President Biden on Friday shrugged off the worst jobs report of his presidency as the U.S. economy added less than half the number of jobs expected in December amid a massive surge in COVID-19 cases.

Mr. Biden showed up about an hour late for his speech and emphasized the report’s lone bright spot, that unemployment dropped slightly to 3.9% in December from 4.2% in November, even though economists say that reflects fewer people seeking work.

“Today is a historic day for economic recovery,” Mr. Biden said, calling the drop the sharpest one-year drop in U.S. history. “I would argue that the Biden economic plan is working and America is getting back to work, back on its feet.”

But the Labor Department report showed the U.S. added just 199,000 jobs in December. That was the fewest jobs in any month of 2021 and the worst month of job creation since December 2020, when the country shed 306,000 jobs.

So less than half the expected jobs in December and Biden lazily strolls to the podium to say he's actually done a good thing and that it's a historic day.

Many service sector employees quit because of fears of covid...Biden failed to obtain testing supplies while hyping up a winter of death and that surely contributed.

    GDP growth Q4 2021 = 6.5% (+35% than Trump's best quarter in 4 years)

    Unemployment rate : 3.9% (-2.5% since January)

Biden has created 537,000 jobs per month since he's sworn in.

    That's 6.4 million jobs in 12 months.

Trump is beaten on all fronts.

Biden doesn't need to shrug off anything. How many people pay attention to the actual news any more?

“U.S. financial markets are outperforming the world by the biggest margin in the 21st century, and with good reason: America’s economy improved more in Joe Biden's first 12 months than any president during the past 50 years notwithstanding the contrary media narrative contributing to dour public opinion.”

This has nothing to do with public opinion.

Was this the worst jobs report of his presidency or not?

You got to read the op bro...

"Mr. Biden showed up about an hour late for his speech and emphasized the report’s lone bright spot, that unemployment dropped slightly to 3.9% in December from 4.2% in November, even though economists say that reflects fewer people seeking work."

so Trump lost 306,000 jobs in December 2020, Biden added 199,000 Jobs in December 2021? and that was Biden's worst month of 2021....

sounds like Trump sucked as a President

    Why deflect to Trump?

The thread topic is clearly Bidens jobs reports.

Let me reply with an analogy…

Here are Usain Bolt’s top 5 times for the 100m:

    2009 - 9.58
    2012 - 9.63
    2008 - 9.69
    2008 - 9.72

Now, few people would disagree with the claim that this man is the greatest sprinter of all time and that his was a stellar career.

But look at that last time on the list. Do we regard it as a failure, comparing it to his other performances? Of course we don’t…..because we look at the totality of Bolt’s performance, in assessing his overall success…!

Democrats in CA and NY shut down businesses and the left blames Trump for the job losses. Typical.

I suspect 40% of this could be inflation. It has resulted in wages being (the equivalent of) less than they used to, in turn leading many workers to be less motivated and drop out. Businesses can't raise wages to match inflation, because first they have not really has enough time to adjust yet, and second the customer demand is not really there to be able to do that. Business is already slower than it used to be and many consumers are put off by the rising prices, or are price-sensitive since they're feeling financial constraints.

The inflation also creates uncertainty and making people reluctant to make deals when they don't know what future rates will be.

Have we blamed Trump in this thread yet? Or maybe January Pearl Harbor Day?
