I'm not sure how really strategic the RMI is. How many of their requests should we give them? Could they go with someone else instead:
I think compensation for health an environmental damage is more than fair, especially to keep such an important strategic site in the Pacific.
China would love to build a submarine base there as well as in the Solomon Islands. They have very little power, but lots of leverage. We will take of them. The more Chinese bases, the more resources we need for military planning. IMO, China and Russia are trying to do to the US what Prez Regan did with Star Wars: bankrupt our adversary.
