I understand. One of the many reasons I left CA was the Draconian gun laws. When I arrived in Texas the first thing I did was by a Taurus Judge... just because I couldn't in CA. CA's ridiculous gun laws forced me to buy an M1A rather than an AR. Now I have a AR too. As of 1 September 2021, any legal gun owner can carry open or concealed just about anywhere without any permits or registrations. We can also buy silencers that are wholly produced in Texas without any federal regulation. TEXAS! WHERE FREEDOM LIVES!

Unfortunately, that's not quite the case.

Exactly correct. The ATF will try to enforce laws all by themselves with no local help. That means that there will essentially by no enforcement at all. It is a mirror image of states like California which declared themselves "sanctuary states" and ignore federal immigration laws. The federal laws remain in effect but without local law enforcement cooperation or support, there is essentially no immigration enforcement. It was the blue state practice of declaring "sanctuary" status for immigration laws that was the inspiration for the Texas laws that mirror the same principles only for federal firearms regulations rather than immigration laws.
Its true that a firearms dealer could be threatened with losing their FFL if the ATF finds out they are selling "Texas only" silencers. As a result, many small sporting goods and non-FFL hunting shops are now planning to sell silencers under the new Texas law. They have no FFL to lose.

They don't have anything to lose, but you do. The biggest issue is Form 1 and the tax stamp, $200. Will Texas come to your defense if you have a "unregistered" suppressor? The ATF can still prosecute a Texas resident under federal law, even though county and state won't. The Texas AG has sued the ATF to stop that. https://thetexan.news/texas-attorney-general-sues-atf-to-validate-new-suppressor-law/

This is just an example (not in TX), https://www.atf.gov/news/pr/harford...arge-illegal-possession-unregistered-silencer

10 years in Federal prison isn't worth it, until the Texas law is blessed. It's a stupid NFS law anyway, for suppressors at least, and SBRs too.

Neither suppressors nor SBRs were actually discussed in Congress prior to the NFA 1934 vote.

Federal immigration officials have been unable to enforce immigration laws in "sanctuary states". I expect the same in Texas regarding suppressors. Maybe less enforcement than even that. There are fewer ATF feds than immigration feds. Ill just pay cash and there will be no record. I've been paying cash for gun stuff for awhile now.

FY2020, BATFE had fewer than 2700 special agents.
That's nowhere near enough to enforce mass non-compliance.

Of course, it was just a way to collect taxes for machine guns. $200 was a lot in 1934. Now, NFA is just a tool for anti-gun fools.

From what I've read, the ammunition ( 5.7x28) is both expensive and difficult to find.

Otherwise, it looks like a fun gun even if it's hard to conceal.

    Enjoy!

5.7 is NATO standard now... easy to find. I've already bought 1,000 rounds.... about $600. and its ease of concealment is one of the reasons the Secret Service has adopted it. Single point sling under a coat and its gone.

Do you remember when 5.7 mm became a NATO standard round because I thought that they were still 9mm, 5.56mm and .308?
I assume that the 5.7 mm is intended to replace the 9mm X 19 since it lacks the terminal ballistics of the 5.56 X 45mm

When I buy a firearm, I try to find something in a common caliber for those times when ammunition is not readily available.

Anyway, the Key-Tec 50 looks like it would be fun to shoot and not have too much recoil for a beginner.

    Enjoy yourself.

5.7 is not meant to replace anything. 9mm, 308 (7.62x51) and 5.56 remain NATO standard. 5.7 is simply added... https://www.guns.com/news/2021/03/02/meet-57-nato-fns-pdw-round-gets-standardized

9mm is a pistol round. 5.53 is a rifle round. They have little to do with each other. Apples and oranges.

I totally agree with you that planning for when ammo might get scarce is important. All my pistols are either 40S&W (a favorite law enforcement round actually developed by the FBI), 9mm and yes... out of tradition I have an M1911 (45 cal)... its a commemorative edition for my West Point Class of 1975.

I prefer 308 in rifles due to the greater range than the 5.53. But I recently broke down and bought an AR-15 just in case 5.53 was all that is available some day.

    Thanks for the information.

    By the way, I'm pretty sure that the M-16, AR-15, M-4 etc fire a 5.56X45mm round, not a 5.53.

Some nit picking gun nerd may make a big deal out of the difference but not me.

I don't think Biden himself personally feels that strongly on this issue. He is just appealing to his political support base, but could also be influenced (with his advanced old age and mental susceptibility) by the advisers he keeps around him.

I doubt this would hold up to a SCOTUS review in this day and age. I seriously doubt it.

But hey, if you're worried, buy a legally unregistered rifle and "lose it in a boating accident".

I'd note also that the GOP are no angels on this. It was Reagan who signed the FOPA in the late 80s, probably the worst piece of firearms legislation ever passed bar the NFA.

Keep your representatives accountable, don't vote on party lines. If both sides are banners in your area then vote them out in primaries.

You're holding all the hope for the rest of us not lucky enough to live in free countries.

Joe tells another lie, saying that gun manufacturers are the only industry that cannot be sued.

Try suing the manufacturer of a vaccine that caused harm

It doesn’t change the fact that Trump opened the door to redefining definitions without congressional approval. He done it for bumpstocks and the courts backed it. That door is now wide open and Biden stepped through it with ghost guns. If you think that will be the end of the mess made by Trump it most definitely won’t. When Trump done that I said more than once just wait for a democrat to change the wording of a machine gun to include any gun that automatically loads the next round into the chamber. That would effectively make any semi auto gun post 1986 illegal the same way bumpstocks were.

The precedent set by Trump is literally one of the worst gun moves in history. Many argue but time will prove me right.

Trump was bad-the Democrats are worse. politicians who try to ban semi autos won't be reelected in most states. Heller also prevents that

The heller case states that individuals have the rights to arms however it doesn’t say there can’t be legislation against types of arms.

I believe the constitution states this but the judges never implied that.

“The Court has held that “the Second Amendment extends, prima facie, to all instruments that constitute bearable arms, even those that were not in existence at the time of the founding,” District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U. S. 570, 582 (2008 ), and that this “ Second Amendment right is fully applicable to the States,” McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U. S. 742, 750 (2010). "
    Caetano v Massachusetts, 2016.

Given that SCOTUS has affirmed that the Second Amendment protects all "bearable arms" (Caetano v Massachusetts) "in common use for lawful purposes" (DC v Heller) or having a "reasonable relationship to the preservation and efficiency of a well regulated militia" (US v Miller) , and incorporates those protections against the states (Chicago v McDonald), what types of firearms fall outside this protection?
