France has declared "kill the infidel" preaching will not be allowed in a small town in the north of the country. When did all this come about?

    https://www.naharnet.com/stories/en/286693

France has ordered the closure of a mosque in the north of the country because of the radical nature of its imam's preaching, regional authorities told AFP on Tuesday.

The mosque in Beauvais, a town of 50,000 people some 100 kilometers (62 miles) north of Paris, will remain shut for six months, according to the prefecture of the Oise region where Beauvais is located.

It said the sermons there incite hatred, violence and "defend jihad".

I would like to know exactly what was said by the Imam but I’m not French. In the US? It would be allowed. But I don’t know French laws enough to comment.

That reminds me of French army second hand rifle sales. Never fired and only dropped once!

Apparently the Left in France already got all the migrants it wanted, and now they no longer have to remain soft and keep defending this stuff.

The French value freedom of religion, but obviously when it involves muslims and that population has reached a critical mass, something has to give.

(Possibly another example of freedoms being eroded away from importing problems from foreign parts of the world)

In Morocco for example they put cameras and recording devices into all the mosques to listen to what is being preached, for the government to make sure there will not be any problems.

This was all a big mistake. One day, someone brought the imam some white zinfandel. He took one gulp, spat it out and said "Get rid of the white zinfandel!!! They thought he said "get rid of the white infidel" and ran with it!!!

I think they value people who don't threaten to kill them.

No doubt you can find a context to make it okay, whatever it was.

The Left believes they can have it all, and any problems they create with one of their policies can be solved with another government solution.

So "let them the Muslims keep pouring in, we'll just crack down on the mosques that seem to get too radical".

I don't think there's even an obvious clear line that marks what represents "too radical". But the Left seems to like the idea of cracking down on "hate".
    (which is a feeling)

Probably "Islam will conquer the world, Muslims have an obligation to wage war on the infidels",
    Stuff like that.

Maybe even a few not so nice things about Jews, referring to wiping Israel off the map and returning that land to muslims.

It's not that difficult to guess what kind of stuff was being said that was seen as a problem.

No doubt you know plenty of videos and articles have already appeared in this forum in the past about this issue, so you have plenty of examples to see.
(If you do a search in this forum for "imam", "muslim preacher", "radical")

So long as it's not a clear or present danger to violent incitement? Yes. I think the court case that determined this was in 1948?

What are you talking about? I hate America's definition of freedom of speech and I want something like France's law on prior restraint. The only thing I would criticize is it's not clear what exactly was said, thus we have to worry that it's islamophobia and not actually because it breaks the law.

This has been going for some time.

French authorities have closed over 25 mosques following the adoption of a controversial separatism law that came into force in late August.

The law was designed for muslim problems, but I predict will not too far in the future start being used against other groups of people, and eventually turn France into a place with the same level of free speech rights as China.

There's definitely a problem that needs to be addressed, but is the government solution to that problem going to set a worse precedent for civil rights? The French government is passing a whole slew of new laws that seem comparable to the type of controlling laws that China has.

Do you support closing church’s for advocating the death of others? Or preaching it is justified?

I think we have to be very careful and cautious how these policies are implemented and how these laws are worded.

There could conceivably be situations where that should be protected within the bounds of free speech and respecting religion.
But of course there is also an obvious problem and something should be done.
