    Yeah, they're allies.

How China Embraces Russian Propaganda and Its Version of the War

When Russia invaded Ukraine, the Kremlin’s media machines worked well in China. Combined with Beijing’s censorship of pro-Ukraine content, they wove a web of disinformation that proved difficult for most Chinese online users to escape.

The message they are trying to drive home: Russia’s military actions are anti-West, anti-NATO expansion and anti-Nazi — thus justified and popular.

In China’s state media, there is very little about the international condemnation of Russia; Ukraine’s success in the battle for public opinion, led by Zelenskyy; or anti-war protests in Russia.

actually there is quite a bit in china news/website mention about EU/US sanction of russia. most indian/chinese are pro-russia mainly because they consider russia a partner, not really ally. India/china and few others are the only nation abstain in UN vote against russia.

It's not just your Administration .. I'm daily encountering folk who think China will side with the West. It's ****ing insane, how clueless people are.

This is all very wrong. China gains far more as an Eastern block with Russia, against the failing Euro-states. If you think they 'miscalculated' anything, you may have ingested too much Western propaganda.

That's exactly the terms they think in. That well-fed First Worlder lens is the only one they have. It makes everyone look like they spend their lives thinking about feelings.

It's bizarre to me, but hey, you can see that attitude in this thread.

They're in it together - timing it for the West's weakest hour. They've been watching and waiting.

That was true only as long as the West stayed strong.

Perhaps all part of the denial? The need to believe this is a singular aberration, which can't possibly continue because the three Big Daddies (China, the US, and the EU) will team up and stop it. Oil will go back to $65 a barrel overnight, and there'll be nothing further to worry about while watching Netflix.

I do think there is a lot of denial, but I think it's part of a lot of people in the West's desire for a clear bad guy vs good guy military conflict. And by a lot of people, I mean the left. There is a strong desire for a Hitler II that the war on terror could not provide because the "bad guys" were oppressed people of color opposed to former colonial powers.

    Problematic.

But white Putin, in charge of a "fascist" regime conducting an aggressive war in Europe couldn't have made a more perfect cartoon villain. The fact that China, a country that is a much larger long term threat to the west than Putin will ever be, is allied with Russia is inconvenient and must be blanked out from the zeitgeist.

They have good relations, but no formal alliance, but it doesn't matter if they are allies or not. If the situation hurts China, then why would they NOT want to stop a war? US would very likely try to talk an ally out of going to war which would damage the ally, the US and the global economy as whole.

Its not about 'siding with West'. Often times nations simply do what's best for them, and this war not not good for anyone. I would not have been surprised if they had tried to prevent the war, and its possible that they did, but Putin ignored it.

People of color? Now you're just making stuff up, which is nothing new.

Well...China didn't stop the war did they?

I think it's obvious (to me) why China would support Russia on this. They have their own little invasion planned for some point in the future, and want Russian support for that.

Hmm I wonder what kind of neighborhood you live in.

No, but I would be surprised if they tried.

How are they supporting it? Do they have boots on the ground?

I live in South East Florida, and I never heard anyone try to justify Al Qaeda or ISIS actions by calling them "oppressed people of color", which is why I know you are just making stuff up as usual.

    There is no "adventurism."

Russia -- not Putin -- seeks neutral buffer-States separating NATO from Russia, so it wouldn't matter if Putin was dead or alive or time-traveling or the Ghost of Christmas Past, because this would be happening no matter who was calling the shots.

Everyone -- apparently except Americans -- knows the US is after the eastern Russian republics, and even if Americans knew, they'd be all for it because killing people and taking their stuff so they can live large is something Americans have been doing for 124 years now.

It's in China's best interest to side with Russia. The insanity is the Hiden Administration thinking they can con China into helping them gain control of the eastern Russian republics.

Oh so THAT's what support means. So the US doesn't support Ukraine in this conflict based on your definition.

I live in Central Florida. How that's relevant is that in the local and national media the Pulse attack is almost never described as a terrorist attack and almost always described as an anti-gay/anti-hispanic hate crime. Yearly commemorations of the event revolve around "stopping hate" rather than the obvious stopping terrorism.

    Nailed it.

They couldn't have dreamed up a more perfect villain. Blue eyed, blond(ish), manly, 'homophobic', horse riding shirtless guy who likes the countryside and guns.

And as you say, Chiner (a much greater threat to the West) is regarded almost as a sort of counterpoint. Only people as clueless as cushioned fops in lilywhite bubbles, could possibly think that the imposition of a dominant culture is best coming from those who'll expect us to fart in conformity. I'd take a Russian boss any day of the week - and I say that as someone who's pretty comfortable with Asian culture.

    1) By doing nothing.

    2) Al Qaeda? Dude, it's 2022. That stuff would never wash today.

While I know you're kinda working at odds with Mike here, you've both nailed it. Though it's about more than just a buffer zone .. it's also about crucial agricultural resources.

You are wrong on one point. I haven't met a single American that wants to be involved in any war. They all want nothing to do with Afghanistan, Iraq and Ukraine. The vast majority are against any war or sending our people anywhere to fight any battles. It is our government who has their motives just like Russia has theirs.

So, quit calling Americans blood thirsty savages like some media influence dunce. It is like you have been listening to too many Russian newscasts.

    Wait til they're hungry.

This "I hate all war" thing comes from full bellies and big tvs. Take those away, and see how long that pacificism lasts.

I wish I had thought to integrate "cushioned fops" into my posts.

    It's fairly descriptive!

Yep and it's very much my point. The actual terrorists don't make fun villain's for certain types. It's just part of our culture. The movie The Sum of All Fears changed the Muslim terrorists from the book into South African Nazi's because obviously that's where the real terrorist threat comes from.
