thought. Hence the "bubble"

In Star Trek it's called an IDF, inertial dampening field. They also have to use a navigational deflector to clear the path ahead of them from space debris a million km ahead of them. Like I said, science fiction...

Of course it's science fiction. But so was the flying machine and the submarine. Some of us are dreamers. It's fun to dream.

Warp bubbles were science fiction, but now it seems that they are science fact.

It is such a wonderful place we live. A warp drive is the only way to travel the galaxy. To have the possibility for a man to go to a star and return to see his loved ones in their lifetimes. I mean....I am fortunate. I got to see a man walk on the moon. Someone may one day be fortunate to se man return from another star system.

Hate to 'rain on the parade' but Dr White has been working on warp theory and related engineering projects for many years now and previously the only results he has publicly reported are some anomalous, extremely faint instrument readings. Furthermore to the best of knowledge these latest results have not been reproduced independently by other researchers. Which is pretty much standard scientific protocol in such cases. Now its possible I suppose that much more than this has been achieved in recent years that is not being reported in the public domain but if so the public won't be privy to them for some time.

As for the article, from time to time ones like the one linked at the top of this thread appear in popular science and technology press because the idea of warp drive has of course captured the public's imagination. We all want it to be true, (hell I want it to be true) but wanting it and getting it are two entirely different things. What is true as far as I can tell is that there have been no peer reviewed articles on this recent finding in any of the relevant journals. (Happy to be proven wrong on this BTW.) One may be on the offing and is so we'll know more then. Until then however it might be a case of curbing our enthusiasm.

I've had my eye on Dr. White for several years now. I was introduced to him several years ago on this old thread topic:
NASA now working on an actual WAP DRIVE!!!

He's been working on this warp drive idea for years now, first at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab and later he left NASA and started a private company, and it looks like he's found some success in that endeavor. If you want to go with the secrecy argument that he wouldn't be allowed to reveal this discovery to the public, for a long time, I counter with the argument that he was probably allowed to do this because of all the money $$$ involved in bringing this topic area to the public.

This accidental warp bubble is not big, but it definitely is the real deal. So, this is a counter-argument against those who would say that space is too big and we'll never get to explore it because of the vast distances and speed of light velocity limit. It shows that it's physically possible to bend and warp space.

As I said. He has to get his results peer reviewed, published and if possible replicated. Until that happens it doesn't really 'show' anything for certain. It might one day soon but it doesn't yet.

Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words, but ok, let's wait for peer review. It's the "logical" thing to do.

True. The only plausible cause for delay would be if he's having trouble himself reproducing/repeating the original result in question using his test rig. (Plus maybe it takes time to set up each test run or something, I wouldn't know.) Apart from that the only reason I can think of for delay would be the need to repeat the experiment multiple times so that you both confirm your original readings and have a significant (statistical useful) number of 'positive' results to publish in your paper.

OK, I just found this which goes into more details about the experiments being conducted by Dr White and his team.

    https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2021/12/sonny-white-claims-nanoscale-warp-bubble-is-possible.html

Turns out the tests they are conducting are being conducted (as I had read previously) at the level of the Casimir effect i.e. the sub micron level. He has proposed that constructing a device at the 1- 4 micron level might yield some interesting evidence in support of the effect he is investigating but is not proposing to do so himself.

At the moment and from memory his research still seems to involve using finely tuned laser interpreters to detect subtle distortions in space/time due to whatever effect it is his team are trying to generate. As per the article at the start of this thread he seems to be reporting that they have (tentatively) detected an example of the kind of anomaly they were looking for.

There's no indication that the results have been replicated nor has the 'anomaly' been confirmed as definitive proof of the the warp effect he's trying to produce. It follows also that no-one else has reproduced his results yet either, if only because they've only just been announced. So as per my previous post I would suggest we all curb our enthusiasm pending a verified report that Dr White has consistently generated the defect he is looking for, others have been able to reproduce his results and/or he gets published.

So sadly no confirmation yet that humanity is about to 'boldly go' any time in the near future. :(
