This is only hearsay, but I overheard part of an interview from, I'm pretty sure it was Mariupol, with a woman who said they had been informed of a plan, by Russians, to fire upon the human corridor, when it is opened. There's a good chance, I suppose, it's just paranoia, from seeing the schools of their young children, struck with artillery shells; but if I were one who was shipping out, I would be mighty anxious about getting on that first caravan of buses.

Since this war is being fought, also, on a financial front, your post seemed an appropriate enough excuse to relate the news that VISA and MASTERCARD have announced they will stop processing all payments in Russia.

The system, yes, but then, why has it only developed oligarch which make their money in mineral and energy riches, since the fall of the wall.
Were are the Gates, Zuckies, Musk, Sahin and so on. Never have we lived in a time were the world from Asia, to the US and Europe explodes with new ideas, it is just bubbling over with them. So fricking vital that a older person like me can not keep up with it.
We thought that we were in overdrive in the 80s, 90s and early 2000. We are in hyperdrive right now.
Russia, stuck, nothing coming from there, minerals, energy, nothing else.
Why was China able to become a innovating country, which competes with the rest of the world and gives the West a running for its money.
    Its a dictatorship.

Hard to know........ but there seems to be a lack of incentive........or misplaced incentive. China seems more competitive by its nature..........than Russia.

    Good! :smoking:

    Edit:
If no one in Russia anticipated this then their economy will grind to a halt very soon.

Private companies decided that they can’t watch this atrocity anymore and are killing Russian economy on their own accord.

No...I am quite serious. Now... rather than post something so vague that no one knows what you are talkig about... would you care to post something couched in complete thoughts or ideas?

Trump supported NATO. He tried to strengthen it by getting member nations to live up to their commitments. Why do you say anyone was waiting for him to pull out? Can you name ant specific action he took that would indicate this in any way?

We'll have to wait and see what happens. What Russia plans to do next and how Ukraine deals with it.

I think we're way past "plans". I'm sure Putin's original "plans" are all gone. We're into "flying by the seat of his pants" territory now.

SCWARTZKOPF said it best. He described war as being like a Broadway play. You write the script... you rehearse... get the costumes together and rehearse some more and rehearse some more. On opening night, the curtain goes up and everyone knows exactly what to do. Its all ready to go. But suddenly, some guy with a bayonet jumps up from the orchestra pit with a bayonet and starts killing people. Schwartzkopf described war that way.

In my own experience, I Commanded an Artillery Battery in Germany. We practiced and rehearsed what we would do if a war started. A new Brigade Commander came in and asked me for my OPORD (Operations Order). I handed him my typewritten plan in a plastic document protector. He went ballistic.. He told me that such plans don't last before the first contact with the enemy... it all goes to hell with the first round being fired. He said he wanted to see the plan written with a grease pencil... on a piece of a ration box... my windshield... anything where it could be easily changed at a moment's notice. Not typewritten and in a document protector.

Putin should stop killling civilians and bombing civilian areas, then people wouldn't have to flee from their home country.
The way the Kremlin is constantly trying to make itself look like the victim is nothing but typical dictatorship propaganda.

I've heard that US and Poland are discussing the possibility to supply fighters [I would add fighter bombers] to Ukraine.
Ukrainian pilots are good, but they miss planes now.

Poland can give to Ukraine good fighters, depending on the will of the Polish government.
Because [as it's easy to understand] Polish authorities are inclined to keep their best units, giving to Ukraine old Mig29.
They have worked on them and now they are better than original Mig29, but they remain Mig29.

F16 could be useful [overall to attack Russian ground forces and facilities], but Poland wants to keep them [waiting for the F35s which are coming in 2024].

To transfer F16 from Poland to Ukraine there would be also problems connected with US restrictions about transferring their planes overseas [the avionics on American fighters is considered a sensitive matter, to keep within friends; to send modern F16 fighters to Ukraine could mean to see them falling into the hands of enemies].

In any case this could be a very useful move: Ukrainian forces need air support and Ukraine has to be able to limit the air superiority of the Russians over its territory.

Now, there is the matter of the numbers: how many fighters can surrounding countries send to Ukraine?
I'm not aware of discussions about this at Rome, but Italy, France, UK, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, have got more planes and the quality is better than the one of the Mig29. Just to say NATO countries with operative F35 could send part of their "second wave" [sure F16, but to avoid restrictions about American avionics, why not Tornado ECR, maybe Eurofighters, Mirage2000 [France hasn't got F35, so I doubt they would be ready to send Rafale to Ukraine].

But I repeat that there are no discussions about this: in this moment, as for I know, only Poland and US are considering this option for real.
