Actually from all accounts that I read, Russia controls the skies in Ukraine.

Air superiority seems to be a big part of why they haven't been taken over yet, so might as well double down on that.

Well in 5 days they haven't taken over all of Ukraine so as to avoid civilians casualties. Unfortunately though, the civilians now are being used as human shields in Kharkov - which is a major concern.

But look, if you and others want to believe otherwise that is your right. Who am I to deny you that.

They've got a few they want to get rid of. I don't think there'll be a market for soviet military hardware after this for a while, especially their APC and tanks which seems to break down after a few kilometers.

Thank you for giving me some insight into Putin's propaganda so that I understand that he's contemplating how far he can get away with just resorting to mass murder.

No, the poor people of Ukraine need to look out. Putler has decided that they're all fair game in his war of terror.

@Jeanette, you expect anyone to believe the Russians give a damn about Ukrainian civilian casualties? That is ridiculous It is obvious that Putin doesn't give a damn about his own soldiers.

Ukrainian ministry of defense just reported lighting on fire a very large column with Russian armored vehicles using 2 SU-25 fighters. :smoking:
They used 2 ground assault planes - must have done a lot of damage. Can’t wait for pics!

EU countries won’t send Ukraine fighter jets after all
Ukrainian authorities claimed on Monday that they would be receiving planes from several EU partners.[IMG]
Several EU countries have denied claims of sending fighter jets to Ukraine | Nikolay Doychinov/AFP via Getty Images

Poland won’t send fighter jets to Ukraine, the country said Tuesday — the latest in a series of similar denials from EU countries that have highlighted early confusion about what the bloc’s new military support for Kyiv will actually encompass.

In addition to Poland, the Bulgarian and Slovakian governments have also recently ruled out the delivery of military aircraft to Ukraine. Yet at the same time, a Ukrainian official was claiming as recently as Monday that Ukrainian pilots had left the country to pick up planes donated by EU countries.

    Poland: no jets for Ukraine

Rest of EU: what he said ^^^

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, February 28, 2022

    ...

Russian forces increasingly targeted Ukrainian airfields and logistics centers on February 28, particularly in western Ukraine. Russia likely seeks to ground the Ukrainian air force and interdict the ability of Western states to resupply the Ukrainian military. The Ukrainian General staff reported that Russian airstrikes increasingly concentrated on military and civilian airfields and air-defense assets on February 28.[1] Russian forces conducted thirty missile strikes and four airstrikes from 11:00 am local time February 27 to 11:00 am February 28.[2] US intelligence officials reported that Russia has fired 380 missiles, predominantly short-range ballistic missiles, since February 24.[3] The Ukrainian General Staff reported Russian air assets are increasingly targeting Ukraine from Belarusian airspace, though no Belarusian assets have launched operations as of now.[4] The Russian Ministry of Defense falsely claimed to have secured air supremacy over Ukraine on February 28.[5] Russian forces have still not secured air superiority five days into the invasion but likely seek to do so in coming days through increased strikes on Ukrainian air assets.[6] Western military aid to the Ukrainian air force, including EU plans announced on February 27 to send fighter jets to Ukraine, will be crucial in preventing Russian forces from achieving air superiority.[7] Russian forces likely seek to interdict US and European aid shipments through western Ukraine.

EU could do a few legal maneuvers to hand off these planes and avoid making it look on paper like the jets came from any of these 3 countries.
It makes perfect sense why they don’t want to look like they gave these jets to Ukraine. They might even sell them for like $10 a pop, just to avoid looking like providers of the weapons. Or, they could sell to the US and the U.S. then reselling to Ukraine for some symbolic amount. Don’t forget, those are NATO countries that rely on NATO compatible equipment for defense, which makes it hard to believe that they actually need these fighter jets. ;)

It's going to be tough. Russia is trying to shut down Ukraine's airforce entirely, going after more airfields and so on.

It's not good when they can fire guided missiles from Russia, Belarus and the Black Sea at their leisure in addition to operating attack aircraft over at least some of Ukraine's territory.

I actually think instead of these aircraft, Ukraine should be getting good SAM systems, not just Stingers that can fly up to 5km.

At the least, yes. If they could just protect their own airspace, they could then launch strikes against Russia's launchers in Russia and elsewhere. That should give them a proper fighting chance.

If the citizens want Putin so much, why are they leaving the country?

Because it's a war zone. Russia has opened a highway for the people to leave Kiev and told them to keep away from the administrative buildings of the regime. They also opened two corridors in Mariopol for people to leave, something they always did in Syria before freeing a city from the terrorists.

The problem in Mariopol is the neo Nazi Azov battalion, and even though the Russians have made a peace deal with the Mayor to let the people leave, he still gets his orders from Kiev. They don't know if Azov will conduct a mass execution of the people since they lean towards Russia. This way they can kill them, and put the blame on the Russian army.
