North Stream 2 is blocked...for now. I don't expect that to last. Six months tops.

As for Bitcoin...whut? The Russian economy is not going to switch to Bitcoin.

Because contract is contract and in the past was no reason to cancel the contract, particularly not when the worst POTUS ever demand this.
And find out how easy it is to use Bitcoin and other crypto currencies ... very eeeeeeeasy! ;-)

So Germany is going to pay Russia in bitcoin for oil and gas? I still think they will use Euros.

No idea how they will do ... but how does the US pay the Russian oil deliveries please?
Or didn't you know that 10% of your oil is imported from Russia?

China would love to see Russia exhaust the USA so it could take over the Pacific Rim with impunity.

Oh I do know that! I'm quite aware of the hypocrisy of my own government's sanctions. You however are either unaware of the hypocrisy of your government or are trying to find a way to defend it.

    No ... I don't Lil Mike.
I was particularly opposed to Trump's outrageous demands for North Stream 2, also because this hypocritical bastard himself multiplied oil imports from Russia and so from his "buddy" Putin ... and had the audacity to want to dictate something to us!
With Putin's attack, that's different now and North Stream 2 is shut down and North Stream 2 AG has now also filed for bankruptcy.
North Stream 1...which has existed for decades...is still going and that's OK. Has the US stopped importing oil from Russia? No, so why should we do it then?
But the fact is that we are in the process of getting rid of it completely. Partly with an almost finished pipeline to Norway and partly by reducing the gas demand itself ... shutting down the gas power plants and continuation of the coal-fired power plants and faster expansion of alternative energy sources - fu** the climate goals for the first n such a situation!

I've already acknowledged my own government's hypocrisy in continuing to import Russian oil. So if your explanation for why Germany is continuing to do it is...us, that only tells me that you're just as hypocritical.

They don't need bitcoin, or oil money for now. They have been hoarding gold for the past 4 years and hiked their reserves by 41% since 2018. That's their "war chest". They knew sanctions were coming as soon as they attacked, and this has been on the works for a long time.

"That would be enough to pay for all imports for a year without Russia having to export anything," according to the German Commerzbank's chief economist Jörg Krämer.

China asked Putin to delay an invasion until after the Olympics and Putin complied. China knew he would invade and dictated the timing.

Asking another enemy country to solve a problem for the U.S. about Russia is a sign of weakness. It is a very, very bad idea. People should be fired.

Apparently you didn't have anything useful to say in response so you devolved into insult. Ignored.

There is nothing better than getting your enemies to counter each other, so its always worth a try, especially when it doesn't cost you anything. Its an ancient tactic and European kingdoms did it at every opportunity back in the day. Why do you think its a bad idea?

It costs a lot. It shows weakness to your enemies.

If people weren't fired after the Afghanistan debacle they sure won't be fired for this. But it is a weird take, " let's go to Russia's ally and get them to stop Russia."

Who said China was Russia's ally. They both revendicate territories in northern Asia and have been on opposite side of conflicts many time. They're pretty much being like the US was in the early part of WW1.

So you don't believe that those two countries are allies?

Well that's very interesting. Thank you for a unique thought.

They never really were. At best they were co-belligerants. China is in it for the money and Russia is a minor market to them with an economy smaller than Italy. They're neutral on this conflict. China is also dependant on the west for its economy which it doesn't want to risk by going pro-Russia.

Yep. They're allies the same way Germany, Italy and Japan were in WWII, and the way Germany was with the USSR early on in the war. Russia could very easily find a Chinese knife in their back.
